This seems like a duplicate of Bug #651808 (and possibly Bug #351103).

See my comment in the other bug:

[Bug 44255] Re: Doesn't wait long enough before giving up

2010-05-28 Thread Robert J Lee
I have the same problem in 10.04 using gnome-swallow-applet rather than
i8kmon. Basically, applications take longer to load than 10 seconds when
you log in due to system load as the GUI is starting up.

A workaround is to right-click on the applet and select "reconfigure"
every time you log in, but that's hardly satisfactory. Debian-bugs have
an untested patch at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=400265#22, but in my opinion it would be better to
make the timeout a configurable parameter.

I see this has moved from Invalid to incomplete, is there any progress
happening?

[Bug 44255] Re: Doesn't wait long enough before giving up

2008-12-04 Thread xrayA4T
Hi,
I have exactly the same issue in 8.10. I also had it in 8.04. The problem comes
when you do many things on start-up and it takes too long for the i8kmon window
to appear so gnome-swallower does not find it. It then asks it you wish to
reload which then works fine but leaves the original application running. The
simplest solution is the one presented, increase the time out from 10 to say 30
seconds. Other solutions would be to make the timeout an option in the applet.
Finally it could continue to poll for the window while the Reload confirmation
window is being shown and if the application windows appears while the reload
dialog is shown then automatically close it. Alternatively, it the user presses
reload, first check it the window is there before rerunning the application.

2008-05-06 Thread Sebastian Rode
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.
