[Bug 1095315] Re: [USB-Audio - FastTrack Pro, recording] No sound at all

2013-01-03 Thread David Henningsson
I'm suspecting that ,0,0 records from SPDIF in your case and ,1,0 from
analog. If so we could just try ,1,0 first and then ,0,0, i e the string
becomes "hw:%f,1,0 hw:%f,0,0"

The question is if it is the other way around for other Fasttrack Pro
devices, so this would regress behaviour for them. It would be good with
confirmation from at least two more device owners before changing this.

[Bug 1080947] Re: damageScreen() in UnityScreen::nuxDamageCompiz() severely hurts Unity performance

2013-01-03 Thread Sam Spilsbury
Hmm, would you accept a fix to this if it worked in the normal case, but
had a slight feedback loop in the case where GLX_EXT_buffer_age was
supported ?

The best way to handle this problem is to add support for geometry
clipping to nux (eg, give nux a list of rectangles, and when it draws
textures, it will determine the correct vertices + texcoords for the
drawn textures to remain within those rectangles). However, adding
support for geometry clipping to nux is not trivial. Worth doing if we
can, but we need to talk with the relevant people about that.

Currently, my approach is to give nux the damage region, and have it
determine which BaseWindows need to be presented to the screen. We also
get back that list, and ensure that the damage region covers that area
too (to prevent overdraw). However, that approach is slightly flawed
when the backbuffer is partially defined, as we have to mark the nux
areas as damaged, and then that feeds back into the next time we redraw,
when we just re-present the nux windows again because their area was
damaged on a previous frame.

(Sorry, I can't make that any more terse, its a complicated problem and
I've been looking into it for days).

[Bug 1080947] Re: damageScreen() in UnityScreen::nuxDamageCompiz() severely hurts Unity performance

2013-01-03 Thread Sam Spilsbury
To clarify - the feedback loop is a worse-case that is still better than
the best case that we have now. It doesn't cause constant redraws,
rather, it just means that the nux windows will always be drawn to the
screen every time a compiz window updates. The cost is not that bad - as
it is two draw calls at the most.

[Bug 1077289] Re: Lubuntu 12.04 missing libpam-gnome-keyring

2013-01-03 Thread Duckhook
The fix/workaround is as follows:

1. Do:

sudo apt-get install libpam-gnome-keyring

2. Logout
3. Login
4. When the pop-up for unlocking the default keyring comes up, do not simply
type in the password to unlock. Instead, click "details" and select the
"automatically unlock this keyring on login" radio button. Then enter your
password to unlock the default keyring. You will now have linked the default
keyring to the login keyring. Even if the pam module was installed, it is
possible that the link was not established. In that case, the last portion of
these instructions may still solve the problem.

[Bug 1080947] Re: damageScreen() in UnityScreen::nuxDamageCompiz() severely hurts Unity performance

2013-01-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I would suggest first remove the damageScreen and reintroduce the old
code that it replaced. Then you will have solved this bug and probably
only need to solve some flickering which the damageScreen call was
introduced to work around.

No changes to Nux should be required.

I don't think so. Bug 921321 is a specific bug against the Nouveau
driver, and there is no evidence of it being XFCE specific. This
bug seems XFCE specific and happens with both the proprietary NVidia
and FGLRX drivers (and possibly others).

[Bug 265033] Re: Form contents are invisible when cursor leaves field, but data is still saved in form.

2013-01-03 Thread Franck
Bug is still present in Ubuntu 12.10 / evince 3.6.0-0ubuntu2.

Opening a document with forms, data filled in forms just won't show. It
won't print either. Going in the form field (once you know there is one
!) shows the data, until you leave the field.

Works just fine in Okular (okular ask if you want to show/hide the
form).

Makes evince quite unusable, as for every pdf you open, you are
uncertain if the complete document is shown...

gWaei 3.6.2 is out. The localized menus are back and a few other things
have been polished up. It would be nice if this could be used in 12.4

[Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2013-01-03 Thread Bertilo
"try the current mainline kernel"

No. Didn't help. My situation is exactly the one described in #625. I'm
on Linuxmint 14 KDE, with the mainline Kernel 3.8.0-999. I've had two
freezes in the last two days, the last one two minutes ago. I've tried
everything that's ever been suggested. Nothing helps. It's been going on
for months...

(I've been on Linux for the last 12 years or so, but this bug actually
has me thinking abour switching to something else. But to what? Windows
is an ocean of pain. OSX is ridiculous. Should I just give up on
computing? But it's my living!)

[Bug 250723] Re: hardinfo does not list USB devices

2013-01-03 Thread Martin Steghöfer
@Jonathan Marsden: I really wouldn't consider this bug a "feature request".
It's not like anyone wants something that hasn't been implemented yet: The "USB
devices" tab is there (so the feature isn't really new, but is supposed to be
working already) and was populated in earlier versions of Ubuntu - it's just
that it stopped working at some point.
But yes, maybe upstream is still the place to fix this.

I had the same problem on Ubuntu 12.10 that includes hardinfo 0.5.1
right now. But it seems to be fixed in the current head revision
f4b4651e372d4369e4a62e7ccfe357048b171f70 of the upstream git repository
"git://github.com/lpereira/hardinfo.git". So it will be fixed in the
0.5.2 release.

