[Bug 485847] [NEW] nautilus won't display dir contents of mounted windows share

2009-11-20 Thread Jacques Fuentes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Release:
Description:Ubuntu 9.10
Release:9.10

Pkg Version:
nautilus:
  Installed: 1:2.28.1-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 1:2.28.1-0ubuntu2
  Version table:

 1:2.28.1-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages

Nautilus will not display the directory contents of a mounted windows 2003
share. I have a top level directory from an E drive on the 2003 machine mounted
to ~/mnt/dir. When I do an ls ~/mnt/c_web, ls displays the directory
contents, but also displays an error msg:

ls c_web
ls: cannot access c_web/pagefile.sys: Text file busy

It seems like nautlius cannot display the directory listing because of
the pagefile.sys being busy. When I access the share directly into a
specified directory using: ~/mnt/c_web/php - it will list all of the
contents of that directory.

Here's the mount point in /etc/fstab:

//wmciweb/C$ /home/jfuentes/mnt/c_web smbfs
user=**,password=**,uid=1000,gid=1000

[Bug 485830] Re: power manager fails to hibeernate screen saver is not working

2009-11-20 Thread Charlie Kravetz
This bug report is being closed as invalid. If you have not performed a
standard installation of Xubuntu, please insure you install the
necessary applications before filing a bug report. If Xfce4-power-
manager is not installed, it can not control hibernate, suspend, or
other power saving functions of your computer. Please install Xfce4
-power-manager.

You must also have the screensaver installed. However, bug 397892 is
known and reported, Screensaver does not turn on [Xubuntu Karmic].

Well if you would do it exactly like I said then the whole `if

To get output how the 05_debian_theme gets actually executed change the
`-e' to `-ex' in the first line of it.

[Bug 424300] Re: gqview crashed with SIGSEGV in g_main_context_dispatch() amd64

2009-11-20 Thread Christian Maier
I upgraded to Karmic yesterday and can comfirm this bug (also amd64).

This is a workaround, that temporarily solves the problem for me: Open
nautiuls and right click on a jpg-file. Choose Open with and select
the last entry Other application. Then at the bottom you can set a
user-defined application. In the line-edit type /usr/bin/gqview. This
should open the image in gqview now.

Right-click on a jpeg, select Properties and then Open with. Select
the new entry gqview (without icon). This sets your new gqview to
the default application for jpeg-Files.

[Bug 298685] Re: tellico does not import data from audio-CD in CD-Drive

2009-11-20 Thread kibuntu
Hi puppet!

Until yesterday there was no solution in sight. In Karmic the newest
release of Tellico (2.0) is not included and with the 1.3.5 release the
amazon search is not available any more.

But I found out that the new release is in a ppa at
https://launchpad.net/~mieszkoslusarczyk/+archive/kde-extras-snapshots.
I added this repository to my software packeges (I'm not sure about this
term because I use Ubuntu in german; it is Software-Paketquellen
there). I then updated Tellico in Synaptic and:

It works absolutely fine!!!

Not only the CD-import is o.k., the amazon internet search works as
well.

[Bug 485857] [NEW] BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 00000000000000a0

2009-11-20 Thread Ypthor
Public bug reported:

I loop-mounted a backup image (created with dd) of an xfs filesystem, and did
some copying, deleting. It all went well for some time, then suddenly mc
reported some error and the image file has been umounted or something. I was
unable to mount it again. Mount returned with a wrong fs type/bad superblock
error, even if I specified xfs. Somewhere around this time I noticed the crash
sign and reported it. I had two such files, one of them I managed to handle
flawlessly, but with this second one I was unlucky.
The files were ~10GB in size.

Sorry to hear that... It had worked for me. Please try to put eth0 (or
whatever your NIC is called) into afpd.conf like

eth0
- -ipaddr your.ip.address.her

These are the two most common problems with nbp_rgstr not working

[Bug 485852] [NEW] package grub-pc 1.97~beta4-1ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2009-11-20 Thread gerrit
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub2

While updating via the 'Update Manager' after a fresh installation of
9.10, the 'configuring grub... this may take a while' was taking a long
while. I let it sit for about 3 hours and when I returned no progress
was made. So I restarted the system and went into recovery mode and
performed repair damaged packages. Once logged in again, a message
popped up indicating there was an error with the grub update.

If you need any data from log or config files, please let me know which
ones and I will post them as soon as possible. Im just not really sure
which ones would be of help (kind of new to this OS).

