[Bug 366728] Re: LD_LIBRARY_PATH not loading from .profile nor /etc/environment

2010-02-05 Thread Joe Kilner
Digging around a bit I wonder if this is the issue:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/380360

So when you login, .profile is sourced. Then everything is parented to
ssh-agent (I assume to inherit the environment variables that it sets)
but as that is setuid, LD_LIBRARY_PATH is reset for security reasons.

However the usecase for wanting a per-user (i.e. not system wide) local
prefix for development libraries is pretty valid. I don't want other
users on the machine to be picking up my libraries when they run stuff,
but I do want the setting to be session wide so it is picked up by
applications I load from the command line.

[Bug 517701] [NEW] ntpd apparmor rule does not allow reading dhcp based config

2010-02-05 Thread Saku Ytti
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ntp

Configuration file is located in /var/lib/ntp/ntp.conf.dhcp but
/etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.ntpd does not allow reading it, it does allow
reading /etc/ntp.conf.dhcp though, so it is unclear if file is generated
in wrong location or if apparmor should allow reading this location, my
guess is apparmor should be updated.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 401294 ***

I've found a workaround (you probably know but just incase), completely
remove the top panel where the applets are, reboot (or restart desktop
environment), make a new panel and add everything back on it again.

[Bug 473000] Re: AD1984a enters power save and never wakes up

2010-02-05 Thread Mark Kirkpatrick
I am experiencing the same effects on a server system Ubuntu Karmic with
the pre-release ( To fix USB TTY issues ) 2.6.31-18-55 I have a MythTV
server system that I finally tracked back to the power save (I believe).
I can watch and use recordings during testing but those things set to
record late at night were recording without sound. I have used 2
different sound cards now.

hda_intel ( I also applied both powersave options in /etc/modprobe.d
/alsa-base.conf ) I cannot comment out the lines or I will get
rearranged sound cards, I have M-Audio 7.1, Divco HDTV gold 5,Internal
HDA_Intel.

I gave up on the internal HDA_Intel since the options had no effect. I
switched to the M-Audio ( ICE7124 ) and I an seeing the same issue. This
leads me to believe it is a core ALSA power save problem ( I still need
to try the power save options on the ICE1724 )

I have downloaded and installed the latest ALSA Sources with no
improvement 1.22 I believe. I am looking for a way to completely disable
the powersave settings.

[Bug 286098] Re: 8.10 64bit: ustream.tv and 12seconds.tv do not work properly

2010-02-05 Thread melissawm
Ok, just to update on this bug, I managed to get ustream to work in a
Kubuntu Karmic 64bit box so here it goes. Found these instructions in
the webcamstudio webpage (http://www.ws4gl.org/):

Go to
http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager06.html

Set ustream and everything else you want to always allow.

It's an ugly workaround, there are privacy issues with it, but at least
it gets ustream to work. Video and sound streaming now work perfectly
from here.

[Bug 178173] Re: Font problems with .tex files and special (danish) characters

2010-02-05 Thread richard laurenson
I am using Lyx which uses texlive, on Ubuntu 9.10. Locality Rome, but US
English by default.

I have one file that compiles Fine... Typed everything myself in Lyx
and it has for language setting UNICODE (ucs -Extended) (utf8x)

Another file, Which I wrote in OO and copied pasted gives the error
Package inputenc Error: Unicode char \u8:  not set up for use with LaTeX.

I exported from OO to .txt and imported after replacing all the with plain
asci in gedit and got this error
Could not find LaTeX command for character '' (code point 0x2060)

This is under UNICODE UTF8 or the extended option above

If I paste the offending text into the working file I get this error
Package ucs Error: Unknown Unicode character 8288 = U+2060,
Description
 by step,”2
There was no regular shipping service into this part of
Unicode character 8288 = U+2060:
WORD JOINER
Character is not defined in uni-*.def files.
Enter I!RET to define the glyph.

Now For me this is not critical, as I am only playing... but it is curious.
There is this post maybee worth looking at on topic

[Bug 465030] Re: Bandwith limit preference doesn't appear to be saved

2010-02-05 Thread Joshua Hoover
Roman found that the fields only appear to save when focus is removed
from the input field. So, if you set the upload and download inputs and
take focus (mouse off) the fields after changing the value, they should
save properly. This is not proper behavior but at least gives us an idea
of what is really going on. It's not that one field saves properly and
another does not.

[Bug 506242] Re: can sell more than stock

2010-02-05 Thread Miguel Chavez Gamboa
I have fixed this bug. It was also present on lemonpos-0.9 version.

