[Bug 35760] Re: Only 1 konsole session with transparency

2007-05-27 Thread Martin Böhm
I've played with the scim-qtimm source package a little. It seems the
Debian patch 10_qt-immodule_install_dir.dpatch triggers this error for
me. However, this patch is not the issue itself - it just sets the
INPUTMETHODSDIR=/usr/lib/qt3/plugins/inputmethods to the correct path.
It may be linking with those plugins what causes the problem. These
plugins are included in the libqt3-mt package.

Just my 2 cents; the issue might be something completely different.

Isn't there already a workaround, i.e., uninstalling scim-qtimm?

If you must use scim-qtimm and can't bear with this bug (I personally
don't see a non-transparent terminal very big deal), then the best
chance to get a fix is by analyzing the bug and figuring out where it
went wrong, then contact the corresponding upstream.

I doubt there is currently any Ubuntu developer working on this.

[Bug 35760] Re: Only 1 konsole session with transparency

2006-11-13 Thread kko
You may be right in that it is only reproducible with non-US keyboard
settings. It would still be nice to have it fixed, as it only affects
what - hard to tell if it's a majority or a minority of Kubuntu users?
I'd guess at a majority, but I may be wrong. ;-)

FWIW, my X-keyboard layout is the following:
$ grep XkbLayout /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Option  XkbLayout fi

If you want to reproduce this, doing a standard install on a spare
machine in an other (possibly any other) language than those you have
tested will probably work. It gets more complicated if you actually need
to have a non-US keyboard... (I'd guess you don't, though, as you can
probably just select the option and then wonder at why some keys produce
different output than what's printed on the physical keyboard.)

It can of course be tough if you don't know these languages - I very
much doubt if I could do an install in Chinese either. ;-) It might be
easier to navigate your way through the install with the alternate
install CD for all I know, but, well, all I can say is do what works for
you.

With a properly installed system, reproducing this should be easy.
Using the create tab icon in the bottom left corner of Konsole, as you
have used, should be enough to show the behaviour, and the same with
Yakuake.

People who are still interested in this bug may want to look at bug
#37711, as I suspect these two bugs are related, and only reproducible
with non-US X keyboard map settings. (And something more, as I've said
a few comments above, I tried changing my X keyboard map, but still
can't reproduce this bug.)

2 Kubuntu Dapper 6.06.1, alternative install CD. (For me, Breezy wasn't
affected, so I wonder at the comment where it says Breezy above.)

The reason that it didn't happen in breezy is that scim wasn't
introduced before dapper. And I think oracel means that he upgraded to
dapper from breezy which of course also would have installed scim.

[Bug 35760] Re: Only 1 konsole session with transparency

2006-10-08 Thread Pascal d'Hermilly
By new session I mean like a new tab in konsole.

Now I've installed the following packages on my dapper machine: scim-qtimm
scim-pinyin im-switch
skim was allready installed.
Then I logged out and in again.
I see there is a little icon in the right bottom corner with skim now.
Another difference is that now each instance of konsole can have their first
tab/session transparent. Before only one transparent instance was possible
system-wide.

So then I did the tests again.
$ echo $XMODIFIERS
@im=SCIM
$ echo $QT_IM_MODULE
scim
$ locale
LANG=da_DK.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=da_DK:da:en_GB:en
LC_CTYPE=da_DK.UTF-8
LC_NUMERIC=da_DK.UTF-8
LC_TIME=da_DK.UTF-8
LC_COLLATE=da_DK.UTF-8
LC_MONETARY=da_DK.UTF-8
LC_MESSAGES=da_DK.UTF-8
LC_PAPER=da_DK.UTF-8
LC_NAME=da_DK.UTF-8
LC_ADDRESS=da_DK.UTF-8
LC_TELEPHONE=da_DK.UTF-8
LC_MEASUREMENT=da_DK.UTF-8
LC_IDENTIFICATION=da_DK.UTF-8
LC_ALL=
$ im-switch -l
You have da_DK setup in /home/pascal/.xinput.d.
===
No alternatives defined for language da_DK
===
The following languages have been configured to use input methods:
ja_JP zh_CN

$ im-switch -s scim
Warning: dependency check won't work because libapt-pkg-perl isn't installed.
$ im-switch -s scim-pinyin
Warning: dependency check won't work because libapt-pkg-perl isn't installed.
$ sudo apt-get install libapt-pkg-perl

$ im-switch -s scim
$ im-switch -s scim-pinyin
From the package dependency information, following packages
may be useful to install:
  scim

But package scim is allready installedm, so I run im-switch -s scim
again and logout and login again.

Then every program in kde that required keyboard input chrashed on me. that is
alt+f2, konsole, yakuake and I didn't think I needed to test more programs.
So I logged out and went to tty2 where I uninstalled im-switch and scim-qtimm.
Now my programs work again. Except for firefox that for some crazy reason it
won't say simply refuses to start now. hurray for konq.

So now I tried to install Edgy Beta 1 from a live cd on my laptop..
The transparency work perfectly on the livecd. But it doesn't work on the
system that is installed!
Actually it's worse because now I can't get any transparency at all. It's fully
updated.

So my guess is that there is something wrong with the packages/settings
that are installed during install.

[Bug 35760] Re: Only 1 konsole session with transparency

2006-10-07 Thread Pascal d'Hermilly
** Summary changed:

- dapper f5: konsole transparency
+ Only 1 konsole session with transparency

** Description changed:

- kubuntu dapper f5
- I'm having big problems with konsole and yakuake transparency. I know yakuake
is not supported, but I believe the problem lies is konsole.
+ I'm having big problems with konsole and yakuake transparency. I know
+ yakuake is not supported, but problem seems to be in konsole.

- When choosing transparant, dark background in schema it doesn't change
- in konsole, even if you save as default.
+ The problem is that only 1 session(the first) has tranparency. If you
+ open more sessions they will not be able to be transparent.

- In yakuake it works in the first tab, but not in any other tabs.
+ Reproduce bug in konsole:
+ Settings - Schema - Transparent, Dark Background
+ Settings - Save as default
+ Now open another session. The new session is not transparent and it is not
possible to make it transparent.

- in konsole opening a tab doesn't do anything out of the ordinary except
- it doesnt give you transparancy either.
+ Present in: dapper, edgy
+
+ The workaround seems to be to uninstall scim-qtimm.

2006-10-07 Thread Pascal d'Hermilly
 as the result you provided above, scim-qtimm even not be used, so how
 can it interfere your konsole? :)

scim-qtimm is a QT-plugin and since KDE and therefore konsole is coded in QT it
interferes.
quote from http://www.scim-im.org/projects/scim_qtimm:
 The main goal is to extend and enhance the input method support in the Qt
library

Also, take a look at Bug #52999 which is a duplicate of this bug. This
is where they found out about this strange behaviour with scim.
