Good, I'm glad we were able to resolve the issue! I am closing this report since we found the cause of your specific bug and were able to fix the problem. I have also opened bug 572099 which explains that the visual effects can be enabled without the compiz package installed. yes it says version current, and it is activated. On Fri, Apr 23, 2010 at 10:33 PM, Draycen DeCator wrote: > Well, I have very similar hardware, and I have not run into this issue > before. Re: [Bug 561146] Re: firefox takes over whole screen with no exit button in left hand corner
Yes I reset it to Normal but then it goes back to None after I reboot. On Normal it is OK. I am using the current Nvidia driver 195.36.15 and I have a GeForce 8400GS. When I set the Visual Effects to Normal it takes a minute and looks for appropriate drivers and then asks me to confirm the setting. Even though I confirm the setting it goes back when I reboot or logoff. [Bug 561146] Re: firefox takes over whole screen with no exit button in left hand corner
Since this does not appear to be a problem in Firefox, I'm removing Firefox from the report and will add a tag showing that this needs to be reassigned. At this point there is no need for you to remove your Nvidia driver, but could you please let us know what version of the Nvidia driver you are using? I am also using Lucid with an Nvidia graphics card, so I can try to reproduce your bug on my machine. Also, I have seen other reports that are similar to this, except the behavior occurs when Visual Effects are on. Can you please confirm that this problem is happening only when Visual Effects are off (set to None)? ** Package changed: firefox (Ubuntu) => ubuntu ** Tags added: needs-reassignment -- firefox takes over whole screen with no exit button in left hand corner https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/561146 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 561146] Re: firefox takes over whole screen with no exit button in left hand corner
Thanks for your suggestion. I am pretty convinced it is an interaction between the Gnome window manager and the Nvidia driver since it started after I installed the Nvidia driver and it requires me to change the Appearance menu from None to Normal to get rid of the behavior. It does still affect other windows like the download manager for example. But after restarting all I have to do to work around is change the appearance selection under Visual Effects. This really does need to be fixed for final release. Let me know if you want me to try uninstalling the Nvidia driver. [Bug 561146] Re: firefox takes over whole screen with no exit button in left hand corner
Since you said this affects other applications as well, I feel that this is likely an issue that goes beyond Firefox. Can you please try a few things and answer the following questions for me? Thanks! 1. Are all of the programs encountering this problem using the GNOME window decoration instead of their own? 2. Is this still occurring in other programs fairly consistently? I will try to see if I can find any other reports of this happening. For now, setting the top panel to Autohide (via right-clicking the panel and selecting Preferences) may allow you to access the buttons that are being covered up. -- firefox takes over whole screen with no exit button in left hand corner https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/561146 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 561146] Re: firefox takes over whole screen with no exit button in left hand corner
no it is just the standard Gnome. I noticed that it is partially fixed now. The window is now below the upper bar but still can't be moved around by the mouse unless I use the workaround to shift from None to Normal on Visual Effects under the Appearance tab. [Bug 561146] Re: firefox takes over whole screen with no exit button in left hand corner
Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Before we can begin working on this report, we need to know some more information. Could you please answer the following questions? 1. Are you maximizing Firefox by using F11 or by using the Maximize button? 2. Is Firefox the only application displaying this behavior? 3. What setting in the Appearance menu resolves the issue for you? 4. Could you attach a screenshot of the issue for us? If you can answer those questions, we'll have a much better understanding of the issue. ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- firefox takes over whole screen with no exit button in left hand corner https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/561146 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 561146] Re: firefox takes over whole screen with no exit button in left hand corner
seems to be a problem in the windowing system because it also affects the download window. it covers up the main menu and applications menu so you can't choose anything. ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => New -- firefox takes over whole screen with no exit button in left hand corner https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/561146 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