But as this can take a while (0.5.1 has been out for quite some time, so
the hardinfo guys don't seem to release frequently), the package
maintainer might apply the bug fix to the Ubuntu package before the
0.5.2 release. Looks like the relevant commit is the following:
https://github.com/lpereira/hardinfo/commit/d9e242117b7a73dd3057af25956027a361f7999f

Btw. the 0.5.2 commit might cause some additional work for the package
maintainer, too: The hardinfo project changed the build system.

[Bug 988713] Re: Compiz cpu usage high when moving windows

You should keep an eye on bug 1027211. One fix has been implemented so
far with more to come. And they improve performance on all drivers. Not
just nvidia (which is most affected).

[Bug 1092621] Re: Ubuntu 12.10 does not support Google Nexus 4 phone in MTP mode

2013-01-03 Thread Dan Näsman
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 903422 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/903422

There are ONE POINT THREE million devices activated each day that are
not "plug and play" with Ubuntu!

I have been frustrated with the lack of Android 4+ (MTP) plug and play
for some time and I have tried gmtp and go-mtpfs but none have been
stable. I handle my family's 7 android devices and the proposed
workarounds works now and then for some of the devices. Last time that I
needed to offload 9 GB of pictures from a Galaxy SII phone I had to
revert to a virtual Windows 7:(

I propose to make MTP "Plug & Play" in Ubuntu, current LTS and future
releases.

[Bug 903422] Re: Ubuntu does not work with Samsung Galaxy phones ( Unable to open raw device 0)

2013-01-03 Thread Dan Näsman
There are ONE POINT THREE million devices activated each day that are
not "plug and play" with Ubuntu!

I have been frustrated with the lack of Android 4+ (MTP) plug and play
for some time and I have tried gmtp and go-mtpfs but none have been
stable. I handle my family's 7 android devices and the proposed
workarounds works now and then for some of the devices. Last time that I
needed to offload 9 GB of pictures from a Galaxy SII phone I had to
revert to a virtual Windows 7:(

I propose to make MTP "Plug & Play" in Ubuntu, current LTS and future
releases.

[Bug 1032550] Re: [multipath] failed to get sysfs information

2013-01-03 Thread Ronald Moesbergen
Peter,

First: happy new year!

I've been doing some more tests to track down the cause of this bug.
Since it looks like a kernel bug, I tried reproducing this with kernel
3.5.0, version 3.5.0-21.32~precise1. I could reproduce the faulty paths
that multipathd was unable to remove, however: there were no hanging
processes this time and thus no kernel crash.. which is an improvement.
During the test I did see this happening:

LUN-DATABASE (36006016061e02e003cf1aca4ae07e211) dm-1 DGC,VRAID
size=200G features='1 queue_if_no_path' hwhandler='1 emc' wp=rw
|-+- policy='round-robin 0' prio=130 status=active
| |- 4:0:1:1 sdi 8:128 active ready running
| `- #:#:#:# - #:# active faulty running
`-+- policy='round-robin 0' prio=10 status=enabled
  |- 4:0:0:1 sdg 8:96 active ready running
  `- #:#:#:# - #:# active faulty running
LUN-LOGGING (36006016061e02e000286c1adae07e211) dm-2 ,
size=20G features='1 queue_if_no_path' hwhandler='1 emc' wp=rw
|-+- policy='round-robin 0' prio=130 status=active
| |- #:#:#:# - #:# failed faulty running
| `- 4:0:0:0 sde 8:64 active ready running
`-+- policy='round-robin 0' prio=10 status=enabled
  |- #:#:#:# - #:# active faulty running
  `- 4:0:1:0 sdh 8:112 active ready running

As you can see, multipathd fails to remove the 'faulty' paths from the
device-mapping again. However, for some reason this didn't lead to
processes stuck in 'D' state this time. During this, the following
message was logged repeatedly:

Jan 3 10:24:14 ealxs00161 multipathd: sdd: failed to get sysfs information
Jan 3 10:24:14 ealxs00161 multipathd: sdd: unusable path

So multipathd was retrying the removal, but it failed every time. After
bringing the path back up, it restored OK and everything was fine again:

LUN-DATABASE (36006016061e02e003cf1aca4ae07e211) dm-1 DGC,VRAID
size=200G features='1 queue_if_no_path' hwhandler='1 emc' wp=rw
|-+- policy='round-robin 0' prio=130 status=active
| |- 4:0:1:1 sdi 8:128 active ready running
| `- 3:0:0:1 sdc 8:32 active ready running
`-+- policy='round-robin 0' prio=10 status=enabled
  |- 4:0:0:1 sdg 8:96 active ready running
  `- 3:0:1:1 sdf 8:80 active ready running
LUN-LOGGING (36006016061e02e000286c1adae07e211) dm-2 DGC,VRAID
size=20G features='1 queue_if_no_path' hwhandler='1 emc' wp=rw
|-+- policy='round-robin 0' prio=130 status=active
| |- 3:0:1:0 sdd 8:48 active ready running
| `- 4:0:0:0 sde 8:64 active ready running
`-+- policy='round-robin 0' prio=10 status=enabled
  |- 3:0:0:0 sdb 8:16 active ready running
  `- 4:0:1:0 sdh 8:112 active ready running

After this, failing over again worked just fine, the paths that failed
to be removed the last time were now removed without problems... Both
machines survived about 10 up/down testruns. I'll attach the syslog of
this run shortly.
