[Bug 495205] Re: Cannot install 3
Please continue this conversation somewhere else. Bug reports generate enough email and no need to add anymore than needed. I will change this into a question on answers.launchpad.net so you can continue there ** Changed in: thunderbird (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = Incomplete -- Cannot install 3 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/495205 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 495205] Re: Cannot install 3
this is a question since we are unable to support upstreams packages unless they are included in the repos for your version of Ubuntu ** Changed in: thunderbird (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid ** Converted to question: https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+question/93794 -- Cannot install 3 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/495205 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you Dave! I just added a new source from the information you sent me and it works perfectly. Thank you again. Status in “thunderbird” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Binary package hint: Thunderbird I am so frustrated. First of all, I installed the newest version of Kbuntu for x86. Then I downloaded Thunderbird 3 and extracted it. But there are NO instructions anywhere that explain how to install it to new Linux users. First I find it frustrating. Then I find it arrogant that no explanations of how to do this are provided at the installation site. Then I find it really strange that Linux is advertised as ready for the average user, but it is nearly impossible to figure out how to do a simple installation of a new program that is not in one of their packages. Please address in detail how someone who is new to Linux can install Thunderbird 3. No geek speak please unless you first define the terms and how to invoke them. [Bug 495205] Re: Cannot install 3
I would like to apologize for any confusion you my have experienced. It is very uncommon for the average consumer of any linux distribution to actually download software and install it from a third party. Most quality distributions provide some tool so you can easily and quickly download and install software that has been tested and is known to be functional right out of the box. If you are using Kubuntu then here are the steps necessary to install Thunderbird. 1 - Click on the K at the bottom left hand corner of the screen. 2 - Type SOFTWARE into the search bar at the top and left click Software Management from the application list when it appears below it. 3 - Type Thunderbird into the search bar at the top and press RETURN or ENTER 4 - You will see mozilla-thunderbird appear in the list. Just click on the down arrow on the right hand side to select that package for download. 5 - Click OK. 6 - You will be prompted for the password you used to login to your system. The installation should complete without issue. The Ubuntu / Kubuntu software installation documentation can be found here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/InstallingSoftware I did notice you were interested in Thunderbird 3. This package will become available in the next version of Kubuntu scheduled for release in April of 2011. If you must have it sooner then there is an unsupported method for installing Thunderbird 3 available via something called a Personal Package Archive. The link is here: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mozilla-daily/+archive/ppa Installing from a PPA is available for more advanced users who are interested in cutting edge software and comfortable working around any bugs the software may contain. Does this help? If you have any additional questions then feel free to check out the various support options available: http://www.kubuntu.org/support ** Changed in: thunderbird (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- Cannot install 3 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/495205 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
