[Bug 1033727] Re: USB passthrough doesn't work anymore with qemu-kvm 1.1.1

2013-02-28 Thread Stefan Mühlbacher
Very intresting News:

After reverting to Ubuntu 9.10/Qemu 0.11.0 the USB-SIM-Reader didn´t
work anymore. Same results as above.

Maybe the qemu-version 1.2.0 caused the Kobil Systems GmbH mIDentity
Light / KAAN SIM III to hang! After unplugging and plugin in to
another usb-port it works again. Now the server is in production use for
12 hours, then i can test again on the patched 1.2.0-version (qemu-
kvm-1.2.0+noroms-0ubuntu2.12.10.3, Debian)

2013-02-28 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for your report.

I understand the difficulties you are facing, but it is expected to
require sysadmin intervention to recover from filesystem corruption, so
failure for the system to automatically do this is in general not a bug
and thus inappropriate for this bug tracker.

So since this looks like local disk corruption or a hardware problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Invalid.

You can find pointers to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

If you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
including steps to reproduce, and then change the bug status back to
New.

2013-02-28 Thread Stefan Bader
Blueprint changed by Stefan Bader:

Whiteboard changed:

  Test Plans:

The qrt libvirt testsuite is to be run before every package upload.

  Release Note:
   * Libvirt can now be used to launch and test UEFI based VMS.
   * Libvirt-qemu can now be set up in one step to use hugepages for improved
performance.

  Notes:
  * transparent hugepages are available in 1.3, so no setup is needed for use
of hugepages. Therefore blog is canceled.
+ * libvirt has now updated code for libxl/xenlight but it looks like the Xen
packaging needs to be revised to make use of that. libxen-dev currently has

[Bug 1131713] Re: DiskMonitor not working

2013-02-28 Thread Alain Miltenburg
** Description changed:

I am unable to get the DiskMonitor to work on my server. Powernap still
wants to suspend when the disks are spinning.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. sudo apt-get -y install powernap
  2. sudo hdparm -S 60 /dev/sda (Sets spindown to 5 minutes for drive sda)
- 3. After 10 minutes: sudo hdparm -C /dev/sda Check if spindown is working
+ 3. After 5 minutes: sudo hdparm -C /dev/sda Check if spindown is working
  2. sudo hdparm -S 251 /dev/sda (Sets spindown to 5,5 hours)
  4. sudo apt-get install -y powernap
  5. add this to the [DiskMonitor] section of /etc/powernap/config: sda = y
  6. sudo service powernap restart

  Expected behaviour:
Powernap should not take any powersaving actions while the configured
harddrive keeps spinning.

  Encountered behaviour:
Powernap takes powersaving actions while the harddrive is still spinning.

[Bug 1135453] [NEW] open-iscsi +mpio with multipathd init script order errors

2013-02-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

when using open-iscsi and multipathd for a mpio setup there are several
init script logical issues:

when shutting down, the system does first stop multipathd and then try
to umount the filesystem and then stop open-iscsi to the system hangs
forever on shutdown.

also when booting up it does mount the partition before multipathd and
open-iscsi are ready and you get the ubuntu screen that the partition
could not get mounted, do you want to skip.

after bootup process you can however mount the partition without any
issue.

[Bug 1029430] Re: KVM guests networking issues with no virbr0 and with vhost_net kernel modules loaded

2013-02-28 Thread Serge Hallyn
My understanding is that this relates to non-libvirt-maintained bridges,
so marking wontfix for libvirt.

If we wanted a generic way to address this, perhaps /etc/init/qemu-
kvm.conf, if it is modprobing vhost_net, should add the iptables rule if
not already present?

[Bug 1135871] [NEW] arm containers should not use the /etc/default/lxc MIRROR variable

2013-02-28 Thread Serge Hallyn
Public bug reported:

I have a local apt-cacher-ng mirror which I also put in /etc/default/lxc
as the MIRROR to speed up container creation. However, when I create
arm containers, lxc-create always fails with:

I: Running command: debootstrap --arch armhf --foreign --verbose
--components=main,universe --include=vim,ssh precise
/var/cache/lxc/precise/partial-armhf
http://10.42.43.1:3142/archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu

until I unset the MIRROR variable.

