[Bug 44116] Re: reportbug uses debian smtp server which fails to relay
The problem is that the SMTP at bugs.debian.org will not allow relaying to [EMAIL PROTECTED], which Ubuntu's reportbug uses. If you have smtphost bugs.debian.org in your reportbugrc, you get hit by this bug. However, the default in Ubuntu is fiordland.ubuntu.com and this triggers just another bug: bug 123414 As far as I can see, this particular bug is fixed, although only by another not working default (fiordland) and/or using the newer 'bugs.debian.org' in case 'master.debian.org' is configured (but it fails the same way, not allowing to relay to ubuntu- [EMAIL PROTECTED] The problem here is, that bts=ubuntu does not work with Debian's SMTP server. I'm closing this as Fix released, since it is (for bts=debian). I'm currently looking into disabling the use case bts=ubuntu in reportbug, while pointing the user at ubuntu-bug. It's probably something reportbug nicely creates for me when I first use it. And when I transferred my whole home dir from Etch to Hardy, this came to Ubuntu - and was wrong... It's not even Fix Released, it's Invalid! It is using a Ubuntu server, however that is still not good enough for sending to Debian, see #123414. This doesn't actually appear to be fixed by this change.
I just tried to report a bug using a new fresh, reportbugrc, and got
Connecting to bugs.debian.org via SMTP...
SMTP send failure: {'[EMAIL PROTECTED]': (550, 'relay not permitted')}
So bugs.debian.org is also no good for ubuntu. Surely it should be using
an ubuntu smtp server?