[Bug 485856] [NEW] since update to karmic, evince does not print anymore

2009-11-20 Thread Uwe Schilling
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Since I updated to karmic, evince won't print anymore on my network
printer (no printer available to test it locally). Whenever I try to
print something in evince, everything seems fine, the jop is sent to the
printer and a little printer icon appears in the notification area.
However, the printer is not doing anything and after a while, the little
printer icon disappears even though no printing has taken place.
Unfortunately, there is no error message. Also, printing with other
applications like okular or openoffice works just fine. Thus, I suspect
the bug in evince.

[Bug 468850] Re: [Vostro 1000] Resume fails after suspend/hibernate

2009-11-20 Thread xeno_phile
Update...
I can now resume from suspend properly, below is the list of actions that i had
to take to achieve this.
remove xserver-xorg-video-radeon
remove xserver-xorg-video-ati
Then visited these two links and chose the correct files for my architecture.
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/...g-video-radeon
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/...xorg-video-ati
Installed the new Jaunty files, and my system is running as it should.
One can only assume the Karmic files are broken somewhere, until the Karmic
files are repaired i have to prevent the Jaunty files from being updated.
My thanks go to
 lamaistres http://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=61667
 for providing the solution.

[Bug 485488] Re: Game that uses ALSA's sound crackles/dies quickly in Karmic

2009-11-20 Thread Vadim Peretokin
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: pulseaudio

I'm assuming that ubuntu-bug adds all the technical information about my
system, so I'll skip on that.

In short, on Jaunty - sound from game was fine on default settings.

On Karmic - sound 'crackles' at first, and then eventually just dies. No
sound coming from game at all. Checking pavucontrol, it's not emitting
any sound. Nothing changed with the game. The game will also hang on
exit until I kill the games output stream in pavucontrol. (the hang on
exit is caused by snd_pcm_writei hanging (gets stuck in a blocking poll
  in libasound))

Now, nobody really knows what's going on, so I'll just dump all that I
  know at first.

The problem is somewhere in the alsa-PA layer.

Changing the games sound buffer to be 4*4096 fixed the problem for me
(what changes is that snd_pcm_hw_params_set_buffer_size_near gets
  passed a larger value)

It's affecting certain HDA Intel sound chipsets (not all HDA intel).

Mangler project says that the default latency changed:
  http://www.mangler.org/2009/10/two-major-fixes-today/

There are many people on the games forum with this issue, although I
can't give direct links as its in closed beta. But here are various
things people have posted, that worked for some, and not for others:

[Bug 485867] [NEW] can't change printer setting in kubuntu karmic

2009-11-20 Thread Dinh-Tuan Pham
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

My karmic kubuntu ssystem is connected to several printers via the
LPD/LPR protocol. These printer are listed when I click on the menu
System-Setting/printer-configuration/Server-Setting and check the box
display shared printer and sharing printers

However, there is no way to change the printer-setup. In particular, printing
is always one-sides, while all these printer are full-duplex and normally
do double-side printing, as prevuoissly (in kde3)

Note that normally changing (even adding) printer requires superuser privilege.
But there is no button to become superuser. Hence all printer options are
greyout meaning that it is impossible to change. The oly permissible change
is to define the default printer !

[Bug 485880] [NEW] apport-collect fails to discourage users from sending results to random bugs

2009-11-20 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apport

apport-collect is a very useful tool for submitting additional requested
information against an existing bug. And it is very annoying when
random people use it to submit irrelevant information to bugs that have
nothing to do with them.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/466775 is an example
of this. Three different people have gotten it into their heads (probably due
to a post on some forum somewhere which I haven't been able to locate) that
it's a good idea to run apport-collect against a bug that:
- they didn't submit
- they're not subscribed to
- is marked as a duplicate

It is my firm belief that users who aren't already involved in Ubuntu
(they have karma, or are the submitter, or are a member of the bug
triage or development teams) shouldn't have access to make such drive-by
comments in Launchpad. But barring that, I think apport-collect should
not facilitate them doing this.

ProblemType: Bug
ApportLog:

Architecture: amd64

[Bug 298685] Re: tellico does not import data from audio-CD in CD-Drive

2009-11-20 Thread puppet
Hi Kibuntu!

It works! Of course you have to set the cd device correctly (cdrom1
instead of the default cdrom in my case) but it definitely works now!

So I think this confirm the fact that it was a Tellico bug/problem, and
not a Ubuntu one

I love you and all the f**king great Linux comunity!
