[Bug 1153934] Re: Some radio streams which used to play OK don't play after updating to rhythmbox 2.98 or higher due a libsoup bug

2014-01-17 Thread Walter Garcia-Fontes
rrich1974, the bug has been fixed upstream, and it seems that the
updated package is already available in the development version of
Ubuntu (14.04, to release in April). It's not immediate to update a
library like the one responsible of this bug in a stable release because
you never know what type of secondary effects it may have and you don't
want to fix one thing and break others in a stable release.

But if you think that the fix does not have secondary effects and there
is a case for bringing it to a stable Ubuntu release, you can apply for
a stable release updage (SRU). The instructions are here:

[Bug 1258058] Re: 10de:0fe4 [Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P] Brightness control no effect on screen

2014-01-17 Thread Filipe Dias
Hi,

Brightness controls work on Ubuntu 12.04 with the raring ringtail kernel
3.8 and the liquorix kernel. 3.12.6. But for the system to launch with
the brightness on, the user has to edit /etc/default/grub and change
this line like this:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash acpi_osi=\!Windows 2012\

On Ubuntu 13.10, the brightness controls do not work with these kernel
versions. Changing GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT also doesn't work.

- kernel 3.11 (the default one)
- kernel 3.12.6 (installed with these instructions)
- kernel 3.12.6 liquorix

Also, /sys/class/backlight is empty on 13.10, while on 12.0.4.3 it has
two folders acpi_video0 and intel_backlight

[Bug 1270079] [NEW] [Lenovo T540p, W540] Backlight interfaces not fully working

2014-01-17 Thread Yung Shen
Public bug reported:

This is a system installed with 12.04.3.

Brightness can be controlled in Systems Settings Brightness and
Lock Brightness slider.

However there are three interfaces,

/sys/class/backlight$ ls
acpi_video0 acpi_video1 intel_backlight

By controlling each interfaces as following command:
$ sudo sh -c 'echo 80  brightness'

here is the findings:

acpi_video*/brighness can be only controll by particular values like,
80, 40, 22, 12, 8, 5 ,3,1

intel_backlight/brightness can adjust from 0 to 4789.

three interfaces are not synchronized, this cause an issue for other
tools that uses acpi_video0 or acpi_video1 on this system.

[Bug 1270084] [NEW] Buttons are displayed incorrectly

2014-01-17 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 dev with nvidia-settings 331.20-0ubuntu7 and as
seen in this screenshot
(http://img4.picload.org/image/lgdpawp/2014_01_04_02_37.png) the 2
buttons Save Changes/Reload and Update Rule/Cancel are looking if
they were merged. Basically the Save Changes/Reload buttons are the
same as Add Rule, Delete Rule, etc. but with the difference that
their background layer isn't horizontally stretched as above. So there
are 3 possible solutions: Either the buttons should be the same like
Help/Quit, the background layer could be stretched or simply all the
these background layers could be removed (as they are even currently not
shown in many themes - maybe they were simply an accident). There is
also a thread in the Ubuntu forum about this:

[Bug 1270097] [NEW] Split virsh command into its own package

2014-01-17 Thread Jonathan Davies
Public bug reported:

When we deploy MAAS, this is typically done in a VM.

Now, in order to be able to provision VMs with MAAS, virsh is needed.

Now, virsh is part of the libvirt-bin, which pulls in a ton of stuff
which has no place in a minimum VM:

Start-Date: 2014-01-17 09:54:06
Commandline: apt-get install libvirt-bin
Install: dnsmasq-base:amd64 (2.59-4ubuntu0.1, automatic), libxenstore3.0:amd64
(4.1.5-0ubuntu0.12.04.2, automatic), libnetfilter-conntrack3:amd64
(0.9.1-1ubuntu1, automatic), libvirt0:amd64 (0.9.8-2ubuntu17.16, automatic),
libnuma1:amd64 (2.0.8~rc3-1, automatic), libapparmor1:amd64
(2.7.102-0ubuntu3.9, automatic), libavahi-client3:amd64 (0.6.30-5ubuntu2.1,
automatic), cgroup-lite:amd64 (1.1.5, automatic), libyajl1:amd64 (1.0.12-2,
automatic), bridge-utils:amd64 (1.5-2ubuntu7, automatic), libvirt-bin:amd64
(0.9.8-2ubuntu17.16)
End-Date: 2014-01-17 09:54:11

It would be nice to have virsh in its own package for these kinds of
deployments.

[Bug 1269838] Re: gnome-session.log takes 8 GB in a few hours

2014-01-17 Thread James Hunt
There is an upstart logrotate job that runs automatically soon after
session start, however, it does not (yet) run periodically to handle
rogue jobs such as gnome-session. You can however run the job yourself
simply enough as a non-root user:

$ start logrotate

Please attach a few lines of the output from your gnome-session log.

- same as Add Rule, Delete Rule, etc. but with the difference that
- their background layer isn't horizontally stretched as above. So there
- are 3 possible solutions: Either the buttons should be the same like
- Help/Quit, the background layer could be stretched or simply all the

2014-01-17 Thread quequotion

This is unlikely to be the cause of the problem. It looks like
pulseaudio attempts all possible configurations for devices when loading
them to find out which ones work.

I've noticed that I get the same floating point exception when
attempting to use the a52 plugin without pulseaudio running at all
(pulse device in this list is the alsa plugin that is configured by
default, not actually part of pusleaudio).

