[Bug 79553] Re: i915 performance error

2008-08-27 Thread Connor Imes
almonds,
If you are running compiz fusion, you should disable that before attempting to
use more graphics intensive programs like Google Earth or 3D rendered
videogames.
 metacity -- replace
Then to turn on compiz again
 compiz --replace
Otherwise please make your note on the other bug report since this one is for
the i910 driver which is no longer in use I believe (uses intel driver
instead).

[Bug 79553] Re: i915 performance error

2008-08-26 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I am having problems with my graphics performance and was wondering if
it is the same problem as bug? I have an Intel Mobile 915GM/PM/GMS and
910GML Express. I am using Ubuntu 8.04.

Basically, everything looks ok but when I run Google Earth (etc.), it is
extremely choppy. Does anyone know how to fix this or could you at
least point me in the right direction?

Also, is this related to/the same as bug 247762? Thanks for your help.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

8.04 is about to release, so please try a livecd or upgrade to see if
it's fixed now :)

[Bug 79553] Re: i915 performance error

2007-11-21 Thread Thomas Krause
I'm now using Ubuntu 7.10.

The new default driver is intel experimental and not i810 anymore.

Unfortunally the problem still exists. A nice test is the pointblast
demo from mesa demos where you can switch point smooth on or off (I
maximize the window, otherwise the software-renderer is too fast).

Some good news in the end: there is an updated version from Breve (2.6)
which resolves the problems (only!) for this application.

Please try Ubuntu 7.10 if the driver now supports those functions.

but this problem hast to be somewhere there)
- I provided more info, so the needs info status is obsulete, at least two

[Bug 79553] Re: i915 performance error

2007-06-09 Thread Thomas Krause
Even if this bug-report is quite old, the problem still exists.

I (intel i945gm, ubuntu feisty) had problems with software-rendering
when trying to use breve (http://www.spiderland.org/breve) even when
other OpenGL-apps where hardware accelerated).

There is a forum-entry (started by someone else) where this is
documentated: http://www.spiderland.org/node/3261

The problem was the use of glEnable( GL_POINT_SMOOTH ) and glEnable(
GL_LINE_SMOOTH ) which lead to the use of the software renderer. After
deactivating these lines of code everything worked fine and fast.

The same application runs fast and hardware accelerated under Windows XP
so I don't know whether this *is* supported in hardware or wether the
windows-driver just ignores it.

It turned out that the programms in the mesademos package are quite a
good test for certain functionality of the opengl-driver. If it helps
you I could test all of these on my platform and tell what runs hardware
accelerated and what not. under the i810/i915dri driver.

Thanks for the bug report. Could you please link to that forum topic?

What laptop are you using? Also, what performance error are you
reporting? Do you think that the i915 doesn't perform well enough?
Please explain more clearly what your bug is.
