There appeared some problems with 'accountsservice' -- a D-Bus interface for user account query and manipulation, that honestly have occurred day-to-day. ### PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A few weeks ago after login as a normal user, 'accountsservice' (used for querying and manipulating user account informations) crashed. On the beginning it was a random incident. After a few days, 'accountsservice' crashed each time after every user logs on. I think, that's all what I can write, to try to describe this issue, because everything seems to be okay -- no system freezing or slowdowns, no problems after packages update/upgrade etc. ### DETAILED INFORMATIONS: == * ProblemType: Crash * Uname: Linux 3.2.0-51-generic-pae i686 * Architecture: i386 * DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 (Xubuntu 12.04 variant) * Package: accountsservice 0.6.15-2ubuntu9.6 * ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu17.4 * NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia * Segfault happened at: 0xb76bb7c3: mov0x10(%eax),%eax * Executable Path (ProcCmdline): /usr/lib/accountsservice/accounts-daemon Also '/var/log/apport.log' file contain some informations about this issue. Everything is in a attached log file. - ### WHAT HAVE HAD AN IMPACT ON THIS ISSUE? - == - I have no ideas, why it started to happen. Only one thing, which I've done for a few weeks before problems with 'accountsservice' was 'conky-all' install. Nothing more, nothing less -- no serious administrative tasks were performed (except e.g. kernel or programs updates via APT utility or UpdateManager, but it seems to be obvious). - ,-[ $ lsb_release -rd ] | Description:Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS | Release:12.04 `- + + ### WHAT HAVE HAD AN IMPACT ON THIS ISSUE? + == + I have no ideas, why it started to happen. ### APPENDIX: = I would like to notice, that this issue still occurs, after next point Xubuntu update -- from 12.04.2 to 12.04.3 version. So for now, kernel version is; 3.2.0-55-generic-pae. Anything related with this bug, when all of this started to happen, remains unchanged. One more, important, thing to mention is that - in my case - 'accountsservices' crashed even after a fresh Xubuntu 12.04 install. For more info, please see comment #12. [Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.
@Sebastien Thank you for great idea! As a start point I created two tags: keyboard-layout-switching-hotkeys for hotkeys ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/+bugs?field.tag=keyboard-layout-switching-hotkeys ) and keyboard-layout-switching-related for bugs related to layout switching ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/+bugs?field.tag=keyboard-layout-switching-related ). @David I added all hotkeys, which are listed in Keyboard Layout Options under Key(s) to change layout of Ubuntu 12.04.3. @n0dwis About Ctrl+Alt+T see bug 1226962. ** Description changed: A PPA which should provide some relief for this issue is available at https://launchpad.net/~attente/+archive/1218322. There still remain issues regarding keyboard shortcuts though. To install: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:attente/1218322 sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade === gnome-control-center === Impact: the UI to change the layout switching keys doesn't work Test case: - open gnome-control-center's text input settings - click on the next layout key entry - try entering a key combinaison (e.g ctrl-space) - the UI should reflect the new keys Regression potential: that UI was not working before, it should only be an improvement (some key combos are not working as expected, that's another issue and shouldn't be mixed with this one) === gnome-settings-daemon === Impact: attempting to change keyboard layouts using only modifier keys doesn't work Test case: - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry settings - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift: gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source ['PrimaryShift_L'] - press and release ctrl+left shift - the current input source should change Regression potential: The input switching shortcut might capture other non-modifier shortcuts, but users will need to consider this when choosing their switching shortcut anyways. [Bug 860045] Re: package gdb-msp430 7.2~mspgcc-7.2-20110612-1 failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/share/gdb/python/gdb/__init__.py', which is also in package gdb 7.3-0ubuntu2
BigglesPiP: Sorry about the delay. Yes, the problem is that both packages try to write to the same location. However the fix for this can come in various different ways, for instance removing the file from either package, moving it or placing the content in some package- separate place. And without knowing how it was resolved, it is hard to tell whether (or even which of) the packages can be updated in 12.04. So someone should investigate how this was fixed, and whether/how that fix can be included in 12.04. [Bug 657900] Re: mount.cifs: permission denied: no match for /home/myuser/mydir/myshare found in /etc/fstab
I'm using 12.04. I can auto mount windows shares via fstab, and I have user-level scripts that consume these shares successfully. However, sometimes a window server is rebooted. When this happens, the auto mounting that occurred via fstab happened before the windows reboot and is therefore expired (unmounted). In my user-level scripts, I need a way to remount so the scripts don't fail. If I put sudo mount -a, into the script, that won't work because the automated script can't type in a password even if that user is a sudoer. mount -a (without sudo) also doesn't work because it gives error only root can do that. I've added the user flag to these mounts in fstab, but this too still doesn't give the user-script the ability to mount the windows share, you get an error: no match for /media/windowsShare found in /etc/fstab Please advise. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/657900 Title: mount.cifs: permission denied: no match for /home/myuser/mydir/myshare found in /etc/fstab To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cifs-utils/+bug/657900/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1246712] Re: System upgrade from 12.10-13.04 failed.
