[Bug 324694] Re: X fails to start on Macbook 2,1
Just tried install of Jaunty Alpha 5 and then an install of Intepid, followed by upgrade to Jaunty on Macbook 2,1. This same problem (as described by Stooj above) still exists in both cases. The xorg.conf edit fixes it. -- X fails to start on Macbook 2,1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/324694 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 324694] Re: X fails to start on Macbook 2,1
Problem remains with Alpha 4. Installed a clean copy of Alpha 4, updated it fully and getting to the same point before a freeze (past the login screen and to the wallpaper and the round working cursor) -- X fails to start on Macbook 2,1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/324694 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 324694] Re: X fails to start on Macbook 2,1
I edited xorg.conf at changed the device section from: Section Device Identifier Configured Video Device EndSection To this: Section Device Identifier Configured Video Device Driver Intel Option NoAccel true EndSection Live CD now works when I do that too. It isn't quite as pretty, but it at least gets me to a desktop for now. This is with all updates as of today. Not sure how to get specific version numbers though. I'll upload these logs in the hope that they might help. [Bug 324694] Re: X fails to start on Macbook 2,1
Thanks for all your help so far. Have changed my sources.list to point to archive.ubuntu.com and have dist-upgraded. There are no new updates now. I am getting past the GDM login screen again but once I try to login it hangs at the wallpaper. Cursor is not an arrow this time, though. Cursor is the busy/working ball and the segments are frozen (not moving round like they normally do). Still unable to switch to a console session from that point. -- X fails to start on Macbook 2,1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/324694 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 324694] Re: X fails to start on Macbook 2,1
have you tried updating all the packages? There are a lot of updates. ** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: xorg = mesa Status: New = Incomplete -- X fails to start on Macbook 2,1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/324694 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 324694] Re: X fails to start on Macbook 2,1
After updating all the packages, I can't get as far as GDM any more. Just getting a green dotted line at the top of the screen. When I apt-get upgrade from the recovery console, I see there are a lot of packages held back, including an xorg-xserver-video-intel package. Presumably there's a hold on that for a reason though. -- X fails to start on Macbook 2,1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/324694 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 324694] Re: X fails to start on Macbook 2,1
you should use dist-upgrade, the normal upgrade can't figure out what to do. also check your mirror if it's up to date, or change it to archive.ubuntu.com. The problems you describe should have been fixed a while ago. -- X fails to start on Macbook 2,1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/324694 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
