I am now running Ubuntu 12.04 beta1 updated and the same thing - the webcam is not recognised.. I'm afraid I have to say Me too, and attach to this bug report. Maybe it's early to get into it, but when I record from an ANALOG mike (since the USB's unavailable) the SoundRecorder's playback sounds like mice talking. SORRY: In my case the webcam (video) is properly identified, but the mike is wrong. I have two choices, internal or webcam mike, and I have to switch back-n-forth several times just to get the illusion of it working: once I open an app (GoogleTalk) it's clear it's not working. tested with the latest mainline i386.deb that is: linux-image-3.1.0-030100rc10-generic_3.1.0-030100rc10.201110200610_i386.deb and the webcam is still not recognised tag changed to 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream' [I think i have done this test correctly. Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . If possible, please test the latest kernel (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag(Only that one tag, please leave the others). This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. If this bug is fixed by the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream-KERNEL-VERSION'. For example, if kernel version 3.1-rc9 fixed and issue, the tag would be: 'kernel-fixed- upstream-v3.1-rc9'.
