[Bug 532783] Re: Sound indicator icon has disappeared

2010-09-27 Thread frederik.nnaji
i think this bug appears wherever Maverick Beta testers did early customization
of packages in order to get the transitional solutions indicator complete etc
working, as they were still in heavy development.
Now, the workaround that helped me, was to sudo apt-get remove indicator-me*
and afterwards reinstall the ubuntu-desktop package with a sudo apt-get
install ubuntu-desktop.

my suggestion for a fix here is to remove all transitional indicator
applet solutions such as indicator applet complete with the next
update automagically, with a warning of course, that apt will remove
the following packages.

on the long run, we need a way to set the panel configuration back to
distribution default.
So much configurability, but no way to fall back to the default arrangement?
Add a reset panel item to the panel properties or the add to panel dialog..

Intend to work on this this week. The way the libindicator api works
inhibits the proper use of GtkIcon's. I think I have a work around
though. Expect a fix for Beta 1.

the issue there doesn't seem to be a sound indicator one, Robbie are you
sure you have an indicator applet on your gnome-panel? can you try to
add it again to make sure of run a guest session and see if it has the
issue?

Robbie, when you run gnome-volume-control-applet you get the old
notification area icon which we don't start in lucid, the description of
you issue simply suggest you removed the applet which contain all the
indicators

ah ha! no it wasn't...any reason why that would be removed? I don't
recall uninstalling it, but perhaps I enabled a PPA that did that?

Well this is not a hardware-specific issue.
Simply it is an icon-theme-specific issue.
For example icon-themes gnome and tangerine have no indicator sound icon.

[Bug 532783] Re: Sound indicator icon has disappeared

2010-03-05 Thread Robbie Williamson
Okay, so I looked *closely* at the gnome-volume-control-applet and that
is *NOT* the same as what should be showing in the indicator-applet
section. As previously mentioned, my Acer AMD64 and Dell Mini 9 are
showing the *correct* sound icon in the indicator applet section, and if
I run 'gnome-volume-control-applet', I get two similar, yet clearly
different sound speaker icons in my panel. So, I think this takes the
issue back to being hardware related, as I believe Steve Langasek has
this problem and he runs a Thinkpad as well.

[Bug 532783] Re: Sound indicator icon has disappeared

2010-03-05 Thread Steve Langasek
My issue came down to the fact that I had removed indicator-session from
my panel in a previous release because it wasn't doing anything relevant
to me, and I didn't realize this was the same thing as the current
indicator-session. So not hardware-specific, and not a bug that I can
see.
