[Bug 84931] Re: Various icons don't have a 16x16 icon size

2007-04-05 Thread Andreas Nilsson
It's not a bug in gtk, as this icon is supposed to be used for dragging
multiple objects with the cursor only, hence the name gtk-dnd-multiple.png and
it only need to exist in 32x32. Too bad gaim misuse this icon (and some others
it seems) for totally different things that they were designed for.
Christian Hammond who is a gaim developer said on irc that he considered it a
bug in gaim as well.

[Bug 98980] Re: dist-ugrade change swap vol id?

2007-04-05 Thread Sebastian Heinlein
why did you use qparted if it was only an upgrade? apt-get dist-upgrade
should not touch your hard disks.I don't see a bug here.

the average user won't need a disk paritioner after installation. I
think it is ok, if it has to be installed separately.

there is a powerful infrastructure that ensures the success of the
upgrade. so please use update-manager instead of a "dump" apt-get dist-
upgrade.

the uuid is used to detect the correct partition after adding, remvoing
or swapping hard disks.

we have got graphical alternatives to apt-get to install applications:
add/remove applications or synaptic.

[Bug 102468] Re: restricted-manager shows all unused OSS modules as "needs computer restart"

2007-04-05 Thread Martin Pitt
Thanks for the additional information, I have everything I need now.

The best solution would of course be to change the OSS modules to ship
proper modaliases, so that they don't appear in the first place, but we
cannot have that easily.

Some loud thinking/taking notes:

Currently, state 'needs computer restart' is displayed if 'enabled' !=
'loaded', which is bad because modules are enabled by default (this
should really be 'allowed'), but not loaded for hardware which was not
detected, i. e. for modules with overly generous modaliases.

So let's change the rules like that:

- initially, state is never 'needs restart'. for enabled and not loaded -> 'not
used'
- enabling a module modprobes it; success -> 'in use', failure -> 'needs
restart' (this should work fine with the X.org drivers since they fail to
modprobe if a free X driver is configured)
- disabling a module -> needs restart (manual module unloading can have bad
consequences)

[Bug 103083] Re: Duplicate searching needed

2007-04-05 Thread Martin Pitt
Apport already supports bug patterns, but they have to be created
manually by the developers: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-
devel/2006-October/021502.html

Malone already searches for similar bug titles and proposes them.
However, many users seem to ignore that, so it seems we have to make
Malone much more insistive about that. This is already in planning.

it didn't automatically switch over at the time this bug was reported.

enough for it to be usable. Sadly there was also no apparent way to

Emilio,
nice patch, works fine for me.
My personal opinion is: we should inform the user that we changed the url
(maybe the user is running bughelper in a script, so we should tell him that he
has a systematic mistake in his url).
That's why I added a print statement to your patch.

What do you think?

[Bug 83456] Re: wpa psk key not updated in kwallet after changing it

I have exactly the same problem with WEP-keys. I used the combination of
ndiswrapper, knetworkamanger and kwallet since Dapper on my HP nx6110
(Broadcom 4318 rev2). Only with Feisty do I have this problem. Before
Feisty I used WPA-PSK, but this no longer works (several bugs filed).
Although th problem seems to have appeared only this week, since I
installed Feisty beta on Saturday (31.03.2007) and until, I think,
Monday the automatic connection worked.

[Bug 97037] Re: desktop-effects should disable effects if the driver is changed

After the Compiz 0.3.6-1ubuntu11 update, I disabled the nvidia driver

maybe it's fixed now.

Sorry thought I was reporting a bug against ubuntu. Never mind, I just

it was a bug report system.

[Bug 83045] Re: Some New Users have a hard time switching to Ubuntu

2007-04-05 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
This bug report has now been rewritten to a very different proposal,
that of bifurcating Ubuntu's interface based on whether users self-
identify as "beginners" or "experienced". That is no longer to do with
the Ubuntu documentation.

It is also an idea that has repeatedly been shown not to work. It was
tried during Windows 95 development and failed[1], it was tried during
Microsoft Office 2007 development and failed[2], and it was even tried
in early versions of Gnome and failed[3]. It fails because it asks
people a question they have no interest in answering, because people
overestimate themselves, because people are often beginners in some
parts of the system while being experts in others, and because if you
need *just that one thing* that happens to be in the "expert" mode you
have to change the entire interface to get to it.
