[Bug 566437] Re: package fglrx 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu2 failed to REMOVE: error exit status 2 - dpkg-divert: mismatch on package - while removing the package

@Alberto and others: May I suggest a SRU (Stable Release Update) to
10.10 Maverick and/or 10.04 Lucid to save the (non-technical) users that
have not yet upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10 from a bad user-experience.

[Bug 437378] Re: Some flashes appears when a window is resized

2011-01-05 Thread Bellegarde Cedric
bugs appear with every window manager i test:
- metacity
- openbox
- kwin
- blackbox
- ...

Only working window manager is compiz so i guess bug is in cairo dock
and not in window managers...

Here what kwin devs think about it:

"The claimed assumption that kwin would set size and position independently if
there's a combined configure request is (afaics) wrong, the geometry update is
blocked in the configure request until everything's done
(position/size/contrainment)"

And it works with compiz because compiz set size and position
independently due to it plugin architecture...

Yes, you're right: it's okay if I use LANG set to C, en_AU or
en_IE.utf8. But I'm actually using en_AU.utf8, fr which it is badly
misaligned.

Also, doing the same test for df -h, for en_AU.utf8 they're almost
aligned (out by 1), and for all the other above locales they align
perfectly.

HTH,

[Bug 697550] [NEW] HAProxy /etc/init.d/haproxy script fails to run by default

2011-01-05 Thread Marcin Wojtczuk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: haproxy

DIST: Ubuntu 10.4.1 LTS
PACKAGE: haproxy-1.3.22-1
FILE: /etc/init.d/haproxy

There is a problem running this script - it does not do anything; fails
to start/stop/status.

There is a strange variable in line 19:
ENABLED=0
and then suspicious line 28:
test "$ENABLED" != "0" || exit 0

That line makes the script to exit every time, no metter what you set
ENABLED to (in line 19). You need to set the variable in
/etc/default/haproxy.

There are two problems:
1. IMVHO such variable as ENABLED makes little sense. One can choose to enable
or disable services in distro-specific way.
2. the variable ENABLED is double-set, once in /etc/init.d/haproxy and then in
included script /etc/default/haproxy (see line 25)

There is no way for someone to know what is happening without reading
source of /etc/init.d/haproxy. No documentation nor post-install scripts
mention the need for this tweak.

Yeah, sure - haproxy is for serious users, but the strenght of any public
project is sensible defaults.
There defaults are not very sensible IMHO.

[Bug 687392] Re: Kernel panic with 2.6.32-26 security upgrade

2011-01-05 Thread Aaron Brady
Hi,

This may be a grub1 problem; we were running this kernel version under
grub1 (because that's what vmbuilder does) and KVM and had two machines
fail to boot. Editing the "root" kernel parameter from the UUID to
/dev/sda1 and booting allowed us to boot correctly. Upgrading to the
latest kernel seemed to fix this regression.

2011-01-05 Thread Fabounet
the dock only uses a gdk_move_resize, so the bug would be in GDK, but I
don't think so.
for me, it's the WM's job to correctly handle a move+resize event. if Compiz
can do it, there is obviously a correct way to do it, don't you think so ?

[Bug 445989] Re: Poor Rx on TL-WN422G wifi adapter (zd1211rw driver)

2011-01-05 Thread halfbeing
@Jose: Do you mean that the performance of the card is poor, or just
that the reported signal strength is low? I ask this because I use this
card and it performs well (i.e. better than my laptop's internal wifi
adapter) even though the software tell me that the signal strength is
low.

As far as I can tell, the maximum it will go to is exactly 50% when it
is right next to the access point. i would expect a less tidy number if
the card were genuinely having trouble communicating.

[Bug 294648] Re: svn over https with client certificates broken (regression in intrepid)

2011-01-05 Thread Joe Orton
I am not following what patches are where or what the differences are
between the different builds are in Ubuntu. Here is what we use in
Fedora, which is an unpatched neon 0.29.5 built against GnuTLS:

$ rpm -q subversion gnutls neon
subversion-1.6.13-1.fc14.x86_64
gnutls-2.8.6-2.fc14.x86_64
neon-0.29.5-1.fc14.x86_64
$ svn co https://www.opensc-project.org/svn/test
Authentication realm: https://www.opensc-project.org:443
Client certificate filename:
...
$ svn co https://lavalit.com/svn/openbor/trunk t2
At2/openborscript.h
...

