[Bug 1243339] Re: lightdm no longer runs guest session through wrapper

2013-10-31 Thread Robert Ancell
** Changed in: lightdm/1.8
Milestone: None = 1.8.4

** Changed in: lightdm/1.8
   Status: In Progress = Fix Released

** Changed in: lightdm
   Status: Fix Committed = Fix Released

** Description changed:

- Till 13.04 guest couldn't access home directory. In 13.10 guests can
- read the files in the /home-directory. Not sure if it is a problem of
- lightdm or AppArmor.
+ The LightDM guest session is no longer run with AppArmor.

- Problem is the same on update from raring and fresh install of saucy.
+ To reproduce:
+ 1. Boot to Unity Greeter
+ 2. Select Guest
+ 3. Open terminal
+ 4. Type 'ls /home'
+ Expected result:
+ Unable to see home directories
+ Observed result:
+ Able to see home directories

- ProblemType: Bug
- DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.10
- Package: lightdm 1.8.2-0ubuntu1
- ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.11.0-12.19-generic 3.11.3
- Uname: Linux 3.11.0-12-generic x86_64
- ApportVersion: 2.12.5-0ubuntu2
- Architecture: amd64
- Date: Tue Oct 22 19:51:27 2013
- InstallationDate: Installed on 2011-10-27 (726 days ago)
- InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot - Release amd64 (20111012)
- MarkForUpload: True
- SourcePackage: lightdm
- UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to saucy on 2013-10-19 (3 days ago)
+ Regression potential:
+ There is a risk of the guest account being less capable if the AppArmor
changes are not correct. The remote login feature also uses AppArmor and should
be checked that it works with these changes.

Just wanted to note:

After a long time (=since I issued this bug), I finally got my hands on that
machine again.
I've updated all LTS 12.04 packages to their current latest repo-versions.

Latest kernel available (and now installed) is: 3.2.0-56
Resume from suspend still does not work with that kernel version.

But some hotkeys doesn't work on not english layout. For example launch
terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T), Intellij idea hotkeys doesn't work when acitve russian

[Bug 1212337] Re: accounts-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in dbus_connection_send()

2013-10-31 Thread daniel CURTIS
** Description changed:

  Hi. There appeared some problems with 'accountsservice' -- a D-Bus
  interface for user account query and manipulation, that honestly have
  occurred day-to-day.

  ### PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

  A few weeks ago after login as a normal user, 'accountsservice' (used for
querying and manipulating user account informations) crashed. On the beginning
it was a random incident. After a few days, 'accountsservice' crashed each time
after every user logs on. I think, that's all what I can write, to try to
describe this issue, because everything seems to be okay -- no system freezing
or slowdowns, no problems after packages update/upgrade etc.

  ### DETAILED INFORMATIONS:
  ==
  * ProblemType: Crash
  * Uname: Linux 3.2.0-51-generic-pae i686
  * Architecture: i386
  * DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 (Xubuntu 12.04 variant)
  * Package: accountsservice 0.6.15-2ubuntu9.6
  * ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu17.4
  * NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia
  * Segfault happened at: 0xb76bb7c3:   mov0x10(%eax),%eax
  * Executable Path (ProcCmdline): /usr/lib/accountsservice/accounts-daemon

  Also '/var/log/apport.log' file contain some informations about this
  issue. Everything is in a attached log file.

- ### WHAT HAVE HAD AN IMPACT ON THIS ISSUE?
- ==
- I have no ideas, why it started to happen. Only one thing, which I've done
for a few weeks before problems with 'accountsservice' was 'conky-all' install.
Nothing more, nothing less -- no serious administrative tasks were performed
(except e.g. kernel or programs updates via APT utility or UpdateManager, but
it seems to be obvious).

  I would like to notice, that this issue still occurs, after next point
Xubuntu update -- from 12.04.2 to 12.04.3 version. So for now, kernel version
is; 3.2.0-55-generic-pae. Anything related with this bug, when all of this
started to happen, remains unchanged.
  One more, important, thing to mention is that - in my case -
'accountsservices' crashed even after a fresh Xubuntu 12.04 install. For more
info, please see comment #12.

how to revert to the official Xorg packages.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-31 Thread Norbert
@Sebastien
Thank you for great idea!
As a start point I created two tags: keyboard-layout-switching-hotkeys for
hotkeys (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/+bugs?field.tag=keyboard-layout-switching-hotkeys
 )
and keyboard-layout-switching-related for bugs related to layout switching (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/+bugs?field.tag=keyboard-layout-switching-related
 ).

@David
I added all hotkeys, which are listed in Keyboard Layout Options under
Key(s) to change layout of Ubuntu 12.04.3.