Perhaps this would be better fixed by switching to a 'proxy' variable
(and then respecting what is in /etc/apt/ for the proxy). Or, the
ubuntu template should ignore the MIRROR variable for arm containers, as
they need to puse ports.ubuntu.com.

I'm confused as to why ntpd would try to access

[Bug 1133092] lxc-net info

2013-02-28 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for reporting this bug. The lxc installation and upgrades failed
because of the lxc-net upstart job not starting. I notice you are
running a custom kernel, perhaps with selinux enabled, which may or may not
be affecting this.

Could you please try manually doing

ifconfig -a
route -n
brctl show
sudo start lxc-net

and showing the results of those, as well as anything found in
/var/log/upstart/lxc-net* ?

Re: [Bug 1135453] [NEW] open-iscsi +mpio with multipathd init script order errors

2013-02-28 Thread Ritesh Raj Sarraf
On Thu, Feb 28, 2013 at 6:51 PM, Launchpad Bug Tracker
1135...@bugs.launchpad.net wrote:

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

when using open-iscsi and multipathd for a mpio setup there are several
 init script logical issues:

when shutting down, the system does first stop multipathd and then try
to umount the filesystem and then stop open-iscsi to the system hangs
 forever on shutdown.

Killing the daemon shouldn't have direct impact on umount of the map,
unless all the paths for that map go offline. If every operation goes in
parallel (with my understanding of the new gen init services like upstart
and systemd), and iscsi sessions get dropped before the umount, yes, you
definitely will run into the hang situation.

Again, the hang situation depends on how your multipath policy is
configured.

also when booting up it does mount the partition before multipathd and
open-iscsi are ready and you get the ubuntu screen that the partition
could not get mounted, do you want to skip.

after bootup process you can however mount the partition without any
 issue.

It is hard to make out what might be the cause from just the english
explanation. Perhaps the multipath maintainer here can translate this to *Steps
To Reproduce* and then investigate it further.

[Bug 1091430] Re: 9p fails with readonly+non-root due to O_NOATIME

2013-02-28 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Ben, or anyone else affected,

Accepted qemu-kvm into precise-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu-kvm/1.0+noroms-
0ubuntu14.8 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

Accepted qemu-kvm into precise-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu-kvm/1.0+noroms-
0ubuntu14.8 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

** Changed in: qemu-kvm (Ubuntu Precise)
   Status: Triaged = Fix Committed

thanks, very interesting. lxc depends on bridge-utils, so my guess is
that your custom kernel actually does not support bridges.

Just to be sure, could you please show the result of

dpkg -l | grep bridge

and attach your /boot/config-* for your kernel version?

Thanks, your kernel configuration is the problem then. You have

# CONFIG_BRIDGE is not set

You can work around this by either compiling a new kernel with bridges
enabled, or, if you don't plan to use bridges anyway, you can disable
the lxc-net upstart job by editing /etc/default/lxc and setting
USE_LXC_BRIDGE=false

2013-02-28 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for reporting this bug.

I can't reproduce this on quantal (or raring), using variations of 'kvm
-serial mon:pty -hda x.img -cdrom precise-mini-amd64.iso'. I also note
that the libvirt xml you cite is present in all of my vm xmls. If you
can reproduce it in raring using kvm, please paste the exact commands
you used here and re-set status to New.

[Bug 247583] Re: add option to start dnsmasq with a custom configuration file

As has been discussed upstream, adding a generic custom conf file hides

[Bug 571572] Re: krb5 prefers the reverse pointer no matter what for locating service tickets.

2013-02-28 Thread Tom Yu
I can see no obvious source code changes to the krb5 packages between
Quantal and Raring that would result in the observed behavior of
rdns=false functioning on stock Raring libkrb5-3 but not on Quantal.
It's possible that the underlying bug in glibc got fixed in the
meanwhile. I haven't confirmed the Raring result personally yet, but I
do confirm that Precise is broken. I'll try to set up a public-facing
test fixture soon.

