[Bug 108527] Re: X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI X300
I'm sorry, I agree with Emmanuel: I can't understand the closing of this bug. Is this bug resolved? If so, why opening the new #195051 bug? Beside that, what about applying the patch for Gutsy too (maybe would be useful to anyone who can't swith to the Hardy beta or try Hardy as soon as it's released)? If this bug isn't resolved, why closing? Where can we follow the resolution of the problem? If there's a more specific bug, why not marking this as a duplicate? The bug is related to ATI open source driver? Let's open a new one with X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI open source driver and mark all related bugs as duplicates! The #195051 is X freezes in drmCommandWrite() when Compiz is enabled on ATI Radeon Mobility 9600, I say: it should be marked as a duplicate. @Bryce, You said you were sort of able to reproduce a lockup on an ATI R350 9800 using firefox 3, without Compiz enabled..., you kill firefox3 by switching to a vt and everything comes back... I think this is not a reproduction of this bug: the system freezes with a clean install of Gutsy (and Feisty with compiz) - all of them without Firefox 3 - and it's impossible to switch to a vt... Besides that, I don't think it's a client application related bug: I tried to send a SIGKILL to all my processes (using Alt-SysRq-i) and X remained freezed. -- X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI X300 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108527 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 145887] Re: Gutsy Beta: Tablet Notebook's Stylus Not Working
Why is that overkill? The best solution would be to do it automatically, so until that's possible, then that means not having it be automatic if you want it to work. Surely a one-time prompt that makes things work is preferable to never asking and not working. It's fine if you want to reject a proposed solution, but instead of aborting all further efforts, why not brainstorm a little to help come up with a solution to implement at least until having it be automatic is possible? Re: [Bug 195782] Re: Users not automatically added to scanner group: No scanning functions of HP multi-function in Hardy
Hi Johannes, Johannes Meixner [2008-04-02 9:47 -]: regarding int_outof, see my comment https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hplip/+bug/195782/comments/39 In particular test int_outof with more than one HP all-in-one device. Perhaps it works for your HAL version? IIRC the syntax already existed in 0.5.10, but didn't work. It was finally fixed in [1] last November. We use hal 0.5.11RC2 now, where it works properly. Since current hal-info also uses int_outof extensively, it's quite important to have that working. If you need to use 0.5.10 in the current openSuSE, then maybe you should apply above upstream patch? Heh, I should have read this bug before spamming the ubuntu-x mailing list. Long story short: as acknowledged here, I managed to screw my only monitor (my laptop screen) via gnome-display-properties. It was even more serious, since I've just discovered that the offending file is .gnome2/montiors.xml (I somehow expected this to be in .gconf/) By the way, a reinstall might *not* solve the problem. [Bug 210749] [NEW] Openoffice spreadsheet crashes x
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org-common I upgraded to the latest Hardy Heron repository this morning, and when starting OpenOffice Calc, clicking on File or File, Open now crashes my X server comprehensively. I get a black screen of death and no keyboard input. All was fine before the latest update. I made one change last night, which could have contributed: I edited the xorg.conf to tell X that I'm using a Microsoft Natural Elite keyboard and not a generic PC105 keyboard. I don't think it's this that's caused the problem: everything else has been working without a problem today, and I'm fairly certain (95%) that I used Openoffice last night after the keyboard change. [Bug 199887] Re: Bandrich C100 HSPDA modem failure due to udev or hald actions
Added kernel and hal tasks to investigate the right way to solve this. Here's a paste of relevant bits of the upstream discussion (for a different device, mentally substitute numbers ;p) Start it off with a Novatel modem that must be ejected to work properly Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman [EMAIL PROTECTED] +# Novatel USB devices need to be ejected so as to work properly as a modem +SYSFS{idProduct}==5010, SYSFS{idVendor}==1410, RUN+=/usr/bin/eject %k *ejected*? Do I even want to know why? Smart devices which may appear either as a mass storage device which contains windows drivers or as the device itself. I guess we should just eject the block device that comes from this device, when it shows up, instead of relying on magic of the eject program to find it. I'm noticing, however, we already have code in unusual_devs.h to handle this situation - why are we adding yet another solution? 2) Devices which have a fake CD-ROM that we don't care about, and are trying to hide from the user. We already handle this in the desktop just fine [1]. And I think that's the way forward for this; causal mom+pop users won't see any cdrom icons anywhere in the UI when using a Sandisk U3 Cruzer (or whatever) but you can still access and mount /dev/sr1 from the command line if you're into that kind of kinky stuff. Who knows, maybe Wine is into that kind of stuff. [1] : right now via hal via fdi files but in a shiny future it will just be yet another udev rule that merges a property DEVICE_SHOULD_BE_IGNORED that the deskops will use to ignore the device. -- Bandrich C100 HSPDA modem failure due to udev or hald actions https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/199887 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I agree marking this as Fix Released is confusing, it should be marked as Invalid. See comments #143 (Bryce's) and #162 (mine) why. There should also be a clarification in the original report why this has been closed and that the issue is not fixed. Additionally it should state clearly what Bryce said in comment #143. [Bug 129910] Re: Blank ttys when using vesafb (vga=xxx)
Taupter : restricted modules and ubuntu modules are two packages which add drivers and modules to ubuntu. Most of laptops won't have sound working without these packages for your kernel, opening a new bug report for this is really not appropriate because you don't have necessary packages installed, this is not a bug. Alsa is the linux sound system, but this system won't use your sound card if the linux kernel does not have any drivers (modules) for it. Also, problem with sound cards is not a part of this bug which is about blank tty, this bug is closed. It would make more sense that you wait for the ubuntu-modules and restricted-modules to come for your kernel before opening a bug for this if the problem really persist. -- Blank ttys when using vesafb (vga=xxx) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/129910 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 198757] Re: ftdi_sio device does not work correctly as a normal user
Serial ports, even converted ones, should probably be in the dialout group (just like ttyS*). In theory, this should work already -- your device should have a ttyUSB0 device set up from the tty subsystem, and you should be able to access this. It looks to me like your program might be trying to communicate with the converter directly (rather than to the converter's serial port?) The rule you tried would only affect the /dev/bus/usb device, which is not normally used for serial communication. What does the program do? Is it some kind of firmware uploader or settings changing program? Could you do the following for me: 1) unplug the device and wait a few seconds 2) run from a terminal: sudo udevmonitor -e /tmp/udev.log 3) plug the device in, and wait a few seconds 4) stop the command 5) attach the resulting /tmp/udev.log file to this bug report Thanks ** Changed in: udev (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete ** Changed in: udev (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low -- ftdi_sio device does not work correctly as a normal user https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/198757 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
