We intentionally created the wesnoth-all metapackage so that people installing
wesnoth did get the campaigns, sounds, etc but didn't get the server installed.
So if someone has wesnoth-server installed it's because they have manually
installed it, as no package in the archive Depends, Recommends or Suggests it.

I'd be bothered if I had a server running and installing the wesnoth-server
package didn't properly configure with the default parameters the server, as
it's expected for a Debian package shipping a daemon.

Re: [Bug 208267] [NEW] openjdk-6 path should be added to java_home

2008-03-28 Thread Emilio Pozuelo Monfort
Liang Zhao wrote:
Eclipse 3.2.2 uses /ect/eclipse/java_home to locate java sdk, but the
lastest java sdk package (openjdk-6) is not included in java_home.
Therefore, eclipse requires a java sdk location when there is only
 openjdk-6 installed in system.

 Two solutions may be applied,

 1) For the version of 3.2.2, a new location /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk
could be added to java_home file.

I prefer this one, but have you tested it? With IcedTea it didn't even start up
(see bug 195964)

 2) It seems that the new version of eclipse, 3.3.2, has changed its jdk
search mechanism. It can locate openjdk-6 without modifying java_home.
Thus, it will be appreciative to upgrade to a new version.

I'm afraid this won't happen for Hardy, so we should concentrate on the
first point.

Same problem: OpenOffice 2.3, Kubuntu 7.10, on an Acer TM2480 laptop:
The toolbars and menu bar disappear, and only the item under the cursor
becomes visible. Dropdowns go blank as soon as the cursor touches them,
then only the item under the cursor appears. This began as an
intermittant problem that could be fixed by restarting the application,
but is now a permanent feature of OpenOffice. The previous versions

[Bug 32357] Re: Installer doesn't recognise SATA disks as primary.

2008-03-28 Thread sokycompnerd
sorry, installation was on a P4, intel D865PERL motherboard, 32 bit processor,
i686 install, Kubuntu 7.10...
I think this is a serious bug within the install routine for the GRUB
bootloader and should be taken QUITE SERIOUS... if I had an operating system
that required certain boot routines set up on my PATA Master Boot Record, that
information would have been lost and that would have been a big downer.

[Bug 32357] Re: Installer doesn't recognise SATA disks as primary.

2008-03-28 Thread sokycompnerd
I actually do find this as a bug.
I have a 20G ATA drive in my system for backup purposes (I haven't spent the
money, and don't really find it necessary to, on an external backup drive)...
My primary drive is an 80G SATA.
Anyhow, when installing the system the installer finds the 80G as the primary
drive and does assume the operating system to go on this drive; however, when
GRUB is installed it installs to the ATA drive... then when I reboot the system
for first boot to Kubuntu it gave me Error Loading Operating System so I was
like oh hell...

However, I found that switching my drives in BIOS so the ATA drive was
primary gave me access to GRUB... why wasn't GRUB installed onto my SATA
drive? I don't think it's an error in the detection of the drives,
because the SATA drive was listed as the first drive within the
installer, but rather within the routine which installs GRUB on the
system.

2008-03-28 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System -
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

[Bug 173833] Re: evdev mouse fails on hardy: cannot open input pEvdev

2008-03-28 Thread Pär Andersson
This bug is caused by an configuration change that is undocumented, the
man page contains options that are no longer valid. This is made worse
by the fact that the error message is very unclear.

Both problems are resolved in upstream git (freedesktop.org, not
debian).

The Debian package is also mainained in git, which makes me a bit unsure
of how to submit a patch for this. I guess I should do it the git way
and not submit a normal debdiff here?

My proposed solution is to simply cherry pick
7f1e8146d4b13929a86a4b80f783a720c1b5573a and
11cf9c92c0d31d1058ec6c013b7126bd8909beba from freedesktop. Those two
commits contain improved error messages, and an updated man page.

This is how I did this locally:
git clone git://git.debian.org/git/pkg-xorg/driver/xserver-xorg-input-evdev
git remote add xorg
git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/xorg/driver/xf86-input-evdev
git fetch xorg
git-cherry-pick 7f1e8146d4b13929a86a4b80f783a720c1b5573a
git-cherry-pick 11cf9c92c0d31d1058ec6c013b7126bd8909beba

I then verified that the package still builds ok, the man-page is
updated, and when using an old xorg.conf Xorg.0.log now contains No
Device specified. instead of cannot open input pEvdev.

[Bug 204345] Re: [hardy] [amd64] system sounds and flash sound output are redirected to the wrong sound card

2008-03-28 Thread Jan Rathmann
I have done some testing on a fresh installation now, and it still seems
as if Pulseaudio doesn't like my sound card configuration. Here is a
step-by-step description of what I have done after installation:

- setting the Intel card as default device everywhere in System - Settings -
Audio - Devices
- then the right card is chosen in normal applications, except System sounds
and Flash
- editing ~/.pulse/default-sink and inserting the correct device does not help,
the change gets automatically reverted if I reboot my system (to name of the
Creative card)
- neither does launching 'sudo pulseaudio -C --system' followed by
'set-default-sink index_of_the_Intel_card' in a terminal, so it is just
ignored even if specify the desired playback device explicitly.

I guess it would once again help to temporary blacklist the Creative
card, but this is of course not a so nice and intuitive solution. And I
think it is in general an undesired behaviour if the Settings in
System-Settings-Audio-Devices are ignored for some applications and
there is no easy way to change that.

Another workaround I have tested is to uninstall everything related to
Pulseaudio and installing esound, then everythings works fine as it did
in Gutsy.

Kind regards,
Jan

[Bug 207916] Re: Whats right and now working...

