[Bug 516915] Re: grub-pc configuration fails during update

2010-02-04 Thread Colin Watson
Heh, there's an obvious UI deficiency here. You weren't supposed to
choose all of the sda options, just the top-level one (/dev/sda, not
/dev/sda1 etc.). I agree that the message is confusing. I wonder if
choosing both partitions and disks contributed to this bug; it certainly
wasn't something I'd tested and it isn't a normal thing to do.

2010-02-04 Thread Torsten Spindler
Quite possible, the students are instructed to create a key called
'mykey' in the exercise. With this the problem can be reproduced:

$ euca-add-keypair mykey2  mykey2.priv
$ euca-add-keypair mykey2  mykey2.priv
$ euca-run-instances -t c1.medium -k mykey2 emi-DF481077
$ ssh -i mykey2.priv 172.24.129.128

OK. Did it. Output is completely distorted. Screen updates are not done

characters are not drawn --- only the cursor is moving. i have to
minimize the windows, then restore it again to have a look at what I
where typing...

[Bug 516935] Re: upgraded from ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10, file can't sync

2010-02-04 Thread duanedesign
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 462828 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/462828

johan,
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Sorry you are having problems with Ubuntu One. It looks like you are
still running Ubuntu One from Jaunty. To fix this open a Terminal
(Applications Accesories Terminal) and run the following:

sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade

If you have not ran an update since you moved to Karmic you might have
quite a few other packages that will update as well. After the update
you will need to quit and then restart your Ubuntu One Client.

This particular bug has already been reported and is a duplicate of bug
462828, so it is being marked as such. Please look at the other bug
report to see if there is any missing information that you can provide,
or to see if there is a workaround for the bug. Additionally, any
further discussion regarding the bug should occur in the other report.
Feel free to continue to report any other bugs you may find.

thank you,
duanedesign

Re: [Bug 194271] Re: 'acdsee pro 2' doesn't start with wine

2010-02-04 Thread quentin
Hi,

Indeed, I installed Virtualbox with Windows xp in Linux to be able to
use ACDSEE and NX Captures.
It seems that wine cannot launch and/or run these two programs.
It will be necessary to wait for the new version of wine

i have a similar problem starting ACDSee Pro 2.5 in Wine, it just does not
 start.
It is part of the Wine menu but does not run. When it was installed there
 were 2 or 3 errors.
I am new to Ubuntu so I am not sure what can be done here to get my
 application running smoothly. Thanks

[Bug 516506] Re: Failure on getcwd when make invoked with -C option

2010-02-04 Thread Alexey Rodriguez Yakushev
The directory is not a symlink and we reproduced the bug in two
workstations with three different accounts. However we just realized
this is NFS related. If this test is carried out locally it works, when
run on an NFS share, it breaks.

Note that although this could be an NFS bug we only saw problems with
make, so perhaps it is still a make bug?

The NFS version of the client:

[Bug 516946] [NEW] pdumpfs omits extra files when --exclude is used on certian large directory trees

2010-02-04 Thread Pallinger Péter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pdumpfs

I hit together a small script to test this behaviour:

SRC=/home; mkdir -p /tmp/dump/; pdumpfs -n --exclude 'fjhrqwphfeuiqwph'
$SRC /tmp/dump/ |cut -c14- | sort /tmp/1 ; find $SRC | sort | diff -
/tmp/1|less

The output should be empty, except if you do have a file called
'fjhrqwphfeuiqwph'. :)
You can test that by removing the --exclude option, the difference disappears.
Interestingly, the error is produced for /home and /proc (for proc, not only
the since ended and started processes account for the difference), but it is
not produced for /usr, /lib, /var, /dev and /sys. I am yet to find a small
directory tree that produces the error, it is maybe due to some special kinds
of files, or some files changing during the pdumpfs process, etc.

Upon inserting some debug messages into the recursive_copy function (see
below), it seems that the files are not excluded, but are not in the internal
list of files at all (there was no output beginning with 'excluding:').
if @matcher.exclude?(s)
  wprintf(excluding?: %s, s)

I got somewhat stuck, as I am not familiar with ruby. I may investigate
further if I will have the time, but any help would be welcome (e.g.
results of running the above script at your machines, etc.).

[Bug 509095] Re: SystemError: unknown opcode - /usr/lib/python2.6/posixpath.py:59

2010-02-04 Thread Loïc Minier
You're hitting unknown opcode errors when compiling core files of
python2.6; this is really odd, it suggests to me either .pyc files are
being corrupted, or .pyc files were built from a more recent version of
python than the one running them.