The new release will contain this fix (0.9.1).
For now, the src on my launchpad branch for persa is updated. Also at the git
repo there is the persa branch.

One more thing:
This branch contains another new feature: Shows on screen the sale taxes and
prints on tickets. To make this possible I modified the database (added
fields). Its important to add those changes to your database if you install
this new version by running cat fix_0.9.sql | mysql -uroot -p inside the
database_resources/ folder. Note that fhis file could be modified (added more
changes) in the future until the 0.9.1 release.

My launchapd branch for persa is:

[Bug 457147] Re: BadTransition: SYS_CONNECTION_MADE - Ubuntu One crashes coming out of sleep/hibernate

2010-02-05 Thread Roman Yepishev
I have tested this with ubuntuone client 1.0.3-0ubuntu1 (karmic-
proposed).

The syncdaemon does not crash anymore when the system returns from
suspend.

However, in case a file is being uploaded while computer is suspended
then syncdaemon becomes stuck in
STANDOFF_WAITING_WITH_NETWORK_WITH_BOTH state. It does not upload the
old file and new files do not get uploaded as well. This is a separate
bug #487257.

Also, a min upload of 64 kB is really 64 * 8 = 512 kilobites per
second. Most people do not calculate data transfer in kiloBytes and
also 512 kilobites is still faster than the max. uplink on many dls
routers, so therefore no throttling is achieved.

[Bug 435352] Re: regression: uvcvideo module makes cannot reset port error on usb with bison webcam (5986:0203): USB and suspend fails

Yes. Webcam is not working at all. Bluetooth is not working if it's
switched off at boot. Any usb device that is not already plugged in at
boot will not work. (usb hotplug not working).

Basically, it's exactly the same bug. I think the patch that fixed this

 Bug description:
(This bug report supersedes bug #427327)

On my MSI Wind with bison webcam (5986:0203) most of the time I boot
karmic (2.6.31-10.35 kernel) I get these error in dmesg:

 [ 18.861916] ehci_hcd :00:1d.7: force halt; handhake f8046424 4000

  - -110
 [ 18.877866] hub 1-0:1.0: cannot reset port 6 (err = -108)
 [ 18.877882] hub 1-0:1.0: cannot reset port 6 (err = -108)
 [ 18.877893] hub 1-0:1.0: cannot reset port 6 (err = -108)
 [ 18.877904] hub 1-0:1.0: cannot reset port 6 (err = -108)
 [ 18.877913] hub 1-0:1.0: cannot reset port 6 (err = -108)
[ 18.877921] hub 1-0:1.0: Cannot enable port 6. Maybe the USB
 cable is bad?

As a consequence the system will fail to suspend and recognize USB
mass storage devices, which is a main problem.

Further investigation shows it only happens when the uvcvideo module
 is loaded.

System works well if uvcvideo is not loaded, either by disabling the
webcam before rebooting (FN+F6) or by blacklisting the uvcvideo
 module in /etc/modconf.d/.

If I blacklist uvcvideo and load it manually after boot (modprobe)
the same thing happens: most of the time I get cannot reset port
error and USB storage and suspend is non-functional from then on.

In very rare occasions (1 in 10 or less) the system loads uvcvideo
and does not give cannot reset port errors and all suspend, USB
 storage and webcam are functional.

This is a regression since it does not happen with ubuntu 9.04: I
have used 9.04 for months before and it also works well if I boot
 with 9.04-netbook-remix usb image.

Considering that the MSI Wind and its several clones are quite
popular and that this bug will make suspend and USB unfunctional, it
may have a quite big impact on ubuntu users, specially the netbook-
 remix friends.

[Bug 517713] [NEW] Unmet Dependencies

2010-02-05 Thread Jon Arnold
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: frescobaldi

In Lucid, when I try to install frescobaldi I get the following output:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
frescobaldi: Depends: python-kde4 (= 4:4.0.2) but it is not going to be
installed
E: Broken packages

Also,
  python-kde4: Depends: python-qt4 ( 4.7.0-0ubuntu1+~) but 4.7.0-2ubuntu1 is
to be installed
   Depends: python-sip4 ( 4.10.0-0ubuntu1+~) but 4.10.0-2ubuntu1
is to be installed

I assume this is part of some transition, but I just wanted to flag this
application.

[Bug 457147] Re: BadTransition: SYS_CONNECTION_MADE - Ubuntu One crashes coming out of sleep/hibernate

I've also verified that it no longer crashes resuming from suspend. I

that there is some connection.
