[Bug 292788] Re: [i855] False Monitor Detection
Did some researching and got some news: I installed the Intel 2.5.1. driver from the ppa.launchpad.net Intel repository - it is not the newest one (as stated in my comment above) but... The sudden disconnects from X.org are still there. So there is still a chance that version 2.6.0. of the Intel driver may solve the problem. I personally will wait until it appears inside the mentioned repository. But better news: In this thread: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- intel/+bug/292761/comments/22 Cosmin Roman described a workaround: He disabled any other video output which xrandr is able to detect beside the LVDS (the built in Laptop screen) and this way he got (also) rid of the X crashing (so he stated this in his next comment). Sounds logical to me - but as I sometimes need different outputs it's not a premium solution, you know :) Greets, Herr Irrtum -- [i855] False Monitor Detection https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/292788 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 321839] [NEW] Intrepid: No GUI for ntfsfix and start of ntfsfix not being offered when unclean unmount error message comes
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ntfsprogs This is a common problem for the average user: You do not unmount a HDD cleanly from a Windows machine (because Windows has no problem with this HDD when you connect it to the Windows system the next time). You connect it to an Ubuntu machine. And Ubuntu tells you it refuses to mount this HDD because it has not been unmounted cleanly before. In case you do not have a Windows machine nearby to mount and cleanly unmount the HDD again, you have to fight with cryptic terminal commands to get the HDD going. ntfsfix offers a simpler command to solve this problem than the solution offered by Ubuntu's error message (to work with the letter you have to know Ubuntu drive name syntax). Unfortunately it has no GUI. Even more unfortunately, Ubuntu does not offer to one-click solve this problem using ntfsfix. If there was a one-click solution the use of NTFS drives would be less a horror for Ubuntu users. Are there any legal issues which would forbid to implement this feature? Seems that with ntfsfix the basic engine for this already there. This relates to Ubuntu 8.10 64-Bit and probably all prior Ubuntu versions. ** Affects: linux-ntfs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Intrepid: No GUI for ntfsfix and start of ntfsfix not being offered when unclean unmount error message comes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/321839 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 315782] Re: Change of capitalization in filenames on FAT32
I posed a question where to begin digging on the Linux kernel mailing list, the filesystem maintainer, OGAWA Hirofumi replied as below: This is known issue for case-insensitive fs. (BTW, CI is case- insensitive). To allow rename(filename, FILENAME), we have to fix two issues. One is vfs_rename(), it doesn't call -rename handler if inodes was same. Another one is fs handlers, it has to handle dentry-d_name change while someone is using it, and/or it has to care about dentry alias. Because, the inode of both of names is same, and dentry should/may be same. BTW, those is kernel side issues. There is some userland issues too (e.g. IIRC, mv command check stat-st_ino before call rename(2)). I also believe http://lxr.linux.no/linux+v2.6.28.2/fs/fat/namei_vfat.c#L53 is a key element to this bug. -- Change of capitalization in filenames on FAT32 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/315782 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 320874] Re: [asus] /sys/devices/virtual/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness has it backwards
Andy, the new kernel does not work for me. New behavior: + /sys/devices/virtual/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness seems to work accurately. + xbacklight -set works accurately - xbacklight does not read backlight values properly (it always returns 0.0) - Fn-brightness buttons don't work as they should: Pressing brightness down, brightness goes all the way to 0 and the osd. Brightness up, changes brightness level to 1. That's it, 0 and 1 for down and up. - gnome-power-manager brightness applet do not work properly Back when I filed the upstream bug report, the patch in http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12235 solved the issue for me. When my report was marked a duplicate, I was pointed to the patch here: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12249#c34, but haven't had time to try it. However, that patch is not the one you used for the new kernel: http://people.ubuntu.com/~apw/lp320874-jaunty/0001-ACPI- video-Fix-reversed-brightness-behavior-on-Thi.patch.
