[Bug 879615] Re: kernel panic on shutdown

2012-04-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
paul oakley, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue?
Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images
are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a
Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically
gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your
results.

Thanks in advance.

Re: [Bug 879615] Re: kernel panic on shutdown

2012-04-01 Thread paul oakley
I have already updated the bug with the solution on 13/11/11, see below
:-

I may have identified the cause and have a workaround after
researching the network issues using the forums. Two modules have been
loading for the realtek wireless module and my system now seems to be
stable after blacklisting one of them :-

sudo echo blacklist rtl8192se /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

Regards Paul

[Bug 879615] Re: kernel panic on shutdown

2011-11-13 Thread paul oakley
I may have identified the cause and have a workaround after researching
the network issues using the forums. Two modules have been loading for
the realtek wireless module and my system now seems to be stable after
blacklisting one of them :-

sudo echo blacklist rtl8192se /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

this problem also affects 11.04 but without the kernel panic.

The following is a list of the info I gathered

paulo@illustrious:~$ lsmod | grep 819

[Bug 879615] Re: kernel panic on shutdown

2011-10-23 Thread paul oakley
I have tested with the following kernel and can confirm the bug is still
present (see image). I also use a mobile dongle for internet access and
that seems ok. It seems to happen after I've used the wifi networking
possibly after I shutdown to resolve a connection issue.

linux-image-3.1.0-030100rc10-generic_3.1.0-030100rc10.201110200610_i386

I am now going to test tomorrow with the following kernel

linux-image-3.0.7-030007-generic_3.0.7-030007.201110180921_i386

[Bug 879615] Re: kernel panic on shutdown

2011-10-21 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? It
will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . If possible, please test
the latest release candidate kernel (Not a kernel in the daily
directory). Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the
'needs-upstream-testing' tag(Only that one tag, please leave the
others). This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to
the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the
'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed by the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream-KERNEL-VERSION'. For example, if kernel
version 3.1-rc9 fixed and issue, the tag would be: 'kernel-fixed-
upstream-v3.1-rc9'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Thanks in advance.