[Bug 1270107] [NEW] Timer entries in ~/.nvidia-settings-rc are swapped each time the control panel is closed

2014-01-17 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 dev with nvidia-settings 331.20-0ubuntu7. The
file ~/.nvidia-settings-rc contains among others such lines:

Timer = Memory_Used_(GPU_0),Yes,3000
Timer = Thermal_Monitor_(GPU_0),Yes,1000
Timer = PowerMizer_Monitor_(GPU_0),Yes,1000

But if the NVIDIA control panel is opened and then closed without changing
anything the first and the last lines gets swapped.

[Bug 575817] Re: Interrupted uploads are never retried

2014-01-17 Thread Alberto Salvia Novella
Since:
- This bug can be reproduced consistently.
- This bug has been reproducible for 3 years and 8 months, in any release and
platform.
- There's a triaged by someone else bug report (bug #1112440) that clearly
exhibits the same behaviour as this one.

The bug is not fixed yet, except I missed something.

[Bug 1270108] [NEW] CVE-2013-7281

2014-01-17 Thread John Johansen
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

The dgram_recvmsg function in net/ieee802154/dgram.c in the Linux kernel
before 3.12.4 updates a certain length value without ensuring that an
associated data structure has been initialized, which allows local users
to obtain sensitive information from kernel stack memory via a (1)
recvfrom, (2) recvmmsg, or (3) recvmsg system call.

[Bug 1180157] Re: Xorg freeze

2014-01-17 Thread Thomas Lynch
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected reproducible single-occurrence trusty

** Description changed:

This bug is in 12.10 13.04 and 13.10 (I've been waiting to see if
  would go away ;-)

When the system comes back from suspend the screen is black. Changing
virtual terminals does nothing. If I have a program that makes sound,
such as Alarm Clock the sound plays. I.e. the system appears to be
alive but lacking a screen driver. Cntrl-Alt-Del has no noticable
  result.

The only way out of this state I can figure out is to re-power the
  machine.

A system update recently changed the close lid back to suspend, so
closing the lid kills the video.

I suppose it is clear from the uploaded information, but just in case,
  this is an Acer 7250.

  Thanks!

Both are available in Debian.

I imagine there's a status page for Ubuntu somewhere showing packaging
problems but I wouldn't know where to look for that.

[Bug 1270087] Re: package mysql-server-5.5 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: il sottoprocesso nuovo script pre-installation ha restituito lo stato di errore 1

2014-01-17 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for your report.

This looks like a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in
Ubuntu.

You can find pointers to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Since we use this bug tracker to track bugs in Ubuntu, rather than
configuration problems, I'm marking this bug as Invalid. This helps us
to focus on fixing bugs in Ubuntu.

If you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug rather than a problem specific to
your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

[Bug 1270116] [NEW] nautilus-dropbox: dropbox fails to start with a pylinux import error [solved: dropbox issue; fix found by deleting old install files]

2014-01-17 Thread Bouke Bunnik

nautilus-dropbox 1.4.0-3ubuntu0.13.10.1

I recently updated to ubuntu 13.10 and found that I had no dropbox icon; Upon
looking,
it turned out to be because drobox was not running. If I start it via:
dropbox start -i
I get:

debian bug #734628 describes the same issue, and also a solution:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=734628#10
--
From: Trevor Bekolay tbeko...@gmail.com
To: 734...@bugs.debian.org
Subject: Re: Bug#734628: nautilus-dropbox: dropbox fails to start with a
pylinux import error
Date: Wed, 8 Jan 2014 13:21:30 -0500
With some help from David at Dropbox, I fixed the issue by doing the
following:

  sudo rm -rf /var/lib/dropbox/.dropbox-dist
  dropbox start -i

Which essentially wipes out the old Dropbox app files and reinstalls them.
The issue seems to be related to recent Debian Python updates.
In any case, anyone affected with this issue should be able to
perform the above steps to fix this bug.
--

Not sure there is much nautilus-dropbox can do about this, as it seems to be
related to
the binary that is downloaded from dropbox, though perhaps removing the
/var/lib/dropbox/.dorpbox-dist
dir in pre-install could be considered if the update always will refresh that
directory.

Thanks,
Bouke Bunnik

Re: [Bug 1180157] Re: Xorg freeze

2014-01-17 Thread Thomas Lynch
downloaded 'trusty' ;-)

yes, once the lid is closed then opened the screen is blank, and
actually it appears the system is hung, but it is hard to know for sure.

Also it boots without a mouse between 1/2 and 2/3 of the time, so it
requires multiple boot attempts to get the mouse to appear.

The run from usb stick does not keep information between bootups.
Hence, the WIFI settings must be re-entered on every boot, and then
apport must be installed again. It stands to reason that the apport
report will not have any useful data, because a reboot is required after
it crashes when the lid is closed, so as to get a terminal to run apport
from.

The three of those demons all play together! I've been at this for a
good couple of hours just to get the lid shut, opened, and to send a
report. I might humbly suggest, that for the 'run from usb' not to
store any data is a bit over the top in terms of making debugging
difficult, you all might should change that.

I'm not able to do an install to disk because the Fedora disk
partitioner has made a pretty mess on the prior install. They have gone
'minalmist' and virtual, but it gave all sorts of errors and left holes
on the disk. (Yes I filed a bug on that, and yes of course there was no
data in the apport report because the disk had to be repartitioned
between runs ...) I'm afraid to touch that house of cards, gosh if I
break the system while traveling I will be in quite a fix!

Good luck with the debugging!

Thomas

BTW Fedora 19 has both of these problems on Acer 7250 also.

On 2014-01-09 07:49, Christopher M. Penalver wrote:
Thomas Lynch, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
 http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

 apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-ati REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
