[Bug 156979] Please sync ocfs2-tools 1.2.4-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2007-10-25 Thread Fabio Massimo Di Nitto
Public bug reported:

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

 affects ubuntu/ocfs2-tools
 status confirmed
 subscribe ubuntu-archive

Please sync ocfs2-tools 1.2.4-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main).

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
Debian maintainer did pull all our changes. There is no delta to carry around
anylonger.

Changelog since current hardy version 1.2.4-0ubuntu1:

ocfs2-tools (1.2.4-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * The Lazo rosa release.
  * New upstream release. This version was released on Apr 6th, 2007. Main
changes are:
- Allow network timeout configuration.
- Bug fixes.
- offsetof(3) issues have been fixed, so patches/102_stddef.h is no longer
  relevant.
  * Added debconf support for O2CB_IDLE_TIMEOUT_MS, O2CB_KEEPALIVE_DELAY_MS
and O2CB_RECONNECT_DELAY_MS in postinst, config and templates mainly from
Ubuntu.
  * po/es.po: While at it, updated Spanish translation.
  * po/vi.po: Updated Vietnamese translation, thanks to Clytie Siddall
(closes: #438451).
  * po/ru.po: Updated Russian translation, thanks to Yuri Kozlov (closes:
#438633).
  * po/fr.po: Updated French translation. Thanks to Jean-Baka
Domelevo-Entfellner (closes: #440579).
  * po/cs.po: Updated Czech translation. Thanks to Miroslav Kure (closes:
#442903).
  * Added /etc/init.d/ocfs2 in order to mount and unmount OCFS2 volumes, that I
simply missed on past releases. This allows to unmount OCFS2 during a
reboot and thus avoid a panic (closes: #416550).
  * debian/rules: Removed old code for quilt patching now that we include the
Makefile from that package.
  * This version does not fail to build twice in a row (strange...). Closes:
#442692.

ocfs2-tools (1.2.3-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release. This version was released on Feb 2nd, 2007. Main
changes are:
- Backup superblock support added.
- Local mount support added (with kernel 2.6.20+).
- Heartbeat thread's IO priority can now be set (with kernel 2.6.20+).
- Bugs fixed in fsck, debugfs and console .
  * Removed parts of debian/NEWS no longer relevant.
  * Renamed debian/README to debian/README.Debian in order to be included by
dh_installdocs.
  * Added short description to o2cb init script in order to clean a lintian
warning.

ocfs2-tools (1.2.2-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release. This version was released on Oct 20th, 2006. Main
changes are:
- tunefs.ocfs2: Volumes can be resized offline.
- debugfs.ocfs2: Commands bmap, findpath, ncheck and decode added.
- Fixed bug in o2cb_ctl when adding nodes (closes: #405353).
- Fixed lots of bugs.
  * Removed ocfs2console/blkid/blkid_types.h, that slipped in 1.2.1-1.2.
  * Acknowledged NMUs (closes: #380879, #389916).
  * Added Dutch translation (thanks, cobaco). Closes: #436863.
  * Merged 01-manpages-typos and some parts of 02-init-typos patches upstream.
  * debian/rules: Changed dh_install to --list-missing in order to ignore
temporally the now installed headers.
  * debian/control: Replaced Source-Version with binary:Version.

[Bug 59695] Re: default value in power.sh potentially kills laptop disks

2007-10-25 Thread Kamil Páral
Matthew Garrett is right, it seems NOT to be an Ubuntu issue. I managed
to get the *same* behaviour under GRUB. In BIOS or GRUB, the harddisk
makes the click only once, after that it's silent. That's because
noone is accessing the drive anymore. But in GRUB, you can browse the
filesystem. So if I list some directory, the harddisk audibly loads
and after a few seconds again unloads. The difference is, under
Ubuntu, someone is always accessing the disk, therefore it unloads/loads
constantly over and over again. Windows must automatically set the APM
values to another values right after boot (or they might not be
accessing/probing the disk all the time, even when idle).

Therefore, the values which everyone complains about are really set from
the manufacturer. The question is if it's wrong. Some people may see
that unloading disk after 20sec of inactivity is a good thing (less
power(?), better security from fall). I can see that hdd manufacturers
can set this settings intentionally. The problem is that linux does not
allow the disk to stay in the unload mode for even a second. Maybe the
culprit is kernel or some program running in the background constantly
probing all devices. IF the harddisk stayed unloaded until some
read/write activity is needed, all this would be good behaviour.