@n0dwis
About Ctrl+Alt+T see  bug 1226962.

** Description changed:

  A PPA which should provide some relief for this issue is available at
  https://launchpad.net/~attente/+archive/1218322. There still remain
  issues regarding keyboard shortcuts though. To install:

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:attente/1218322
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get upgrade

  === gnome-control-center ===

  Impact: the UI to change the layout switching keys doesn't work

  Test case:
  - open gnome-control-center's text input settings
  - click on the next layout key entry
  - try entering a key combinaison (e.g ctrl-space)
  - the UI should reflect the new keys

  Regression potential: that UI was not working before, it should only be
  an improvement (some key combos are not working as expected, that's
  another issue and shouldn't be mixed with this one)

  === gnome-settings-daemon ===

  Impact: attempting to change keyboard layouts using only modifier keys
  doesn't work

  Test case:
  - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry
settings
  - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source
['PrimaryShift_L']
  - press and release ctrl+left shift
  - the current input source should change

  Regression potential: The input switching shortcut might capture other
  non-modifier shortcuts, but users will need to consider this when
  choosing their switching shortcut anyways. For users this bug affects,
  this represents a working solution for a critical bug.

2013-10-31 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
BigglesPiP: Sorry about the delay. Yes, the problem is that both
packages try to write to the same location. However the fix for this can
come in various different ways, for instance removing the file from
either package, moving it or placing the content in some package-
separate place. And without knowing how it was resolved, it is hard to
tell whether (or even which of) the packages can be updated in 12.04. So
someone should investigate how this was fixed, and whether/how that fix
can be included in 12.04. Hope this clarifies things. :)

[Bug 657900] Re: mount.cifs: permission denied: no match for /home/myuser/mydir/myshare found in /etc/fstab

2013-10-31 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
I'm using 12.04.

I can auto mount windows shares via fstab, and I have user-level scripts
that consume these shares successfully.

However, sometimes a window server is rebooted. When this happens, the
auto mounting that occurred via fstab happened before the windows reboot
and is therefore expired (unmounted).

In my user-level scripts, I need a way to remount so the scripts don't
fail.

If I put sudo mount -a, into the script, that won't work because the
automated script can't type in a password even if that user is a
sudoer.

mount -a (without sudo) also doesn't work because it gives error only
root can do that.

I've added the user flag to these mounts in fstab, but this too still
doesn't give the user-script the ability to mount the windows share, you
get an error:

no match for /media/windowsShare found in /etc/fstab

Please advise.

If there is an issue with one sources file there may be issues with
many, so removing all the files in /var/lib/apt/lists/partial/ is

[Bug 1246712] Re: System upgrade from 12.10-13.04 failed.

2013-10-31 Thread Brian Murray
The error you had the first time was due to having another package
manager, like synaptic or software-center, running. Once that was
closed the upgrade proceeded. Because this is resolved with a software
fix to the package I am setting the bug to Invalid.

[Bug 1199877] Re: unity-panel-service memory leak and 100% CPU usage

2013-10-31 Thread Colin King
I don't see the CPU being pegged and it isn't leaking memory so badly.
There is still some memory leakage. I ran health-check (from my PPA,
ppa:colin-king/white) against it for over 10 minutes using applications
such as LibreOffice, Gimp, Firefox and still observed quite a lot of
brks() occurring:

Heap Change via brk():
  PIDbrk Count Change (K) Rate (K/second)
  3222 unity-panel-service 14318612 29.10 (growing
moderately fast)

so, that's 18Mb in 640 seconds, or about 29K a second.

I did reboot my machine before testing and double checked that I was
running the package from -proposed.

Attached is a report from health-check with the full details.

[Bug 1208019] Re: Eclipse menus doesn't show up in Saucy

2013-10-31 Thread Sebastián Funicello
I made my own eclipse.desktop file, and pasted this:

[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Name=Eclipse
Exec=env UBUNTU_MENUPROXY= /opt/eclipse/eclipse
Terminal=false
Icon=/opt/eclipse/icon.xpm
Type=Application
Categories=IDE;Development
X-Ayatana-Desktop-Shortcuts=NewWindow
[NewWindow Shortcut Group]
Name=New Window
Exec=env UBUNTU_MENUPROXY= /opt/eclipse/eclipse
TargetEnvironment=Unity

But it opens 3.8 version. Then I looked if unpacking eclipse folder and
make desktop file again fixes it but nothing, it keeps showing 3.8
version.

Anyway, this bug it's about something else and have a temporary
solution, my problem is different so maybe i should look somewhere else,
idk.

