Could you put: deb http://www.grad.hr/~ivoks/ubuntu/gutenprint ./ in your /etc/apt/sources.list, run apt-get update ; apt-get upgrade I installed it as a new repo in Synaptic and upgraded 9 packages. When I tested to print it worked immediately. So at last my trouble to boot into another OS every time I need to print anything is over. (I guess there is some reason why those packages not are in the normal repo.) I don't know specifically about the z42, but I know that the drivers for the lexmark z52/z53 are broken in Dapper. That was fixed in Edgy 6.10: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gutenprint/+bug/6627 I would guess that possibly you have the same problem than in that bug report.
