[Bug 1183963] Re: tolleff flag ist set by default - weird behaviour

2013-09-25 Thread era
Another hour down the drain. The inconsistency WRT the man page noted
in comment #3 is a real killer.

Anyway, Ubuntu does not have to abide by the silly turf war in Debian
-- just override the config file (or merge the newest package, which
should finally fix this, if I understand the upstream bug report's
status correctly).

[Bug 1230169] Re: screensaver turns on while watching youtube video

2013-09-25 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1230169/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1180397] Re: [MRE] Xen stable update to 4.2.2

2013-09-25 Thread Stefan Bader
Adding the test results as an attachment to keep the formatting sane.
Note on the one occasional failure of the security QRT run: one of the
tests for /proc/pid/maps turns out to be racy at least (I need to talk
to the security team about it). But failing or not failing is only
depending on execution speed of the test and not a regression at all.

So from my point of view I would hope this to be sufficient regression
testing.

[Bug 1227751] Re: Contacts app can freeze if there is a blank email address

2013-09-25 Thread Richard Huddie
** Description changed:

  20130918.1

  TEST CASE:
  1. Load the Contacts app and create a new contact
  2. Add 1 email address to the contact and save it
  3. Add a second email address, but press the + button twice so there are 2
blank email address lines shown
  4. Enter the second email address on the bottom email address line, so there
is a blank email field above it (see screen shot)
  5. Save the contact

  EXPECTED RESULT:
The contact should save successfully, including the 2 email addresses and
discarding the blank email address line

  ACTUAL RESULT:
The Contacts app can completely freeze (see screen shot attached). This
doesn't happen every time, but is reproducible ~50% of the time. Other times
the contact will save but the second email address will be discarded.

+ *** UPDATE 25/09/2013 ***
+
+ build 20130924.1
+
+ This behaviour is also reproducible using phone number, IM and address
+ fields. If there is a blank item above the new one, then the new one
+ will fail to save.
+
+ Easiest way to solve the problem would be to stop the UI from being able
+ to add another new field if there is a blank one there already.
+
+ *** END UPDATE ***

It could be interesting, if an application is handling more than one
scheme: in that case it really needs to see the complete URL.

In that case it'll need to know how to handle the multiple arguments
anyway, so you'd pass both.

[Bug 1230231] Re: gnome-sound-recorder does not record

2013-09-25 Thread markling
Something else of note regarding the actual bug.

The user interface for my (alsa) sound settings seems to only offer
options when there is a sound programme active.

The 'Recording' tab in my sound settings interface says: No application
is currently recording audio.

It says this even after I open Sound Recorder. Opening Audacity doesn't
make any difference.

Input devices has a thicket of options.

So try this: You are a user. You want to record streaming audio. You
find the recorder doesn't work.

You go to input devices in the sound settings user interface. It has two
lots of options. I.e. each option has a multitude of options. Ok, Fine.
So lets see the 'Show' options:

'
All input devices
All except monitors
Hardware input devices
Virtual input devices
Monitors
'

So your first question is, where's streaming audio? I consider it a sign
of my relative technical sophistication that the phrase 'streaming
audio' makes sense to me. Just think how many people don't. How far
would they get?

Anyway, back to me. I can't see streaming audio. I don't even have any
input device as far as I know. I have a computer. I don't have a
microphone. I have an earphonse socket. I record my music on it. I
listen to it in my earphones. I use the web. That's it. Devices? I dread
to know the difference between hardware, virtual and monitor devices.
I'm sure its interesting. But I don't have the luxury of spare time.
Would that I had.

So you select 'All devices' of course.

It offers you then two other options. It offers you a volume control for
Monitor of built in audio analogue stereo. And one for Built in
audio analogue stereo.

I don't even know what that is. Is it my sound card? Does my computer
even have a sound card? I consider it a mark of my technical superiority
over most nobby users that I even know that my computer *probably*
doesn't have a sound card. It *probably* has a sound chip! Aren't I
clever. If I had time to spare, I even might look it up. But I don't, so
I'll get back to trying to get my sound recorder to work.

