Thank you for the hint with unity --replace. I think the the status of
this bug should be higher than "low" because it makes working in bash
very complicated as meta key, the most people are used to, doesn't work.
Its hard to get used to ESC instead ALT in bash...

2011-05-06 Thread xoddam
I have a similar issue, not with a dotfile but with command line calls
to xmodmap.

Running 'xmodmap -e "remove Lock = Caps_Lock"' should disable the caps
lock key.

Under Unity in Natty Narwhal, it does not.

Under Unity on the netbook edition of Maverick Meerkat, it worked.

@Marko

Thanks for the tip. Start a new "unity" from the shell fixes the problem
of Alt+Key!

I also found that if I disable the Unity in CCSM, then enable it will
fix the problem too.

Hope these information will help the developer to debug.

[Bug 729007] Re: Untiy break the Alt related shortcuts if alt/win key are swapped

2011-04-29 Thread Marko Mikulicic
I noticed that starting another instance of "unity" from the shell fixes
the problem of Alt+key in (emacs, gnome-terminal at least).

When I startd "unity" from the shell, I noticed a screen flicker and
then the desktop was restored in a good state.

I suppose that when unity (or the unity compiz plugin) starts the first
time it grabs at low level, what is the current "Super" key. Then the
gnome-preference-settings (I don't remember the exact name) swaps the
keys, but the new Alt key remains bound to unity.

2011-03-14 Thread Davim
same problem here:

I have a Macbook and use the following xmodmap conf to switch the left
ctrl key with the CMD key the win key funcion gets maped into the ctrl
key but when I press the cmd the it just takes the focus from the active
window everything works fine if I undo the swaping:

!
! xmodmap script to swap left control & command keys
!
remove control = Control_L
remove mod4 = Super_L Hyper_L
keysym Control_L = Super_L Hyper_L
keysym Super_L = Control_L
add control = Control_L
add mod4 = Super_L Hyper_L

! Swap two keys Macbook keyboard bug
keycode 49 = less greater less greater bar brokenbar
keycode 94 = grave asciitilde grave asciitilde notsign notsign

2011-03-09 Thread Tualatrix Chou
Yes. I have a fully updated Unity.

And I also have a clean installed Ubuntu 11.04 on the PC, I swapped the
left Alt and Win, then I wasn't be able to use "Alt+Num" to switch the
Terminal tab.

Please see the attachment, and you can try the swapped alt/win, it might
happen on your desktop too.

Thanks.

It's odd that it's working at all for you with unswapped keys, because I
think for most people this functionality is currently broken. Do you
have a fully updated Unity?

For Super+S/Super+M you can use F10 to jump to the panel, and then the
arrow keys to move between indicators. I know it's not the same, but
it's at least a work around while indicator keyboard shortcuts are
thought about.
