As I said, Nautilus will automatically fall back to C when the locale can't be found. But when the specified locale is found it will of course use that one. So you are using the C collation rules instead of the en_US.UTF-8 ones, and they are obviously different. Have a look at the attached XsessionErrors.txt. Nautilus (and others) reports "Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library." That file is called ~/.xsession-errors on your local machine. The locale en_US.iso88591 doesn't exist on your system which means that Nautilus and others will fall back to the C locale for LC_COLLATE. The command "locale -a" will show you all available locales on your system.