As for what built in audio analogue stereo is, the prospect of looking
it up online fills me with despair. This is just the first option. That
could take a whole evening on its own. There's a whole thicket of
options to get through yet. I mean, elsewhere it offers me an option for
digital stereo. Isn't it all digital? How do I get it to record
streaming audio?

Anyway, built in audio analogue stereo is offers me some other
options: microphone 1, microphone 2, line in, analogue input, video.
None of them seem to describe anything I know.

As far as I'm aware, I don't have any analogue input devices. What is an
analogue input device? I don't have any microphones (being a superior
sort of computer user, I know my computer *probably* has a mic built in
somewhere, but I don't use it). I don't have a video connected. I don't
even have a DVD playing. And 'line in' - is that like if you have an
audio line going *in* to the back of your computer. I think I may have a
line in. But I think last time I looked there may have only been a mic
input. I don't remember. But I just need to record streaming audio
anyway.

I tried various options. Nothing seems to make any difference. It seems
the sound settings user interface wants to be told about input devices.
Is my sound card an input device? Is the web an input device? Dare I try
and find the answer when the ground ahead looks very much like quicksand
that will suck you in up to your neck in sound architecture before you
know it?

2. Take a picture
3. Go to Home scope
4. Open 'Gallery' app
5. Open the picture you just too
6. Move back to 'Application' scope / 'Recent apps'
7. Long press on a running app and close 'Camera' and 'Gallery'

string after the dash. Example:

(gdb) break hmi-con
connection_ptr
hmi-connection.hpp
construction vtable for std::istream-in-boost::process::pistream
hmi-connection-state.cpp
construction vtable for std::ostream-in-boost::process::postream
hmi-connection-state.h
hmi-connection.cpp
(gdb) break hmi-conn
connection_ptrhmi-connection.cpphmi-connection.hpp
hmi-connection-state.cpp hmi-connection-state.h
(gdb) break hmi-conn

and so on.

If I just write break hmi-[TAB][TAB], gdb will output the whole list of
symbols for the executable (and ctrl+c is the only way out).
If I reach the . (break hmi-connection.[TAB][TAB]), gdb will again output
the whole list of symbols for the executable.

This happens quite often, whenever a filename with dash '-' is involved.

This is a quite severe bug: gdb should (almost) never output the whole
list of symbols because this simply makes no sense in most of real-life
situations. It may make sense in a one-file project where the list of
symbols is just one or two pages long, but for sure it shouldn't be
printed out with the [TAB][TAB] sequence.

The sum of these two bugs is devastating: trying to autocomplete a
filename with a dash often result in a very long wait possibly followed
by wrong autocomplete suggestions. If the autocomplete is successful,
however, it may happen that one has pressed [TAB] more than two times
(due to the latency), and then the full symbol list printout kicks in.
This is really frustrating and makes gdb autocomplete quite unusable.

Finally, gdb autocomplete is mostly context-free. Whenever I break in a
function, I'll probably want to inspect some local variable, but gdb
prints out every possible match, also including library symbols from
STL, boost, etc.. Some priority to local symbols should be added (maybe
expanding the search context according to the number of times [TAB] is
pressed?).

I'm using GNU gdb (GDB) 7.6-ubuntu under Ubuntu 13.04 Raring.

[Bug 1230091] Re: [feature] Window reparenting

2013-09-25 Thread Jamie Strandboge
** Description changed:

(I'm filing this as a bug in order to be able to point other people to
it, and to track its progress; if there's a blueprint containing this
  task, please let me know)

Some components (such as the Online Accounts trusted helper) need to be
able to pop-up a window (typically, a dialog) on top of the running
application. Such windows should be modal to the application, that is
the user should not be able to interact with the application while the
modal window is displayed on top of them. This also means that in the
task switcher one shouldn't see two windows, but only the topmost modal
window (and parts of the application window, in case the modal window on
  top is a non-fullscreen dialog).

