[Bug 475814] Re: vpnc will only connect successfully on first try per session

2009-11-28 Thread pat.pannuto
I replied to the bug email with this last night, but it looks like it
didn't post - not sure why - sorry for the delay:

I haven't been consistently tracking the vpn'd IP, tried it now:

First
   wlan0 192.168.2.101
   tun0   141.211.4.17

Second
   wlan0 192.168.2.101
   tun0   141.211.4.17

This is connecting to the University of Michigan's campus network ( vpn
profiles available here:
http://www.itcom.itcs.umich.edu/vpn/software/linux.html ); it's kerberos
on the backend, so it's the same password every time.

[Bug 489485] [NEW] Make it clear that -proposed is less safe than -backports

2009-11-28 Thread Scott Ritchie
Public bug reported:

Currently it is too easy to select the proposed repository without
realizing that it contains potential regressions (as uploads are
untested). Similarly, backports is a bit too scary as it's
"unsupported", when in truth it's about as well supported as universe
(ie "supported by the community"). The text should be updated to
something a bit more helpful.

[Bug 363738] Re: Wireless (WPA) connection is not stable

2009-11-28 Thread Lukáš
Hi,
I'm registering similar bug. I have 9.10 on laptop with Intel 3945ABG wifi
card. When I connect to WEP or WPA network, after a short while connection
losts. Connection to not secured network is stable. I also tried wicd manager
and with it I did not recognize any problem with WPA or WEP. My opinion is that
connection losts due to network-manager's AP scan during connection (look at
log).

Sorry if I didn't attach needed logs etc.

Thanks.

[Bug 489487] [NEW] libproxy0 0.2.3-0ubuntu5 needs to be rebuilt

2009-11-28 Thread rojer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libproxy0

ro...@nbx:~/Local$ ldd /usr/lib/libproxy/0.2.3/plugins/webkit.so
linux-gate.so.1 =>  (0x00627000)
libwebkit-1.0.so.1 => not found
[...]

this is because libwebkit has been updated and minor version got bumped
to 2:

ro...@nbx:~/Local$ ll /usr/lib/libwebkit-1.0.so.*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root   23 2009-10-29 22:56 /usr/lib/libwebkit-1.0.so.2 ->
libwebkit-1.0.so.2.11.2
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 12948624 2009-10-15 12:46
/usr/lib/libwebkit-1.0.so.2.11.2

libproxy does not directly depend on libwebkit, which is probably why this
wasn't picked up when webkit was updated.
simple recompile should be sufficient to fix this.

[Bug 489489] [NEW] Panel icon should not react to only mouse click

2009-11-28 Thread Lukáš
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: policykit-1-gnome

Hi,

in my opinion, policykit's "remove gained permissions" icon on panel
should not do it only by clicking to it. I think that when user saw the
icon, he would be interested in what the icon mean and he may click to
it. But it can immediately broke some processes eg software update.

My proposal is to make simple dialog with question like "do you really
want to ..." when mouse clicked on the icon.

Thanks.

[Bug 488443] Re: lirc_imon devices need to be added to usbhid module quirks

2009-11-28 Thread Justin Seubert
After investigation of this, a patch has already been committed upstream
in linux-2.6:

http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=31f7fd795d17b264c3c05e4a976f963012c17c68

This has been pulled into the ubuntu-lucid tree as well. I am not
exactly sure how this works, but is there anyways to have this synced or
committed to the ubuntu-karmic tree?

[Bug 418984] Re: Online media streams that use WMA2 WMAS audio codec do not play

2009-11-28 Thread Reinhard Tartler
ffmpeg itself can playback wmav2 material for years (modulo various kind
of broken encoders). See http://wiki.multimedia.cx/index.php?title=WMA2
for more information on that codec.

btw, it would really help if you would attach a proper sample file that
we can test. surfing to a javascript and advertisment overloaded website
is not appropriate for a bug with the current bugtitle.

[Bug 489491] [NEW] no fallback for failing xorg

2009-11-28 Thread chris_c
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

If for any reason xorg fails to start, you get caught in a loop as gdm
repeatedly tried to start xorg

At some point it should fall back to a console to allow a fix or even have some
console based menu
to allow none technical people to select possible solutions - some kind of
"safe mode" xorg config would
be useful...

As it stand I was forced to boot from cd and manually mount and fix the
problem boot media

How on earth is a non technical Ubuntu user supposed to deal with xorg
problems?

