Why should I sponsor this version, when you are working on getting the
new upstream release packaged (bug #206862)? I would like to sponsor the
new upstream release instead.

The patch for this revision comes from two files in the new upstream
version (chips.h and chips.c) http://freshmeat.net/projects/xsensors/
and the author's patch for coretemp support,
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-motu/2008-September/004711.html

Did you apply the patch that adds coretemp support before building the
package? It's included in my i386 .deb in comment #14, or you can find
it at the bottom of Bug #206862. I am also using coretemp and the new

I built an i386 package for xsensors 0.60. Can you guys test it out? Be
sure to run sesnsors-detect first.

If xsensors still malfunctions, then I think we should remove it, else
we should upgrade it - see Bug #206862

Same thing for the 0.60 version under lucid following Nanley suggestion. I get
a tiny program window that, when resized, shows empty contents.
I ran sensors-detect before running the program as indicated.

IMHO, this is a non working program in the repositories. So, either
someone fixes and packages it again, or we remove it from the
repositories, the last being the better for now. We have sensors-applet
as an alternative.

I think he meant (or at least I do) that 'sensors' command displays
correct info, like:

$ sensors
acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1: +41.5°C (crit = +107.0°C)

coretemp-isa-
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 0: +35.0°C (high = +100.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)

coretemp-isa-0001
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 1: +36.0°C (high = +100.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)

while xsensors app doesn't work at all. It should be either fixed or
removed from repositories. I vote for the removal.

What do you mean when you say sensors command works perfectly ?

Are you referring to the sensors-detect command ? And if so, are you
rebooting computer subsequent to issuing the sensors-detect command
(that is after it has completed it's detection of sensors) and are you
answering YES to the last question, so that the xsensors command is
started when machine is started ?

Thanks.

I can not speak for any of the previous releases but for me the Xsensor

However, let me say that if you got to Jaunty via an upgrade from a
previous version of Ubuntu (as opposed to installing Jaunty from
scratch), then it is probably NOT going to work correctly.

Thanks.

I am seeing exactly the same behaviour in xsensors 0.46 (xsensors
0.46-1ubuntu1).
I have lm-sensors installed on the Edgy system, and successfully ran
sensors-detect, inserted the appropriate modules, and then ran sensors. Sensor
on the command line shows coherent and reasonable data.
Running XSensors behaves exactly this way.

When run from the command line - I do note that I see:
Sensor 'it8712' not supported by xsensors!

When I close it - the standard Segmentation fault (core dumped)
message is shown.
