I upgraded to Karmic yesterday and can comfirm this bug (also amd64). This is a workaround, that temporarily solves the problem for me: Open nautiuls and right click on a jpg-file. Choose Open with and select the last entry Other application. Then at the bottom you can set a user-defined application. In the line-edit type /usr/bin/gqview. This should open the image in gqview now. Right-click on a jpeg, select Properties and then Open with. Select the new entry gqview (without icon). [Bug 485856] [NEW] since update to karmic, evince does not print anymore
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince Since I updated to karmic, evince won't print anymore on my network printer (no printer available to test it locally). Whenever I try to print something in evince, everything seems fine, the jop is sent to the printer and a little printer icon appears in the notification area. However, the printer is not doing anything and after a while, the little printer icon disappears even though no printing has taken place. Unfortunately, there is no error message. Also, printing with other applications like okular or openoffice works just fine. Thus, I suspect the bug in evince. ** Affects: evince (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- since update to karmic, evince does not print anymore https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/485856 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Update... I can now resume from suspend properly, below is the list of actions that i had to take to achieve this. remove xserver-xorg-video-radeon remove xserver-xorg-video-ati Then visited these two links and chose the correct files for my architecture. https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/...g-video-radeon https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/...xorg-video-ati Installed the new Jaunty files, and my system is running as it should. [Bug 485488] Re: Game that uses ALSA's sound crackles/dies quickly in Karmic
** Description changed: Binary package hint: pulseaudio I'm assuming that ubuntu-bug adds all the technical information about my system, so I'll skip on that. In short, on Jaunty - sound from game was fine on default settings. On Karmic - sound 'crackles' at first, and then eventually just dies. No sound coming from game at all. Checking pavucontrol, it's not emitting any sound. Nothing changed with the game. The game will also hang on exit until I kill the games output stream in pavucontrol. (the hang on exit is caused by snd_pcm_writei hanging (gets stuck in a blocking poll in libasound)) Now, nobody really knows what's going on, so I'll just dump all that I know at first. The problem is somewhere in the alsa-PA layer. Changing the games sound buffer to be 4*4096 fixed the problem for me (what changes is that snd_pcm_hw_params_set_buffer_size_near gets passed a larger value) It's affecting certain HDA Intel sound chipsets (not all HDA intel). Mangler project says that the default latency changed: http://www.mangler.org/2009/10/two-major-fixes-today/ There are many people on the games forum with this issue, although I can't give direct links as its in closed beta. [Bug 485867] [NEW] can't change printer setting in kubuntu karmic
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace My karmic kubuntu ssystem is connected to several printers via the LPD/LPR protocol. These printer are listed when I click on the menu System-Setting/printer-configuration/Server-Setting and check the box display shared printer and sharing printers However, there is no way to change the printer-setup. In particular, printing is always one-sides, while all these printer are full-duplex and normally do double-side printing, as prevuoissly (in kde3) Note that normally changing (even adding) printer requires superuser privilege. But there is no button to become superuser. Hence all printer options are greyout meaning that it is impossible to change. The oly permissible change is to define the default printer ! [Bug 485880] [NEW] apport-collect fails to discourage users from sending results to random bugs
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: apport apport-collect is a very useful tool for submitting additional requested information against an existing bug. And it is very annoying when random people use it to submit irrelevant information to bugs that have nothing to do with them. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/466775 is an example of this. Three different people have gotten it into their heads (probably due to a post on some forum somewhere which I haven't been able to locate) that it's a good idea to run apport-collect against a bug that: - they didn't submit - they're not subscribed to - is marked as a duplicate It is my firm belief that users who aren't already involved in Ubuntu (they have karma, or are the submitter, or are a member of the bug triage or development teams) shouldn't have access to make such drive-by comments in Launchpad. But barring that, I think apport-collect should not facilitate them doing this.