For developers, this API already exists in Qt: see
https://qt-project.org/doc/qt-5.1/qtgui/qwindow.html#fromWinId
It needs to be implemented in the QPA plugin, so feel free to add the
relevant projects to the bug report.
+
+ From jdstrand
+ This is a hard requirement for application confinement because of our trust
model-- permission to access sensitive data by AppStore apps is typically
granted or denied at the time of access (caching the result for later use as
appropriate), so users have a context for the access being requested. We do
this instead of throwing up a permissions prompt at installation. However, for
it to work, trusted helpers like online accounts and location require this
functionality. A trust-store is also being implemented so other services like
calendar and contacts can do the same. Because this bug exists, the
implementation for online accounts, location and the trust-store is blocked and
appstore apps are therefore able to access these services without the user
knowing.

[Bug 1228485] Re: smbd and nmbd can start up before their respective apparmor profiles are loaded

2013-09-25 Thread David
@Steve it is *reasonable* to have this in the upstart smb.conf
configuration because the apparmor profiles package does carry smbd and
nmbd apparmor profiles. Also, I am not asking for this in all upstart
init configuration files just in smbd nmbd which *historically*
(samba) are prone to security flaws and *both* samba and nmbd run as
root.

Please consider re-opening this bug and resolving this issue.

Please can you double check it and correct if needed?

[Bug 1229725] Re: [IDT ID 76d1] ALSA test tone not correctly played back. Theres no sound via internet or my audio files.

2013-09-25 Thread David Henningsson
Hi Liis,

I'm not sure how this could have happened - there shouldn't have been
any updates to 10.10 that could have caused this. But I think your best
bet at this point is to install this package:

https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-audio-dev/+archive/alsa-daily/+files
/alsa-hda-dkms_0.201204101019%7Emaverick1_all.deb

Then reboot and see if it works. If it does not help, uninstall the
package again. Thanks!

I have a Gigabyte GA-H87N-wifi motherboard, which explicitly supports 3
monitors at the same time from the motherboards' onboard graphics (2x
HDMI, 1x DVI). The CPU is an Intel 4570S with HD4600 graphics (also
supporting 3 heads at the same time). However, I can only get 2 monitors
(any 2, but not all 3) working. All monitors are identical 1600x1200
(NEC LCD2070NX).

The KDE systemsettings GUI helpfully shows icons for all 3 monitors, but
one is always greyed out, and attempting to enable it emits Failed to
set mode: Invalid argument in Xorg.0.log. Xrandr compians Configure
crtc 2 failed. However, it's clear that the graphics hardware can
handle 3 outputs, since it refers to pipe 0, pipe 1 and pipe 2 in the
logs.

Google doesn't show anything very helpful, except to warn that in older
graphics hardware (definitely not this motherboard) there may be more
output connectors than graphics pipelines, and that in the HD4600 there
are only 2x PLL, so 2 of the monitors need to be identically clocked (as
they indeed are).

I'm using the xorg-edgers package, built a couple of days ago from git,
and this probleme affects both the latest Ubuntu (Saucy), and Mageia
Alpha 4. I'm using a very recent kernel, 3.11.0.

Thanks for your help - please let me know if there's anything I can do
to assist in debugging/testing.

P.S. I originally filed this here, but I think it is really an Xorg bug,
rather than an Ubuntu-specific one.

Can you please try to set up the 3 pipe configuration using the xrandr
tool? This way we can exclude a bug in the kde gui tool.

If that doesn't help please boot with drm.debug=0xe added to your kernel
cmdline, reproduce the issue (using raw xrandr, no gui tools) and then
attach the output of dmesg. Please make sure that dmesg is complete
(including early boot logs). If that's not the case please increase the
dmesg buffer by adding log_buf_size=4M or so to your kernel bootline.
