There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test the current Ubuntu development version (10.04). Could you please let us know the type of machine this is (make and model). The machine actually did not suspend-to-ram but suspend-to-disk (hibernate), we can tell this as we record the suspend type on the way down. I would have expected the machine to be off after this and then to turn on normally. As long as you have the same kernel when you came back up it should have resumed from it.