2008-03-28 Thread Thomas David
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu
if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 208300] [NEW] xendomains init script has error

2008-03-28 Thread Matt Saunders
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu hardy (development branch)
Release:8.04

When using the init.d script to stop Xen domains, the following error occurs:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/modprobe.d# /etc/init.d/xendomains stop
Shutting down Xen domains:cut: fields and positions are numbered from 1
Try `cut --help' for more information.
cut: fields and positions are numbered from 1
Try `cut --help' for more information.

Changing the first invocation of cut in that script from -c0 to -c1
appears to fix it - though I'm a Xen n00b so I can't be sure of that.

[Bug 208302] [NEW] smb shares not working with gvfs

2008-03-28 Thread wvengen
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Hardy Beta, I cannot access windows shares anymore:
  $ gnomevfs-ls smb://server.dom.ain/
  blah (Directory, x-directory/smb-share) size 0
  (...)
  $ gvfs-ls smb://server.dom.ain/
  $
nothing happens! smbclient can access the windows server too. The 'network
neighbourhood' does work though:
  $ gnomevfs-ls smb://

  mshome(Regular, application/x-desktop)size 0
  (...)
  $ gvfs-ls  smb://
  MSHOME

  $
Same thing happens in nautilus, of course: I can access the toplevel windows
network, but looking into a domain/workgroup/server or share doesn't work.
One more thing: I can access shares gnomevfs, but not with gvfs:
  $ gnomevfs-ls smb://server.dom.ain/share

   .. (Directory, x-directory/normal) size 0 mode 0755

  $ gvfs-ls smb://physfp.phys.tue.nl/DynStor
Error: The specified location is not mounted

[Bug 199630] Re: Bookmark Edit Bookmark does not launch bookmark editor

2008-03-28 Thread Emanuel Goscinski
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively [WWW] http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd
be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the
problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at [WWW]
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

 At a minimum, we need:
 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
 2. the behavior you expected, and
 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
 Thanks!

[Bug 180205] Re: Personal data manager doesn't display any password information

2008-03-28 Thread Sébastien Corriveau
I did look at the previous post but it didn't help.

The problem I'm having is exactly as described in bug #189528 which has
been marked as a duplicate of this one. That's why I added my comment
here in the first place.

Now I realize that those two bugs are NOT the same so I will add my
comments to the appropriate place.

Sorry for the confusion.

[Bug 208309] [NEW] Epson Perfection V10 scanner is not working

2008-03-28 Thread Pander

SYSFS{idVendor}==04b8, SYSFS{idProduct}==012d, MODE=664, GROUP=scanner

manually added epkowa to /etc/sane.d/dll.conf

manualled configured both epson.conf and epkowa.conf to
usb 0x4b8 0x012d

$ sane-find-scanner

However, the following errors occur:

$ scanimage -d 'epkowa:usblib:003:004'
scanimage: open of device epkowa:usblib:003:004 failed: Invalid argument

Also xsane reports Invalid argument when trying to do a preview scan.

I have tested many suggestions from Internet als also latest stabe of
sane-backends-1.0.19 after doing dpkg --force-depends -P libsane
libsane-extras sane-utils sane xsane xsane-common the Epson Perfection
V10 is better supported by this versio (and probably with version 1.0.18
which is shipped with Hardy) but I did not manage to get it working.

I don't know if the iscan...deb from http://www.avasys.jp/lx-
bin2/linux_e/scan/DL1.do for Perfection V10 is needed and how. I assume
this is included in the libsane-extras. If not, please do so. I'm
willing to test suggestions that will make this scannes work on Ubuntu.

Please fix this for Gutsy, or at least for the Hardy release.

Confirming.
Looks like 2TB fix made it into Linux v2.6.21-rc3. See below link:
http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/3/6/565

Now upto Kernel Team to decide upon Fix or Won't Fix.
If anyone is able to test this against Gutsy and/or Hardy then please report
results on this issue.
Thanks for the report.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

[Bug 198367] Re: karamzaki

Thanks!

The older map was quite huge for some folks, so why not give it two or even
three levels of zooming by clicking? I have to stick to my opinion that the
moving background is still giving a lot of people a hard time. The aesthetic
value is probably 0. The only thing that I can think of it being useful, is in
the case of accessibility.

[Bug 34813] Re: gedit fails to save files over smbfs/cifs

2008-03-28 Thread acabre
I think forking gedit is a little overboard. I am sure that a simple
patch is all that is needed, and could be provided for those of us who
need a resolution before the gedit dev's get around to fixing this.

I even think that a gedit plugin could probably be written to provide
the same functionality. The great thing about open source software is
where there is a manifest need, and people determined to fix it,
patching or adapting an existing application is really easy. And if the
patch is good enough, it gets merged.

[Bug 208321] [NEW] gstreamer-0.10.14 in Gutsy does not play this mpeg file when only one gstreamer 'instance' is running

2008-03-28 Thread harishcm
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem-gstreamer

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 7.10
Release:7.10

Package Version:
gstreamer-0.10.14

I was trying to play this mpeg file
http://www.myabike.com/videos/A-bike_movie2006.mpeg on totem-gstreamer.
The sound was fine but the video was jumbled up. Note that the save
screenshot option in totem displays the frame correctly though. See
attached screenshot.

I also tried 'gst-launch-0.10 playbin
uri=http://www.myabike.com/videos/A-bike_movie2006.mpeg' and got the
same jumbled up video.

A chance discovery however, was that if I started a second gstreamer
'instance', the 2nd instance would play fine. This applies to `2x gst-
launch windows' or `1 gst-launch and 1 totem window (in either order)`.
