[Bug 60940] Re: edgy live cd fails to boot on old machine

2006-11-10 Thread ThunderM
As wierd as it may sound it seems it seems this problem solved itself
somehow somwhere between Beta and Final . With that beeing said bug
squashed . The final release works like a charm on the machine with 196
MB of RAM despite the fact that it doesn't use the swap partition.

Note that Safe Graphics Mode would not work because of bug #59618.
And your swap file would not be used because of bug #62868.

That said, the issue, as you described it, doesn't seem to be related to video
driver problems, nor to your scarce amount of RAM (*): none of these would make
the LiveCD reboot so quickly.
It's more probable it's a kernel issue.

Try removing the splash and quiet parameters when booting your
LiveCD: maybe this way you'll see some error message.

[Bug 60940] Re: edgy live cd fails to boot on old machine

2006-09-20 Thread ThunderM
i don't belive that to be a reason not to boot at all. If i am not
mistaken the live cd also may use a swap partition if it finds one. And
that sistem has one of about 760 MB .And besides.. one of the other
systems i tried edgy live on had 128 MB and it worked ;) so... i don't
think that's the issue.

2006-09-17 Thread JoseStefan
Desktop CDs (Live CDs) suggest a minimum of 192 MB of RAM.
This may be the cause of the problem.

It is possible edgy makes more use of the expected 192 MB of RAM, when
compared to the dapper CDs.