So there are two problems:

1. Ubuntu is touching the disk all the time. The culprit must be found
(e.g. some logging daemons) and the behaviour has to be fixed to be more
appropriate for desktop/laptop users. Not only it would extend harddisk
life but also extend battery-time on laptops.

2. Until previous bug is fixed, Ubuntu should check for this kind of APM
values and tweak them a little bit not to destroy the harddisk in a few
months. This is clearly a linux problem (the disk should stay unloaded
for some time and it doesn't) so Ubuntu should provide some patch to
save customers disks until the whole linux-harddisk-thing is written
with more concern of desktop/laptop users and not only servers.

For those who didn't read carefully I sum up: The problem is not in the APM and
disk unloading quickly, the problem is in the disk loading up right after
unloading.

-i810 is an obsolete driver unfortunately, so there's not really anyone

[Bug 156981] Mislabeled Button, Close is really Abort!

2007-10-25 Thread Stephen Gornick
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnomebaker

Gnomebaker displays a dialog titled Baking which displays the status
of the Burn, along with a button labeled Close.

However pressing the Close button does cause a confirmation dialog and
immediately closes the window. This also effectively aborts the burn
operation.

Other applications can be closed but they still run (e.g., Amarok,
Pidgin IM, etc.) so the end-result of this close button might be
confusing to some.

Should not the close button first prompt the user to verify close (and
terminate any baking that might be in progress)? Or if not, then
perhaps the button would be best labeled Abort?

[Bug 138256] Re: xserver-xorg-video-intel hangs the system when laptop lid is closed

00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics

In addition to this bug, the backlight would not turn on after a resume
from hibernation, and the video would be corrupted after a resume from
suspend. Disabling compiz fusion removed these problems.

I just installed Peter Clifton's updated driver and the problems have
disappeared while running compiz fusion. Bother resume from ram and

[Bug 130247] Re: Random system freeze (keyboard led blink)

2007-10-25 Thread P4man
Maybe this will help track down the cause: today it happened again,
several times. At one point, I noticed windows where closing for no
reason. Thunderbird was running in the background, firefox was active,
and suddenly I noticed thunderbird disappear. I restarted it, it
closed again within seconds. Then firefox just closed. I tried opening a
system monitor, it closed before it really opened. As if alt+F4 key
where stuck. Second later the whole system froze with those dreaded
blinking LEDs.

[Bug 156551] All in all you guys in development did and are doing one heck of a great job! Thanks,

2007-10-25 Thread John
Hi the reinstall did fix the screen so the wmv file will play however
Totem hangs and cannot play a DVD but apart from that everything works
fine except sometime the screen says in a small blue area out of range
for a moment after it boots up, but once it is running everything is
fine.
I do think that perhaps Totem has a conflict with some of the Codec
files and perhaps a better set of video drivers. But I can see how that
could be complicated with so many video cards.
However this is a 945gtp board with a standard intel 950 video on board
however it does work with the 810 driver. So it must be Totem that
cannot play DVD and at times can have a loss of picture. However now
that seems to be fine.
It is still FAR better than Windows and I think it will stay stable
All in all you guys in development did and are doing one heck of a great
job! Thanks,
John

I just did a fresh install of Gutsy and logcheck is completely broken. How

[Bug 156084] Re: Acer laptop: Suspend broken in Gutsy [regression]

2007-10-25 Thread Martin Leopold
After a Feisty-Gusty upgrade I have a similar problem with an IBM X41
tablet.

The suspend-to-disk operation seems to take fairly long, but eventually
finishes. On resume the boot procedure reaches the Ubuntu splash screen
and then stalls indefinitely. Using the suspend key or echo disk
/sys/power/state results in the same scenario. I noticed some
suggestions elsewhere that this could be related to the graphics driver
(the laptop uses i915) - however stopping X does not seem to make a
difference.

For me it seems that changing HIBERNATE_MODE to shutdown in
/etc/default/acpi-support is slightly more successful. On a fresh boot
the machine can reliably suspend/resume, but repeating the operation
causes it to hang on resume every now and then.

[Bug 149205] Re: network-manager-vpnc asks for password even though it's in the gnome-keyring

2007-10-25 Thread chreko
Another way how this can be temporally fixed is by using Seahorse

under the tab passwords. After deleting them, network-manager could
remember my password again. At least this is what happened to me. So the
problem seems to be related with seahorse.