You are saying above, that only the Ubuntu build of neon using OpenSSL
is working? Maybe the version of GnuTLS in use makes a difference.

I just checked the debian/ for both Ubuntu & Debian packages, and I
  don't find any non-documented changes.

In addition, I can't find where -Bsymbolic-functions was added in the
Ubuntu package (except for the changelog) !

Hence I deduce that this should be a sync.

[Bug 697569] [NEW] update-initramfs script stalls frequently on LiveUSB

2011-01-05 Thread Juan Sebastián Marulanda
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: initramfs-tools

When running the script, say, to update the kernel, the script can take
hours without advancing. Checking with htop, lzma is taking lots of
memory (I have to add a swapfile in order to avoid the system to run out
of it, using short of 500 MB of RAM), but its CPU use is practically
none. The swapfile isn't used in full, either.

When doing the upgrades, I procure to avoid doing anything else on the
system, expecting the task to go unburdened. Still, I've had to wait
over three hours to get no progress at all: the file
/cdrom/casper/initrd.lz.new doesn't change at all when checking from
time to time with ls.

[Bug 691723] Re: OpenVPN Client Ignores DNS

2011-01-05 Thread Thierry Carrez
Hm, I think the problem comes from using directly OpenVPN with a
NetworkManager than owns resolv.conf. Both try to overwrite resolv.conf
and NM wins. You should either configure network outside NM (using
/etc/network/interfaces), or use network-manager-openvpn for an
hopefully integrated experience...

[Bug 697440] Re: Can't save files over the network using non standard gnome programs

2011-01-05 Thread Rémi Denis-Courmont
VLC is not showing the network locations fine within KDE. The problem
lies in the GTK backend, i.e. the Qt plugins provided by GTK.

I'm not sure that I gave the correct explanation of the problem.
However, the ping from the gnome-nettool does not work.

[Bug 684875] Re: Patch to Natty 2.6.37-virtual breaks non-EC2 users

2011-01-05 Thread Stefan Bader
I did a small test this morning with ami-e4c9388d:

IMAGE ami-e4c9388d
099720109477/ebs/ubuntu-images-testing/ubuntu-natty-daily-amd64-server-20110104
099720109477available public x86_64 machine aki-427d952b
ebs
BLOCKDEVICEMAPPING /dev/sda1 snap-9fb802f2 8

Originally running 2.6.37-11 and showing sda and sdb in
/proc/partitions. I did a build from the current master-next in Natty:

# uname -a
Linux ip-10-117-77-50 2.6.37-12-virtual #26~lp684875v1 SMP Wed Jan 5 09:14:12
UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux

# cat /proc/partitions
major minor #blocks name

 20218388608 xvda1
 202 16 440366080 xvdb

This works with or without the xen_emul_unplug=unnecesarry switch
(expected as m1.large is not HVM). So we seem to be ok with just
reverting the patch. Though we should check whether we now need the
argument for our cluster instances.

[Bug 675416] Re: Unbootable after filesystem corruption

2011-01-05 Thread Jeroen T. Vermeulen
I'm having the problem again, though in a more serious form that leaves
Maverick completely unbootable, and a Maverick live CD won't let me fsck
the partition. But I took the laptop back to the shop for a full
hardware check-up, and it showed no problems. This includes a hard-disk
check and yet another memory check.

that we would have gotten a lot of bug reports if it affected many
users. Please provide the VLC debug logs.

[Bug 695519] Re: Video playback garbled

2011-01-05 Thread Rémi Denis-Courmont
This is a problem with your XVideo driver. Make sure you have not
configured XVideo parameters such as contrast or brightness wrong. lt
could also be a problem with another application screwing up the XVideo
settings, or with a buggy XVideo driver.

[Bug 694772] Re: Sudden reboot during server ISO install

2011-01-05 Thread Loïc Minier
I tested the no-telinit version by rebooting a couple of times after
installation of an updated libc6, and didn't get any umount or fsck
error that I could see, nor any reboot but that was not expected on a
regular install anyway.

@David, you're right. In addition I'd say that I'd like to target both
of them to fix as many crashes as possible. Also, one of the two
GStreamer fixes are upstream.