[Bug 1134036] Re: Package install hangs if LC_ALL is not set

2013-02-28 Thread Julian Edwards
The links aren't that useful because it's showing the post-facto state.
If you could deliberately unset LC_ALL and then install the packages
from scratch it would be closer to my own experience.

If it ends up installing ok for you, then there's some deep voodoo at
work here! It's very repeatable on my quantal server installation.

We have seen this previously on a bunch of packages, where the locale
isn't configured. We particularly saw this on cloud images, which
wouldn't have an understanding of the required locale until first

Personally, i feel the bug is the locale not being configured properly

[Bug 1131713] Re: DiskMonitor not working

2013-02-28 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Hi Alain,

Would you mind trying the algorithm that detects whether the disks are
active/inactive?

I have put it here: http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/5574954/

So you should only need to run it for the desired disk drive. Please let
me know the output of it. If this detects that the disks are
active/inactive correctly, then it is something else which prevents
powernap from doing what's supposed to.

Cheers.

[Bug 1136936] [NEW] growpart and cloud-utils should support growning mounted filesystem

2013-02-28 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

Under bug 1096999, we added support to util linux 'partx' to update the
partition table information of a disk with a mounted partition. This
takes advantage of kernel feature in 3.8.0.

This actually removes the necessity of cloud-initramfs-growpart.
We can now put that function into growpart and cloud-init instead. By doing
so, we can actually make it able to be disabled from user-data, and not require
ramdisk code.

I tried using aptitude after booting into the 'fix it' choice one gets

this has something to do with intercommunication with one of several

a certain library is marked as missing and when I use apt-get

I wish I had written the script's name down something like uavuj but
I am not sure. I can always pull it up if you of you wants to

meanwhile, I am gonna try and reinstall my clamAVand see if that helps

[Bug 1135382] [NEW] Chromium address bar looks ugly with Adwaita

2013-02-28 Thread Anders Kaseorg
Public bug reported:

As of recent updates, the Chromium address bar started looking ugly in
raring when using the Adwaita theme. See this screenshot:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=237349

This was fixed upstream by these commits:
http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-themes-standard/commit/?id=c9d21d9963c6c3fc7104ff3521eeab37cc57b974
http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-themes-standard/commit/?id=f33d2dbcae4f42cd8d3cd5e271ab483d52c43940
The problem went away when I cherry-picked these onto 3.6.5.

Even with AC pluggedin the wired network doesn't work.
I will test the Kernels above to see which one caused the problem...

2013-02-28 Thread zarquon42
This seems to be a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/pidgin/+bug/1108056, and pidgin is waiting
for gsettings, which is non-responsive (also see

[Bug 1062077] Re: Linux hangs with: [drm:atom_op_jump] *ERROR* atombios stuck in loop for more than 5secs aborting

2013-02-28 Thread Felix Eckhofer
My vgaswitcheroo-enabled system is currently unusable with raring's
xserver-xorg-video-radeon 1:7.1.0-0ubuntu1 (after typing the password, the
screen turns on and off multiple times with lots of atombios stuck messages
in the syslog and sometimes will start the unity session in low resolution with
wrong aspect ratio, most of the time it just hangs however).
With version 1:6.99.99~git20120913.8637f772-0ubuntu1 everything is fine.

[Bug 1131072] Re: Test page is printed on available printer if the printer under test is unavailable

2013-02-28 Thread Oleg Moiseichuk
Actually if printer not available then test page is printed on available
printer. It seems to me that more consistent behavior is to send an
error rather then redirect printing job to available printer.

[Bug 1126210] Re: GTK theme information not used (was: Fonts look non-optimal in Qt Creator)

2013-02-28 Thread Timo Jyrinki
So it'd be fixed now in the packaging branch with GTK support added in.
But at least on one machine there's a graphics corruption in menus when
the theme information is used, even though I've the menus looking fine.

I've been currently advised to hold on fixing this bug until we have
proper appmenu-qt support which would workaround the issue. The issue
itself is probably a graphics driver issue.