[Bug 153175] Re: kubuntu menus scrambled

2007-10-25 Thread darkonc
Yes. Final install is still broken.

I did both a split partition install and a single partition install..
both resulted in mangled menus.

Other settings:
 Language: English
TZ: Canada/Vancouver
kbd: US English

partitioning: Manual. -- either / /var /tmp /home or single slice for
entire system.

Once again: both systems were clean installs -- not upgrades.
I can do an upgrade install (starting from ubuntu, though, not kubuntu). I'll
see what it does.

(hmm... I MAY have a kubuntu 7.04 system to upgrade)
In either case, I probably won't be able to do the upgrade installs until the
weekend.

One thing to note is that many (but not all) of the packages that I
installed after the initial install seem to have 'normal' menus. (and a
few of the initially installed packages also had normal menus after the
initial install.)

This is true for my Vaio VGN-UX1-XN. Suspending to RAM and disk works in

I believe the solution at

the S2RAM utility being missing in gutsy.

[Bug 151168] Re: Memory leak in nvidia-glx-new's GL_EXT_texture_from_pixmap

2007-10-25 Thread Sasa Markovic
Just my two cents:

With everything fully up-to-date, I can only say:

gutsy + nvidia-glx-new + compiz = total disaster

I have an ASUS M2NPV-VM motherboard with an integrated NVidia GeForce
6150GPU. I use the following compiz plugins: Cube, Expo, Rotate Cube,
Viewport Switcher, Animations, Water Effect, Windows Decoration, Wobbly
Windows, Image loading plugins, Cube Caps, Dbus, Resize info, Video
Playback, Application Switcher, Move Window, Place Windows, Scale,
Resize Window.

It leaks memory as a rotten barrel and makes my (once beautiful) Ubutnu
almost useless. Two or three hours of work and it's dead as a rat.
Compiz takes 600-700Mb of 1Gb RAM available, the machine starts swapping
and and soon - it's gone.

This was my easisest way to reproduce this bug:

1) Open Thunderbird and Firefox
2) Minimize Thunderbird, Maximize Thunderbird, Minimize Firefox, Maximize
Firefox
3) Repeat step 2 and watch how comipz.real leaks memory. You don't need to
rotate the cube at all.

After repeating step (2) ten times, memory usage of compiz increased
from 275Mb to 433Mb :(

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEMTIME+ COMMAND
 5504 sasam 15 0 433m 398m 364m S 1.3 40.8 0:37.62 compiz.real

IMHO, this is a *critical* issue: gutsy, nvidia nad compiz are common on
many ubuntu installations and god knows how many users will encounter
this problem as soon as they upgrade to gutsy.

know if it is related or a new bug?

Can anyone confirm the comment from Harvey Muller

[Bug 149864] Re: Problems with x.org after update.

2007-10-25 Thread Tim
No, I don't have this problem anymore after installing the restricted
drivers.

Please don't mark it just as solved.
Ubuntu should learn from the issue above that the release process needs to be
improved.

Also, bulled-proof X should be improved: when there is no restriced
modules available but set in the settings because it was available
before then do something to let the user with a working system and same
keyboard settings etc.

1 more problem here is that the user has to edit xorg manually to
add/change the keyboard layout.

[Bug 114331] Re: xserver starts but display is corrupt

2007-10-25 Thread furry_gizmo
Hi Guys,

I too have a Fujitsu Scenic with integrated Intel graphics, and I have a
similar problem with the release version of 7.10. It was a clean install
of the OS, not an upgrade or dual boot.

The symptoms are; From power up, the Ubuntu splash screen and progress
bar are displayed ok. Once the progress bar reaches the end and the
splash screen closes, there is a brief delay then the display corrupts
with vertical green, white, blue and black lines. The circular mouse
cursor with the rotating dots is also displayed but the dots and cursor
freeze. The display then flashes once to black then the vertical lines
are displayed again, in a different pattern. The PC freezes at this
point and I have to power off to restart it.

I can get round this by tapping the F8 key several times as soon as the
splash screen closes, and the PC boots normally. I don't know if the F8
key does anything specific or if any F key could be used.

I also think that if you reboot the PC, it restarts as normal. It is
only when you power up from cold that this happens, but I haven't
confirmed this yet.