[Bug 489497] [NEW] timer_delete does not cancel the thread to run the function

2009-11-28 Thread Angelo Borsotti
Public bug reported:

timer_create(), when told to run a function at time expiration, creates
immediately an ancillary thread
(it could have created it when armed, or even better, when expired). When the
timer is deleted, the
ancillary thread does not get cancelled. Not even if it was created as
detached. That ancillary thread
must instead be terminated, otherwise it wastes resources (and prevents the
process to terminate
normally).
Program that shows it:

#include
#include
#include
#include
#include
#include
#include

// enumerate all threads of this process
static void listthreads(char* str){
printf("threads %s\n",str);
char buf[100];
sprintf(buf,"/proc/%d/task",getpid());
DIR* dir = opendir(buf);
int len = offsetof(struct dirent,d_name) +
pathconf(buf,_PC_NAME_MAX) + 1;
struct dirent* entryp;
entryp = malloc(len);
struct dirent* res;
for (;;){
readdir_r(dir,entryp,&res);
if (res == NULL) break;
if (entryp->d_name[0] == '.') continue;
printf("%s\n",entryp->d_name);
}
closedir(dir);
printf("end of list\n");
}

void timerfunction(sigval_t sigval){
}

int main(int argc, char* argv[]){
printf("main %d\n",getpid());

event.sigev_notify = SIGEV_THREAD;
event.sigev_notify_function = timerfunction;
event.sigev_notify_attributes = NULL;
event.sigev_value.sival_ptr = (void*)pthread_self();

Thank you. Since I could not properly reproduce this on Ubuntu 9.10, I
didn't want to send this upstream; this only clutters the upstream bug
tracker. Let's wait for someone else to confirm this or upstream to
respond.

[Bug 489499] [NEW] An issue with rpc.mountd's --manage-gids option makes NFS operations hang

2009-11-28 Thread Fluor
Public bug reported:

Hardy and possibly Intrepid are affected by a bug in rpc.mountd's
--manage-gids option.

This was fixed upstream somewhere between nfs-utils version 1.1.3 and
1.1.4.  The problem is that mountd in nfs-utils <= 1.1.2 returns a
negative response if there are no GIDs found for the UID on the server.
The patch to rpc.mountd is trivial and makes it return a zero-length
list which the kernel will handle correctly.

Even though --manage-gids isn't switched on by default until Jaunty this
bug should really be fixed as it completely breaks NFS-operation and
there is really no logmessage indicating what is going on. The --manage-gids
option is advertised in manpages.

The patch to this problem was committed to the nfs-utils git repository
in commit 86c3a79a108091fe08869a887438cc2d4e1126ed

My thread on linux-nfs about this issue shows my difficulties tracing
the problem: http://marc.info/?t=12584725381&r=1&w=2

J. Bruce Fields helped track it down to the commit above in this
message: http://marc.info/?l=linux-nfs&m=125934869022070&w=2

Attached is said commit to the git-repository as shown in Bruce's reply.

[Bug 465895] Re: BUG: Bad page state in process totem-video-thu pfn:5e25d

2009-11-28 Thread quill7111
I recently noticed a similar problem involving swap and totem-video-thu
under Karmic. When transferring a video file over samba to my computer
desktop (meaning that the thumbnailer is trying to create a thumbnail
for an incomplete file as it downloads), the transfer will stall while
the thumbnailer jumps up to 10-15% CPU and starts writing furiously to
my swap space. Admittedly, the computer is old (Pentium 4 with 256MB ram
and a 500MB swap partition), but this behavior seems to be a problem.
I've also been following another swap bug having to do with pulseaudio
(launchpad 424655) that I think might also be affecting my system, but
this behavior manifesting during file transfers seems specifically
related to the thumbnailer. I've never reported a bug before, so please
let me know what logs I should attach (and how best to get at them...)

[Bug 489503] [NEW] libgdl < 2.28.2 is broken with client-side windows (gtk+ 2.18)

2009-11-28 Thread Johannes Schmid
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgdl-1-3

The new cient-side window support in gtk+ 2.18 revealed some bugs in
libgdl causing a lot of Gtk-Criticals (that probably result in crashes
later).

Upstream bug report: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=597417
Upstream commit:
http://git.gnome.org/cgit/gdl/commit/?id=5a68071359e9a001e77fcb7c406960e3bd26098d

This was released in the stable 2.28.2 tarball available from
download.gnome.org. I would really encourage you to update the package
in Ubuntu to the latest version.

Thanks!