The error you had the first time was due to having another package manager, like synaptic or software-center, running. Once that was closed the upgrade proceeded. [Bug 1199877] Re: unity-panel-service memory leak and 100% CPU usage
I don't see the CPU being pegged and it isn't leaking memory so badly. There is still some memory leakage. I ran health-check (from my PPA, ppa:colin-king/white) against it for over 10 minutes using applications such as LibreOffice, Gimp, Firefox and still observed quite a lot of brks() occurring: Heap Change via brk(): PIDbrk Count Change (K) Rate (K/second) 3222 unity-panel-service 14318612 29.10 (growing moderately fast) so, that's 18Mb in 640 seconds, or about 29K a second. I did reboot my machine before testing and double checked that I was running the package from -proposed. Public bug reported: Debian changelog since last merge: lighttpd (1.4.33-1) unstable; urgency=low * Drop the connection-dos.patch - merged upstream. * Fix mod_extforward missing configuration file: ship requested configuration file (Closes: #697304) * Remove access.conf, an obsolete conffiles as we should have done since 2010 (Closes: #703215) * Push debhelper's compat mode to 9, the use of maintscript helper requires 8.1 so we had to push the debhelper b-d anyway. * Fix config.guess/config.sub out of date for arm64 by adding the patch provided by Colin Watson. [Bug 1034002]
Same issue for my A8-450M laptop with Integrated or Discrete GPU set. I made some tests from kernel 3.8.0 to 3.12-RC6 on Ubuntu. I got same result with other distro like ArchLinux or Fedora. # lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] Family 15h (Models 10h-1 fh) Processor Root Complex 00:01.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Trinit y [Radeon HD 7640G] Some other tests on my main kernel 3.11.6 (Ubuntu PPA) (CPU and GPU firmware has been updated to latest version) - After suspend and resume, with ssh I can check brightness control on /sys/class/blacklight/radeon_bl0/brightness and change the value but nothing change on screen (always black screen) - no syslog entry give information on the problem - no more information with drm.debug on kernel - fglrx doesn't have the same problem, suspend and resume work fine (but fglrx don't allow to change brightness). So, this concern seems to come from the drm driver and not from kernel or acpi, but I don't have enough knowledge to go further to identify the root cause in xorg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1034002 Title: Lenovo E525 screen black on resume To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/dri/+bug/1034002/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1241582] Re: system freezes after suspend to RAM
In my case, the User Interface (Unity) seems to work fine. However, the system is at a peculiar state. It can't shutdown, restart or suspend (not even from the Terminal) and the Network Manager is not showing any connections. Also, most applications can't be started after a suspend. However, the system restarts when instructed to do so as root (`sudo restart`). The problem doesn't occur always, but about half the times (thus it is really annoying)!
