[Bug 772513] Re: Unity crashes on non-mirrored displays
Sorry for the late reply, somehow I've missed the comments. @Omer: My issue isn't the login screen. Unity won't show up. When choosing Gnome as the default session everything works fine. @Martijn: No, the bug I'm seeing doesn't disappear on a fully updated system. I've opened a new bug report (https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/810283) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/772513 Title: Unity crashes on non-mirrored displays To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/772513/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 772513] Re: Unity crashes on non-mirrored displays
This bug disappears when the most recent updates are installed. It still happens when running a "clean" installation. ** Changed in: unity Status: Invalid => Fix Released ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/772513 Title: Unity crashes on non-mirrored displays To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/772513/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 772513] Re: Unity crashes on non-mirrored displays
Andi, are you sure you are facing the same issue? Your issue is at the login screen where as the reporter of this bug is mentioning the case when he connects external display. [Bug 772513] Re: Unity crashes on non-mirrored displays
I should mention that I enabled apport and that there are no crash reports in /var/crash. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/772513 Title: Unity crashes on non-mirrored displays To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/772513/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 772513] Re: Unity crashes on non-mirrored displays
What is needed to track down this (very annoying) bug? I'm seeing the same issues, but unfortunately this bug is really hard to reproduce. In my case I usually (but not always) can reproduce it like this - switch to integrated graphics in bios (intel) - boot - gdm autologin into unity --> everything works fine - shutdown - switch to ATI graphics card in bios (ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3650) - boot - gdm autologin into unity And then the only wallpaper is displayed, but no unity or anything else. Then repeatingly every 3 or 4 seconds the screen gets black and the wallpaper is displayed again. Switching to a console and running "service gdm restart" as root brings up unity without further issues then. Attached is the output of dmesg before restarting gdm. Please let me know if you need additional information. ** Attachment added: "dmesg output" https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/772513/+attachment/2183231/+files/gpu_lock.dmesg.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/772513 Title: Unity crashes on non-mirrored displays To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/772513/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 772513] Re: Unity crashes on non-mirrored displays
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: unity Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/772513 Title: Unity crashes on non-mirrored displays To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/772513/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 772513] Re: Unity crashes on non-mirrored displays
Ok, so it happened again. Luckily I had openssh-server installed, and I was able to see the error: it turns out that this isn't a problem with Unity, rather than with radeon. ** Attachment added: "radeon-log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/772513/+attachment/2095567/+files/radeon-log ** Description changed: I just installed Ubuntu 11.04, with the gorgeous Unity-interface (well done!).
