[Bug 46692] Re: Wireless Card shows as an eth1

2007-02-16 Thread Timothy Smith
What interface name it uses doesn't matter. This card isn't going to
work out the box though as it's a BCM43XX, but this bug has nothing to
do with that.

[Bug 46692] Re: Wireless Card shows as an eth1

Well, it was worth a try. When I ran the latest Truemobile 1400 driver
update, I got a message saying that it wasn't compatable with my
hardware or something.

[Bug 46692] Re: Wireless Card shows as an eth1

2006-11-10 Thread GarlicSalt2
Hey, I'm borrowing a friend's notebook for a few weeks, which has a
Truemobile 1400 Mini-PCI card with a Broadcom BCM4318 Chipset. It runs
Windows XP, and I don't have the authority to install Ubuntu. I've
checked the info on the firmware stuff and fw-cutter, etc, but I don't
understand if this is a permenant Firmware update and is thus "One-time-
only" or if the firmware file is something that needs to be installed at
each reboot. I'm only running the Live CD (Dapper), and am just
wondering if I need to keep the firmware on a flash drive or something.
On the otherhand, if this is a one-time, permenant update, I am
concerned that it might "mess-up" the Windows driver. Hmm, I just
thought of something.

[Now looking for a Windows firmware update on Dell's Web site...]

I get my Broadcom 4318 as eth1, too. It's built in the laptop, not a
card I plug or USB dongle.

[Bug 46692] Re: Wireless Card shows as an eth1

2006-07-27 Thread sams
I have a different wireless card ( usb Billion BIPAC 3010G ) and get a
similar result, that is the card is shown as an eth* device rather than
wlan0

I found a temporary solution by accident:

if i have the usb device connected to the pc and boot up, it gets assign
an eth2 and will not work.

if i boot the pc up and once i logged into KDE, and then insert the usb
device, a wlan0 device shows and works as normal, and i can use it.