I don't have the exact details of the PC to hand, but I noticed the
graphics driver was marked as 'experimental'.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you want the exact specs of the
machine or more info.

Regards

Steve

[Bug 137401] Re: kde apps draw very slowly

- direct rendering: Yes
- window drawing is always fast (both with compiz and without it)
- video playback is OK without compiz.

Thanks for the bug-report! I know it has not been communicated very well, but
bugs.kde.org for Dolphin is only valid for the KDE 4 version of Dolphin, the
KDE 3 version is not maintained anymore (see also

a filemanager with such a bug REALLY shouldn't the default?! this won't
even get fixed so (AT LEAST) for hardy dolphin should really get 86'ed
and find its way back in with kde4 with hardy+1 (iffy iguanodon?) ...

[Bug 107188] Re: [MASTER] [kde] Upgrade tool crashed with Cannot allocate memory (edgy - feisty)

2007-10-25 Thread FerranRius
BigPick: I'll test your patch as soon I go back home to see if I can confirm
your results.
However, I insist on what I (and others) have said. Until a definitive fix for
this has been released, this should be considered a critical bug and, as it
clearly affects many users, upgrading from Feisty should not be recommended.

[Bug 151168] Re: Memory leak in nvidia-glx-new's GL_EXT_texture_from_pixmap

2007-10-25 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I'm with Sasa on this.

This issue is *really* critical. Is this already known upstream?

Also, any ubuntu devs to comment, and confirm this bug?

So far, there are two soluctions wich work for me right now:

1. Don't use Compiz. You can do this by disabling it in the appearance applet.
2. Issue a compiz --replace once in a while, to clean up the memory

I hope this gets fixed soon :(

[Bug 152701] Re: 8-core Mac pro: problems in 7.04 and 7.10rc

2007-10-25 Thread nikita
I had the black screen problem on a similiar configuration as well.
8-core Mac Pro, Apple Cinema Display, 7.10 final installed on the hard
drive.

The solution is to remove the splash boot option from whatever kernel
image your booting from (press e on top of the image in grub, remove
the word splash, press ESC and then b to boot - this is from the top
of my head, hope it's right).

Also, check out http://macprolinux.blogspot.com/ , there's a few more
articles about Ubuntu on the Mac Pro.

[Bug 152022] Re: [gutsy] KDE Basket crashes on startup

2007-10-25 Thread fhackenberger
As the latest upload of basket to gutsy was on 10-07, the bug is
certainly still present in gutsy-release. Luke: Could you please pack
your ~/.kde/share/apps/basket and ~/.kde/share/config/basketrc into a
tarball and post it here? If there is information in your basket which
you don't want to publish, please copy ~/.kde/share/apps/basket
somewhere as a backup and try to remove as much information manually
before preparing the tarball, while making sure the bug is still
reproducible.

[Bug 36189] Re: Applets do not scale well with changing resolution

2007-10-25 Thread Franck
The bug is still there in Gusty with Gnome 2.20.0

It is even more serious as with xrandr, gnome-panel will adjust its size to the
smallest output resolution.
When coming back to normal resolution, applets are arranged in a apparent
random order...

Howto reproduce :
- on a laptop, resolution is 1200x800
- place applets and lock them on the top panel
- plug in a video-projector (say it supports 1024x800)
- type 'xrandr --output VGA --auto' in a terminal
- the video-projector will display desktop : great !!
- the integrated LCD display remain in 1200x800. Cool.
- gnome-panel will adjust its size to fit the 1024x800 VGA display. Really cool.
- sell your stuff to the audiance :)
- unplug the projector and type 'xrandr --output VGA --off'
- gnome-panel goes back to its original size... really nice
- BUT : applets are all mixed up :(

[Bug 156989] [Gutsy] Totem - video hangs after disabling subtitles

2007-10-25 Thread jeanesius
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

When I start playing a video file (xvid codec in this case) with
subtitles (.srt in this case) by simply making file names the same,
putting both files in the same folder and double clicking the file
(which opens totem) I can view the movie with subtitles. However, when
playing the movie if I disable the subtitle by View Subtitles menu
video hangs and the only option is reloading the video.

[Bug 137401] Re: kde apps draw very slowly

2007-10-25 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
It is indirectly related to direct rendering being available: when
you're using Xgl, clients under Xgl don't get direct rendering.

On your GeForce 6200 you're not using Xgl, so you obviously don't see
this Xgl bug.
