[Bug 199757] Re: Clock Applet has incorrect times for some locations.

2008-03-08 Thread Pascal De Vuyst
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at [WWW]
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in gnome-system-tools.

[Bug 199756] Re: Clock Applet crashes GNOME when trying to add Wichita-McConnell AFB to locations

2008-03-08 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 173682] Re: Kde freeze after approx an hour inaction

2008-03-08 Thread wolfger
Go to your System menu, and launch KSysGuard - Performance Monitor
and then keep that window visible so that you can see it when the system
freezes. Alternately, (also from the System menu) run Konsole and
type top at the prompt and hit return. Keep this window visible so you
can see it when the system freezes. If you can it would be nice to do
both, using KSysGuard to monitor total CPU/mem usage, and top to see
which applications are using the most CPU.

[Bug 199756] Re: Clock Applet crashes GNOME when trying to add Wichita-McConnell AFB to locations

2008-03-08 Thread kripkenstein
Sebastian,

The word crash in the title may be misleading, I think. The precise
symptom is that gnome panel and all its applets disappear, then reappear
(and the new location is not added). There is no crash report in
/var/crash. The automatic bug reporting tool is also not run. So I am
not sure this is a crash, or otherwise, if it is then no crash report is
generated. (The problem is consistently reproducible, however, crash or
not.)

If there is another way to check whether this is indeed a crash, and to
get a crash report, please let me know, I am baffled so far.

[Bug 199776] Re: Computer freezes when running compiz after restarting or resuming an X session when running compiz

** Attachment added: grey_bar_t42_compiz.jpg

** Summary changed:

- Computer freezes when running compiz after restarting or resuming an X

+ Computer freezes after restarting or resuming an X session when running compiz

** Description changed:

System: ThinkPad T42, Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) Alpha 6 / ATI Mobility
Radeon 9600 chip, FGLRX driver 8.47.3

With the latest version of the fglrx driver, compiz runs perfectly well
and the machine is also able to suspend properly. But however, when I
try to resume - with compiz previously enabled - I a get a grey and
somewhat speckled slim bar on the lower right of the screen - sometimes
with some artifacts around the mouse cursor (see screenshot). The mouse
can be moved but nothing else will work - compiz desktop will just not
  awake a second time!

- When I previously disable compiz and then set my machine in suspend
- mode, this grey bar shows up as well, but only for a couple of
- milliseconds and then the desktop appears to start normally. It's the
- same when I log-off and try to log back on (with compiz enabled) X
- freezes totally and the only thing I can do is a hard reboot! This
- happens every time I try to start X for a second time. The freeze occurs
- while the log-on sound is playing so I also hear a frozen sound (just
- like zzz).

I just tried to follow the step in

freezes, and when I pgrep Xorg, I get two process numbers. If I try to
attach process No 1, I get the following error message:

A problem internal to GDB has been detected,
  further debugging may prove unreliable.

If I try to attach the second process ID, the computer freezes again!

Is there anyone who has the same problems when trying to resume X? I'm
just curious if it actually has something to do with the proprietary
fglrx drivers or with compiz of with the vesa framebuffer. Did this
issue also occur with other video-hardware than ATI's (e.g. NVIDIA)?

[Bug 85049] Re: kaffeine doesn't open smb:/ files

2008-03-08 Thread NickB
using gutsy

kaffiene 0.8.5-0ubuntu1 from main repo works fine with smb:// uri's and
different symbols in the filename when kaffiene-xine with the same rev
is installed.

kaffiene 0.8.6-0ubuntu3-gutsy1 from backports doesn't wortk and fails
with this error. Also, It breaks the dependency because there is no
matching kaffiene-xine package from backports

whatever happened in this upgrade broke this feature.

[Bug 199776] [NEW] Computer freezes after restarting or resuming an X session when running compiz

2008-03-08 Thread billythegates
Public bug reported:

When I previously disable compiz and then set my machine in suspend mode
and resume from it, this grey bar shows up as well, but only for a
couple of milliseconds and then the desktop appears to start normally.
It's the same when I log-off and try to log back on (with compiz
enabled) X freezes totally and the only thing I can do is a hard reboot!
This happens every time I try to start X for a second time. The freeze
occurs while the log-on sound is playing so I also hear a frozen sound
(just like zzz).

[Bug 144216] Re: Slow switching tab in firefox/opera when the desktop effects are enabled in Gutsy Gibbon

2008-03-08 Thread Bryan Youse
I've been checking this thread every once in a while for updates for
this problem, since I really want to be able to use Emerald over k.w.d.
or metacity. The 169.12 driver update sounded promising based on the
last couple posts, so I just installed it.

Unfortunately, I can report that this does not fix this problem for my
setup: Kubuntu Gutsy, Dell Inspiron 1720, GeForce 8600 GT. Any non-
pixmap emerald theme is still very slow on tab switching in
firefox/eclipse and in minimization animations.

[Bug 199683] Re: IPW2200 fails to connect to access point

I'll rather wait for somekind of an update, to see the problem solved.
My other laptop uses IPW3945 intel card so cannot take encyptions off from my
wireless router,
so can't reproduce your symptoms :(

Though still would like to know why the kernel changed from generic to -386
I'm using 64bit on my other laptop, basically the same setup, and there is
generic kernel.
And no problems.

The problem is gone on the fourth try. I used custom setup of

messed up the initial login. Maybe a reference to an old active

[Bug 199272] Re: Esc broken

2008-03-08 Thread plun
Digged some more about this... it is a usplash change

usplash (0.5.12) hardy; urgency=low

  * Add new command INPUTCHAR which checks for a pending key press and
reports it to the FIFO (empty string if no key was pressed). This is
better than INPUTTIMEOUT for implementing things like Press ESC to skip
this step after all. Documented the command in the manpage.

But apparently there is nothing to Esc fromit just gives a system
halt

Correct package for fsck is probably e2fsprogs

2008-03-08 Thread pehaimi
Upgraded to Hardy kernel as described in the instructions at:
http://sudan.ubuntuforums.com/showthread.php?t=646755page=33

uname -r:
2.6.24-11-generic

On the 32 bit machine, everything seems OK so far. Continuous playing of
flac files for 14 hours did not induce an oops. With Gutsy kernel, the
machine oopsed usually within 30 minutes of playing. So, most likely,
the problem has been fixed in the Hardy kernel.

On the AMD64 machine, I cannot test because I hit a regression: The

highlighting the displayed number. In fullscreen-mode this works too.
But when you then leave fullscreen mode, ctrl-l does select the widget
(and the text within) but does not highlight the number. Btw, going back
to fullscreen mode does however give feedback.

Steps to Reproduce:

Start up evince. Press F11 twice. Press Control-l

Evince version: GNOME evince 2.20.1
Using package from Ubuntu 7.10

Niels

[Bug 57755] Re: Udev Rules for SmartCard Support

2008-03-08 Thread Michael Bienia
Unfortunately it's not fixed in hardy. It's not clear who should install
those udev rules as three packages (libccid, gnupg, gnupg2) can use
those rules and the scard group but are independent from each other.
