[Bug 695680] Re: [gm45] Choppy / jerky mouse with Intel GMA 4500M

2014-01-10 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Martin Lukeš, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

If reproducible, could you also please test the latest upstream kernel
available (not the daily folder) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream
kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this
bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc7

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

[Bug 695680] Re: [gm45] Choppy / jerky mouse with Intel GMA 4500M

2013-01-12 Thread Martin Lukeš
OK, problem solved!

Thanks to http://souriguha.wordpress.com/2011/03/08/how-to-solve-
problem-with-thinkpadkslowd-kworker-on-linux-kernel-2-35-2-36/ I found a
solution. Too bad it's after I converted to Arch Linux.

Here are two variants of the solution in short, based on affect:

Immediate (until restart):
sudo su -
echo N /sys/module/drm_kms_helper/parameters/poll
exit

Permanent (after restart):
sudo su -
echo options drm_kms_helper poll=N/etc/modprobe.d/local.conf
exit

Hope this helps others having the same problems on Acer Extensa 5235 and/or
Intel GMA 4500M graphic, no matter the kernel version and linux distribution.

2012-10-31 Thread Martin Lukeš
OK, I wouldn't want to jinx it but I've been using live version of 10.04.4 for
four hours now, did several suspend-to-ram and mouse was smooth all the time!
I also did not see any kworker processes running, which are present in newer
releases. I noticed them to spike CPU usage and change priority to realtime
when mouse is jerky. Now I see I did not write it here s.

Chris,

yes, I can replicate this issue with touchpad and every mouse.

First release I installed on that laptop was 10.10, now I use 11.04 and
tried 12.10 for testing. The problem was present in every named release.
Do I have to install that obsolete release?

My mouse is choppy sometimes. I think it's more often when I don't
utilize my graphic card much. Because while it happens I do something
that requires more graphic card work (e.g. some movement in cairo-dock)
and after a few seconds the movement is smooth again.

  Binary package hint: xorg

My mouse is choppy sometimes. I think it's more often when I don't
utilize my graphic card much. Because while it happens I do something
that requires more graphic card work (e.g. some movement in cairo-dock)
and after a few seconds the movement is smooth again.

[Bug 695680] Re: [gm45] Choppy / jerky mouse with Intel GMA 4500M

2012-10-20 Thread Martin Lukeš
Hi Christopher,

I tested the latest 12.10 as live CD. The apport-collect messages are
from it.

Sadly, the problem stays.

I assume to test different kernels I have to install 12.10, I couldn't do it
from LiveCD, am I right?
Also I don't understand from where exactly I get those kernels I ought to test.
Could you please send me more accurate description? Or exact links? It'll be my
first time...

Martin Lukeš, regarding your comments

Hi Christopher, I tested the latest 12.10 as live CD. The apport-collect
messages are from it. Sadly, the problem stays.

Thank you for testing 12.10.

I assume to test different kernels I have to install 12.10...

You are welcome to test different kernels in any installed and supported
release.

I couldn't do it from LiveCD, am I right?

Yes, unless you know how to respin LiveCDs? ;)

Also I don't understand from where exactly I get those kernels I ought
to test. Could you please send me more accurate description? Or exact
links? It'll be my first time...

As per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds#Mainline_Kernels_Archive :
Mainline Kernels Archive
The mainline kernels archive is located at the URL below, there is a directory
for each mainline build:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline;

[Bug 695680] Re: [gm45] Choppy / jerky mouse with Intel GMA 4500M

2012-10-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Martin Lukeš, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the kernel in the
daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested
and remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located
at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the text:
needs-upstream-testing

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why
specifically you were unable to test it and add the following tags:
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.

Actually I think it's a duplicate of a #662946. I will test Natty in a
few days and report back.
