Unity 3D, the icon in the top panel shows an empty wifi symbol, and my name indicator is missing. i dont have wifi on this desktop, and praise the Lord, the ethernet is still working. I am using Ubuntu 11.10 development branch with Unity This occurred after a reboot following the latest update: Oct 5, 2011 @ ~10:15 AM EDT. I did have to reboot twice. The first reboot left my touch pad / mouse and keyboard unresponsive and I had to use my power button to shut down and restart. It followed a crash of the Ubuntu One Indicator which said it could not be reported because it was not a Genuine Ubuntu package. This is the 2nd time no icons (e.g., time and date) shown on the top panel. I didn't do anything special when the error occurred, I think. This particular crash is harmless, although it's a symptom of something else going wrong. The code which invokes check_gl_texture_size fully expects it to crash sometimes, and handles it. Once apport is turned off the only way you'll notice this crash is a SIGSEGV message in dmesg. After a partial upgrade (I think about 120+ software updated), rebooting and login, this error occurred. After this upgrade, I also cannot see any icons (eg, time) at top-right corner, don't know if it's a new setting or bug. Gateway Atom netbook. Default Unity. Previously upgraded from 11.04. Unknown display driver (not 3rd party). Oneric updates by Update Manager. Previous daily updates have been uneventful. After required reboot, two attempts to log in hung with either an arrow or an X cursor on a black screen. Had to hold the power button down to power off; system froze. After two reboots I could log in, but the wallpaper shrank to fill only part of the screen. Then a closing application (Gjot?, just installed) started looking smeared like a fuzzy, duplicated image of itself.