I suspect your system is massively broken at this point; it would
probably be a good idea to reinstall at least the core python packages
likes python2.6-minimal and python2.6 and work upwards.

[Bug 516948] Re: Kerberized nfs mounts not handled properly

2010-02-04 Thread Timo Aaltonen
** Description changed:

- I've got NFS-shares in fstab with sec=krb5, but they are not mounted
+ I've got NFS-shares in fstab with sec=krb5i, but they are not mounted
properly on boot. I can see all the pending mount processes that are
hung, and rpc.gssd isn't running ('start gssd' manually works). I guess
mountall-net is what tries to mount them, but gssd isn't run so it
  fails.

[Bug 516412] Re: Pressing Enter causes the system to freeze

2010-02-04 Thread itismike
Happens for me using 32-bit w/nvidia on a Latitude D630. It's as if the Enter
key was remapped to a system freeze function. I can log in and do many tasks
using the mouse to click through confirmation dialogs, but as soon as I hit the
Enter key, be it at the terminal or to press a highlighted button, the system
freezes and cannot be recovered. Only holding down the power button will power
it off (I did not try the alt-sysRq+b sequence.)
Removed the plymouth package through aptitude in the recovery console and now
it's fine.

[Bug 516958] [NEW] Plymouth not always displaying right

2010-02-04 Thread exploder91
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: plymouth

I am running Ubuntu Lucid 64 bit fully updated to February, 4th, 2010
4:07 am US eastern time.

Sometimes when I start the pc, Plymouth will display 3 Ubuntu logos
across the top of the screen instead of the usual 1. The problem is
cosmetic only. I am using on-board Intel graphics with a 25 HP HDMI
flat screen LCD monitor. I am guessing that Plymouth is not using the
correct screen resolution consistently.

I listed this under Plymouth but there were updates to xserver, grub-pc
and compiz in the group of updates I installed when the problem started
showing up. This could possibly be an xserver related issue but I was
unsure which specif package to list this under.

2010-02-04 Thread Kurt Stephens
Neither 2.6.31-17-generic, 2.6.31-16-generic, or 2.6.31-19-generic will
suspend or hibernate on a Dell m4400 when a user is logged in via gdm.
I'm running swap off a separate partition.

No errors appear in the /var/log/pm-suspend.log. I have a suspicion
this is not a kernel problem. But I'm going to try installing some
other older kernels. This used to work fine.

BTW: I reinstalled grub boot loader: that appeared to have fixed the
weird -pae problems.

[Bug 409819] Re: [regression] Built-in mic not working after pulse updates on Karmic. Intel 82801H (ICH8 Family) sound card.

2010-02-04 Thread TheGhost
Hi All,

I found a solution at other bug reports regarding the same issue. A
solution for my mic problems was:

1.) install the linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic package
2.) then do a reboot
3.) After reboot start alsamixer (e.g. via terminal)
4.) Ensure that the microfon mixer, for me it was called capture (not the mic
boost) is set to 100%
5.) Leave alsamixer with ESC and run the audio-recorder to test

Maybe it is a help for you too. ;)

I've tried all the latest mainline kernels up to and including 2.6.33rc6

if anyone could point me at what to try next.

[Bug 516691] Re: budget report with multi years only show one year of budget

2010-02-04 Thread Hei Ku
Sorry, I meant multiple budgets, not reports.
And budgets are not regular values. For instance, you can have multiple budgets
for the same year, and you have no way, at the moment, to select the default
budget for each year.
This will be implemented at some point, but for now, it is the way it is.

Maintainers, please close this bug or change it to wishlist.

[Bug 516979] [NEW] gnome-volume-control-applet (root user)

2010-02-04 Thread muawijhe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

1) After last upgrade ( 3 Feb 2010) the gnome-volume-control-applet is
disappeared!
I tried to kill and restart and I got:

r...@muawijhe-dsea:~# gnome-volume-control-applet --debug
** (gnome-volume-control-applet:6724): DEBUG: Enabling debugging
** (gnome-volume-control-applet:6724): DEBUG: Connecting..

and nothing more...

However, the sound system is working properly!

2) I can't modify the volume by acting on the keyboard shortcuts...

It seems that these problems affect the user root only. Other users can modify
easily and they see the applet as well.

I tried to remove all the gnome/pulseaudio/etc settings in the root
folder but without success.

Let me know why this is happening :)

Best regards,

Vincenzo
