[Bug 484900] Re: After upgrade to karmic, Xorg will boot with display blank, and no reaction to keypresses (e.g. Alt+Ctrl+1 shows no reaction)

2010-01-08 Thread Timo Aaltonen
The log suggested that you didn't have hal running. X in Lucid doesn't
use hal at all but udev instead, and these situations should not happen
anymore, since you can't live without udev.

** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Fix Released

Works now again after the latest upgrades (kernel? and/or X-server).

Same problem on my dell vostro using intel graphics card. This happened
after a recent xserver upgrade. Very disappointing

Some workaround is to change /etc/X11/xorg.conf to:
Driver vesa
# Driver intel
(of course, that's only possible by booting an old version using a USB stick!)
and to append nomodeset to the kernel boot line in grub. AFAICS, both of
them are required.

Unfortunately, this means of course, that you'll end up with a blurry screen
and no accelerated graphics

Cheers,
Reinhold
