Hi, the all-in-one device HP Deskjet F4580 is supported through HPLIP, so it does work with simple-scan. I did read through your how-to for reporting bugs: ran a test session with xsane - no problems. However, after trying to reproduce the crash with simple-scan it worked perfectly and did not crash at all. Nothing changed in the setup. The only possibility is that there were some updates in the meantime. So I'd say leave the status as it is, since I cannot reproduce the problem. OK, thanks for your feedback! In sixty days a bot will set the bug to invalid if there is no further activity. If I had to guess, I would say there is a problem with the hplip scanner driver that sometime causes simple-scan to crash. Unfortunately problems with the scanner driver can easily take down the complete simple-scan program with the current architecture (instead if just failing to produce a picture). It might be that simple-scan abuses the interface / skips some mandatory initialization. Sadly at the moment there is no manpower to investigate this further, however.