[Bug 1199877] Re: unity-panel-service memory leak and 100% CPU usage

2013-10-31 Thread Colin King
By the look of things, after all the submenus are rendered the memory
consumed by unity-panel-service seems to stabilize, so I am guessing it
cache's the menus because after several invocations of the the
applications I can't see a great deal more memory being allocated. Is
this the intention? If so, how much will it cache over the life time of
a session?

[Bug 1246886] [NEW] Please merge lighttpd (1.4.33-1) from Debian testing

2013-10-31 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
Public bug reported:

Debian changelog since last merge:

lighttpd (1.4.33-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Drop the connection-dos.patch - merged upstream.
  * Fix mod_extforward missing configuration file: ship requested
configuration file (Closes: #697304)
  * Remove access.conf, an obsolete conffiles as we should have done since
2010 (Closes: #703215)
  * Push debhelper's compat mode to 9, the use of maintscript helper requires
8.1 so we had to push the debhelper b-d anyway.
  * Fix config.guess/config.sub out of date for arm64 by adding the patch
provided by Colin Watson. Thanks (Closes: #726394).
  * Fix [PATCH] use dh-systemd for proper systemd-related maintscripts to
add systemd support. Thanks to Michael Stapelberg (Closes: #713859)

 -- Arno Töll a...@debian.org  Tue, 15 Oct 2013 21:24:49 +0200

lighttpd (1.4.31-4) unstable; urgency=high

  * CVE-2013-1427: Switch the socket path for PHP when using FastCGI. /tmp is
world-writable which may cause security implications if an attacker
manages to control /tmp/php.socket before the web server (re-)starts.
  * Switch VCS to git
  * Push standards version (no changes)

[Bug 1034002]

2013-10-31 Thread bruno pennec
Same issue for my A8-450M laptop with Integrated or Discrete GPU set.
I made some tests from kernel 3.8.0 to 3.12-RC6 on Ubuntu.
I got same result with other distro like ArchLinux or Fedora.

# lspci
00:00.0 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] Family 15h (Models 10h-1
fh) Processor Root Complex
00:01.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Trinit
y [Radeon HD 7640G]

Some other tests on my main kernel 3.11.6 (Ubuntu PPA)
(CPU and GPU firmware has been updated to latest version)

 - After suspend and resume, with ssh I can check brightness control on
/sys/class/blacklight/radeon_bl0/brightness and change the value but nothing
change on screen (always black screen)
 - no syslog entry give information on the problem
 - no more information with drm.debug on kernel
 - fglrx doesn't have the same problem, suspend and resume work fine
   (but fglrx don't allow to change brightness).

So, this concern seems to come from the drm driver and not from kernel or acpi,
but I don't have enough knowledge to go further to identify the root cause in
xorg

[Bug 1041637]

2013-10-31 Thread Radulican
Same here.
recently switched to a nvidia card (gt630) on kernel 3.11.6
after startx, blank screen with top left cursor, and then wide stair-like black
white stripes with noise.

after trying git kernel 3.12.0rc7 no stripes, different kind of noise
but same result.

i installed the video card today, so I can't tell if it worked before
(yet, but i am installing a 3.11 kernel now)

If further information are helpful i will provide them

[Bug 1197395] Re: /run/user/$ID/pulse owned by root and not by the user

2013-10-31 Thread Kootee
I think problem is connected with system crash. I also musted do hard
reboot of my computer, because after wake-up my usb WiFi didn't work and
system didn't wanted to reboot (even with root privilages). So after
some minutes of waiting i've pressed power button and after new boot got
this error.

[Bug 1241582] Re: system freezes after suspend to RAM

2013-10-31 Thread Angelos Sfakianakis
In my case, the User Interface (Unity) seems to work fine. However, the system
is at a peculiar state. It can't shutdown, restart or suspend (not even from
the Terminal) and the Network Manager is not showing any connections. Also,
most applications can't be started after a suspend. However, the system
restarts when instructed to do so as root (`sudo restart`).
The problem doesn't occur always, but about half the times (thus it is really
annoying)!
I hope my comment will help locate and/or fix the Bug... :D

PS. My graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce 520M (512MB DDR2 RAM) and my
processor is an Intel Atom N2700 @2.13GHz. Of course, I use Ubuntu 13.10
(upgraded from Ubuntu 13.04)...

[Bug 1069843] Re: Nautilus consuming memory and cpu

2013-10-31 Thread Matt Smith
This bug also affects me. If I have a png file or pdf file in a nautilus
window or on the desktop the cpu usage shoots up and the icon just shows
a waiting symbol. I am not sure why this is low priority, nautilus is
pretty much unusable with this bug.
