Scanned documents are stored this way. If I am right, then the problem is "bad anti-aliasing of graphics in evince" and then this bug is a duplicate of bug #248355. So I mark it as duplicate. In my opinion, this bug should be raised (at least) to a "Medium" priority. As I pointed out in another bug report (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/poppler/+bug/92296), this rendering problem is very frequent. At least within the little community of mathematicians, whose main interest in computers is to open pdf's and send e-mails, I believe that it represents a very serious drawback when experiencing the Ubuntu distribution.
