[Bug 390372] Re: default terminal does not have an effect

2009-06-23 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
comment from upstream:

It would be pretty easy for packagers to add one if they wanted to. We don't
want to do it by default, though. I'd expect each terminal already has a menu
entry, and this one would be redundant and just clutter it up. Plus, it
probably wouldn't stop at ther terminal, either, so you'd end up with a host of
Preferred app category items.

[Bug 390372] Re: default terminal does not have an effect

2009-06-21 Thread Joseph Smidt
Thank you for this bug report. I believe that the terminal accessed by
Application-accessories-terminal is hard coded to be the gnome-
terminal. I believe the problem is setting xterm as default in the
preferred applications doesn't change this fact. I believe therefore
the solution to your problem is you need
Application-accessories-terminal to be whatever your preferred
terminal is and not just be hard coded to always be the gnome-terminal.

[Bug 390372] Re: default terminal does not have an effect

2009-06-21 Thread Joseph Smidt
What's going on is that the menu item Application-accessories-terminal
has a desktop file that tells that menu entry what to do when it is
pressed. It is told to launch a gnome-terminal.

I believe if the desktop file for that menu entry gave a command for the
terminal in your preferred applications your problem would be solved.
Therefore I am switching this bug to gnome-terminal since I believe they
handle the desktop file for this menu entry.

[Bug 390372] Re: default terminal does not have an effect

2009-06-21 Thread Joseph Smidt
I have created a feature request with upstream, asking them to make it
so that when the gnome terminal icon in the gnome menu is clicked then
the terminal from your preferred applications is used.
