Re: [Bug 793592] Re: [Studio Hybrid 140g, Realtek ALC888, Black Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all
Yes, I've also found this to be true on Fedora at any rate... Is there anything that can be done to determine the cause of the bug from booting the Studio Hybrid from either the 10.04 and/or Maverick release CDs and then executing some commands in terminal to find out what the differences are? If I boot from CD with either of these releases I get sound over HDMI - on 11.04 I get nothing! If you think this will help identify the root cause of the bug, as a low tech user, what commands should I try - Original Message - From: Renaud 793...@bugs.launchpad.net To: timms.char...@gmail.com Sent: Saturday, September 03, 2011 3:45 PM Subject: [Bug 793592] Re: [Studio Hybrid 140g, Realtek ALC888,Black Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all By the way Fedora 16 (kernel 3.0 and 3.1) and OpenSuse 11.4 (2.6.37) do not work either (an hdmi output is listed in the sound control panel, but still no sound). -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/793592 Title: [Studio Hybrid 140g, Realtek ALC888, Black Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Dell Studio Hybrid 140g produced sound via HDMI in earlier versions of Ubuntu. Re: [Bug 793592] Re: [Studio Hybrid 140g, Realtek ALC888, Black Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all
Hi Renaud David OK you can tell from my reply that I'm in no way a technical person but am an enthusiastic supporter and promoter of Ubuntu. Therefore, what I don't understand from your reply David is that in earlier releases of Ubuntu (10 series), when presumably there were individual modules that dealt with audio over HDMI my Dell Studio Hybrid systems worked fine. Now that these individual modules have been combined into one in Ubuntu (11 series) audio over HDMI just doesn't work. Surely this points to where the problem lies? - Original Message - From: David Henningsson 793...@bugs.launchpad.net To: timms.char...@gmail.com Sent: Monday, August 29, 2011 9:23 AM Subject: [Bug 793592] Re: [Studio Hybrid 140g, Realtek ALC888,Black Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all @Renaud, this is by design. Re: [Bug 793592] Re: [Studio Hybrid 140g, Realtek ALC888, Black Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all
Hello Luke Thanks for your assistance. I have now updated the audio drivers following the instructions on the supplied Wiki link - using Terminal. Unfortunately, following a reboot there was no change. I have video via HDMI but no audio. Incidentally, I have a second Dell Studio Hybrid 140G with the same specification as the above. This one too had a fresh install of 11.04. It outputs its video via DVI and audio via optical SP/DIF. This configuration works fine. I've tried connecting this machine too via HDMI, just in case there might be a hardware fault with the other, and the result is exactly the same - i.e. video works via HDMI but the audio does not. On both machines, when I go to Sound Preferences Hardware Internal Audio the following options are listed:- Analog Stereo Input Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output + Analog Stereo Input Analog Stereo Output Analog Stereo Duplex I will now run the apport-collect 793592 so you can get information on my hardware Best Regards Charles - Original Message - From: Luke Yelavich luke.yelav...@canonical.com To: timms.char...@gmail.com Sent: Tuesday, June 07, 2011 3:27 AM Subject: [Bug 793592] Re: [Studio Hybrid 140g, Realtek ALC888,Black Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all Thanks for your report. You say that you were using HDMI, however at least in 11.04, I do not see any HDMI devices on your system. Could you please try updating your audio drivers, as outlined at the following URL, and report back as to whether that helps? If that doesn't help, please run apport-collect 793592 in a terminal, so we can get an update on your hardware information. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/InstallingLinuxAlsaDriverModules Thanks again. ** Changed in: alsa-driver (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/793592 Title: [Studio Hybrid 140g, Realtek ALC888, Black Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Dell Studio Hybrid 140g produced sound via HDMI in earlier versions of Ubuntu.
