[Bug 640807] Re: Forces low refresh rate on CRT monitor
We can't set turn_on_external_monitors_at_startup to True again. We already had that, and it causes external monitors to get powered off. This means that you can't use a docked laptop with an external monitor any more, since we don't have any cleverness to detect whether the lid is closed at startup and the internal screen should be powered off (this is because of too many buggy BIOSes, not because we couldn't implement it). So it seems that both settings cause problems. Can't we just entirely disable this xrandr messing by default? On normal single-screen settings, KMS and X should already care about the resolution, and any mode change that we introduce will not only be prone to misconfigure your screens, but also introduce major startup latencies and thus slow down boot. ** Summary changed: - Forces low refresh rate on CRT monitor + automatic xrandr module misconfigures monitors ** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu Maverick) Assignee: (unassigned) => Canonical Desktop Team (canonical-desktop-team) -- automatic xrandr module misconfigures monitors https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/640807 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 654515] Re: Dual-head setup only possible with stacked screen combination
Hi Dave, I'm not sure I subscribe to this explanation. I had Lucid Lynx running on this very same laptop and panel, and that was working without a hitch. To be honest, I ran Kubuntu on that at the time, but technically this all seems to work, it's just that Ubuntu doesn't take advantage. I will re-test this using Kubuntu, to see if it works there. Re: [Bug 652791] Re: Network disconnected during connman upgrade
Mathieu Trudel writes: > Hi Kalle, Hi Mathieu, > Should it be restarted though? My take is that it should That's a difficult question. It would be nice to restart connman automatically, but on the other hand we do not want to suddenly disconnect user's network connection. That's extremely annoying for the user. An example: my boss suddenly disappeared from our team meeting on a voip call. The reason was that he was updating his laptop during the meeting and connman upgrade disconnected his network. And if there are lots of packages to upgrade, it can stay disconnected a long time. Not good. IIRC when connman was still using init.d scripts it worked so that connman wasn't restarted during upgrade but /var/run/restart-required was set so that user would have to reboot manually. I think that's the safest choise. Forcing users to reboot is also annoying, but do we have any better options? Mathieu, what do you think? > however connman should also be bringing the interface back up.. > > If it's not the case, maybe it's a bug in connman itself. has this been > reported upstream yet? connman does connect to the network again after an upgrade, at least it does that for me. [Bug 626918] Re: Nvidia 173 driver does not work with xserver 1.9
Thanks for the suggestion, but I really shouldn't have to be using backports on a system that has always worked. That doesn't solve the problem. I have been running 10.10 since it went beta and have solved plenty of issues since then, as is expected, but this is bonkers. A mainline aptitude update && aptitude upgrade should _never_ bork a system to this extent. I seem to have no option but to reformat, which will take days due to my set-up, and I have to change distros, as I know Ubuntu is borked. wodny, This bug report tracks the bug where the loopback interface failed to be brought up due to a missing /etc/network/interfaces. You appear to be describing a new bug, not previously reported; please open a new bug report for this. If the problem is a missing event from upstart-udev- bridge, you should file this new bug report against the upstart package. > As an additional project I've created a upstart start map generator: > https://bitbucket.org/wodny/upstart-map > Results attached. Interesting! I bet there would be people on ubuntu-devel interested in knowing about this. BTW, I think the graph needs to express dependencies in more detail; there's no way to tell from this graph which dependencies are "or"ed dependencies, and which are "and"ed dependencies. In first Tab, Click on button "Apply to the all system" * In Firefox: Edit / Settings / Advanced / Network / Connection / Parameters Select radio button "Use proxy system parameters" Now run wireshark with gksudo and run capture on outgoing interface. In Firefox, try to request a random website, not specifically the HTTP server. => Firefox try to connect to proxy server In Firefox, try to request the HTTP server (here http://66.249.92.104/) => Firefox try to connect to proxy server and not to web site directly, which is not excepted behavior. If you perform exactly the same test with proxy configuration done in Firefox and not in gnome : * in Firefox: Edit / Settings / Advanced / Network / Connection / Parameters and select "Manual configuration of proxy" In edit box HTTP Proxy server, enter a proxy address (does not have to be correct, eg. http://127.0.0.1/) In edit box "Ignored Host", add the ip address of your HTTP server (here 66.249.92.104). Retry tests and Firefox handles perfecly exclusion list. ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Gnome proxy setting "Exclusion" seems not correctly handled by Firefox https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/655025 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 640807] Re: automatic xrandr module misconfigures monitors
Bumping to high, since this breaks a lot of people's monitor settings. The upstream change was introduced after feature freeze, so it appeared quite late. Seb and I discussed this in #ubuntu-desktop. We will add a gconf key to enable the automatic xrandr configuration (if there are no configuration files), and set that to false in Ubuntu. That patch will be acceptable for upstream, and it's a very safe solution, in the sense that it is easy to test, relatively unintrusive, and will change back behaviour to what we had in all earlier releases and Maverick Beta. With my release team hat on, I think this is safe enough to push into maverick final still; this affects the live system, so an SRU would be a lot less useful. ** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu Maverick) Importance: Undecided => High ** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu Maverick) Status: Confirmed => In Progress ** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu Maverick) Assignee: Canonical Desktop Team (canonical-desktop-team) => (unassigned) -- automatic xrandr module misconfigures monitors https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/640807 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
