[Bug 1137630] Re: Emojis are not shown in ubuntu applications (and phone)

2015-03-04 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Adding Emoji to the Ubuntu font is bug 820034. That isn't necessarily a
good idea. However, the problem of Emojis are not shown in Ubuntu …
phone” could be solved in many other ways -- for example, by shipping
Symbola or Noto. So this belongs, at least, to ubuntu-touch-meta.

[Bug 1427672] Re: System doesn't power off when shutting down

2015-03-04 Thread Martin Pitt
So the journal goes to the bitter end when it's supposed to turn off
the computer, so nothing really useful there. I have no immediate idea
here, just perhaps some debugging tips.

I also noticed that sometimes shutting down causes the screen to
freeze/go black, I attributed that to a graphics driver bug when
shutting down lightdm/X.org (I sometimes get a similar effect when
switching users). Does this also happen if you switch to a VT before
shutting down? You can use sudo systemctl poweroff, or sudo poweroff
(should be by and large the same).

Another thing is, perhaps it shows some more things if you boot with
debug? that'll activate kernel debug messages too.

[Bug 1160731] Re: [System Product Name, ATI RS690/780 HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all

2015-03-04 Thread madbiologist
This is fixed in the upstream 3.13 kernel. The radeon.audio=1 kernel
boot option is no longer necessary with this kernel. Instead, HDMI audio
on ATI/AMD Radeon cards can be enabled and disabled on the fly by typing
the following in a terminal window:

xrandr --output HDMI-0 --set audio on

or

xrandr --output HDMI-0 --set audio off

If your HDMI port is numbered differently (type xrandr to check) - you
might need to change HDMI-0 in the above command to HDMI-1 or HDMI-2.

Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr is based on the 3.13 kernel.

[Bug 1428196] [NEW] octave does not plot anything

2015-03-04 Thread Juergen Hench
Public bug reported:

GNU Octave, version 3.8.1, Ubuntu 14.04
gnuplot (Version 4.6 patchlevel 4, last modified 2013-10-02, Build System:
Linux x86_64)
OS: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS, Release:14.04

package:
octave: Installed: 3.8.1-1ubuntu1
gnuplot: Installed: 4.6.4-2

sample output:

octave:1 plot(rand(10))
libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast
octave:2

I am running octave on a vnc4server headless system (a data processing
server, AMD 64-bit CPU) with a freshly installed system. I am using the
XFCE4 desktop environment launched vnc4server. Whenever I try to create
a plot (or directly write the plot data into files with the print()
function) I am getting this error message. I can, however, run gnuplot
alone, I can see the plot window and I can generate plots.

Octave 3.8 also prints the plot to a graphics file, e.g. in SVG
format. But this file is completely white. Likewise, the plot window is
displayed, but it remains white.

I have just migrated from an ubuntu 12.04 platform to 14.04, and have
kept the old computer (same type, 64-bit CPU). There, octave 3.2
produces the expected plots.

1) Is there another way to generate plots in octave into files (e.g.
svg) that are not affected by this (seemingly graphics driver) problem?

2) How could this be fixed for headless systems running a vnc server
without using the physical graphics card output?

Did anyone else notice this?

[Bug 1428184] [NEW] Invisible mouse pointer after resume from suspend

2015-03-04 Thread Eduardo Rudas
Public bug reported:

I'm using a fresh install of Xubuntu 14.04 (Description: Ubuntu 14.04.2
LTS \ Release: 14.04) with latest updates on a Samsung NP305U1A-A05CO
laptop (AMD E450 with Radeon HD 6320 Graphics)

After the computer is suspended, either by closing the lid, choosing the
option on the menu or by itself after the defined time, and then when I
wake the computer the mouse pointer is invisible, however the hardware
itself is working as mouse position and clicks continue working, only
the pointer is invisible.

If I switch to a console with Alt+Shit+F1 and switch back to X with
Alt+Shift+F7 the mouse pointer appears and is back to normal.

After installing fglrx 14.50.2 proprietary AMD driver (doing the
modification explained in http://askubuntu.com/a/543836/378463 to avoid
ocl-icd-libopencl1/wine conflict) including the Catalyst Control Center,
the problem is resolved and now I can suspend and resume the computer
and the mouse pointer is visible after wake up as expected.

A similar bug has been reported here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1297144 affecting 21
people and I have been instructed to file a new bug report.

[Bug 1427974] Re: Evince keyboard input fails

2015-03-04 Thread Sean
The document in question was the IRS 1040 form.

So after a bit more investigation it gets a little weird. I can repeat
this on the machine it occurred. The first few fields I can fill, and
then it will stop working. I set up another machine with the same
version of ubuntu and the same version of evince and this bug does not
appear.

[Bug 1428178] [NEW] glibc backport request: sourceware bug 12926

2015-03-04 Thread Graeme Johnson
Public bug reported:

sourceware bug: https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=12926
results in calls to getaddrinfo() spinning forever

This bug has been fixed in glibc master and included in 2.21 packages,
would it be possible to include a backport in the Trusty stable line
(e.g. currently 2.19-0ubuntu6.6)?

My environment:

[Bug 1424119] Re: Edit Connections...now insensitive by default in network manager's menu

2015-03-04 Thread houstonbofh
I looked a while and could not find this bug before reporting mine. I
would not have at all if Michael Pardee did not point it out. So I will
include my report and work around from 142780.

On Ubuntu 12.04 only. (Does not happen on 14.04)

After upgrading the network-manager-gnome packages (includes libnm-gtk0
libnm-gtk-common) from 0.9.4.1-0ubuntu2.3 to 0.9.4.1-0ubuntu2.4
Disconnect, Edit and under VPN Connections Configure VPN and Disconnect
VPN are greyed out and unelectable. You can no longer change passwords
for VPN or WiFi, or define new static IP configurations.

As 0.9.4.1-0ubuntu2.3 is no longer available in the repos, I had to roll
back to 0.9.4.1-0ubuntu2, which meant rolling back Unity Greeter as
well. This was initially found on my desktop, but replicated in a VM I
had with 0.9.4.1-0ubuntu2.3 still running. Going directly to
0.9.4.1-0ubuntu2.4 still gives the same problem.

This has also been reported on Ubuntu Forums.

[Bug 864735] Re: [ATI HDMI] HDMI Audio Disabled by Default (since oneiric)

2015-03-04 Thread sergiodavies
@madbiologist - Thanks for your answer.
No I have 5 of them (display ports from 0 to 4), but actually only the one
connected to display port 4 has audio capability - and pulseaudio volume
control (pavucontrol) is set accordingly.
Despite the pavucontrol showing audio being sent through the 4th display port,
no audio is actually received on the other side.
The setup works with proprietary fglrx drivers, but those drivers have an
annoying memory leak bug which fills 4GB of memory in less than one day...

Thanks for the hint on the linux kernel 4.0, I'll look at it, but will
that become available from standard repository for ubuntu Trusty?

[Bug 1428157] Re: package chromium-browser (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: cannot copy extracted data for './usr/lib/chromium-browser/resources.pak' to '/usr/lib/chromium-browser/resources.

2015-03-04 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1425987] Re: Cellular data connection stops after a while

2015-03-04 Thread Tony Espy
@Jean-Baptiste

Can you reproduce this reliably?

Also, it sounds like your steps are:

1. Boot the phone w/WiFi enabled, and in range of a remembered access point
2. Disable WiFi
3. Verify the mobile data connection comes up
4. After several minutes, the data connection will drop; sometimes it's
re-established, sometimes not.

How is your cell reception? Do you a see strong cellular signal on the
top-panel?

Finally, one thing that might help diagnose would be to install and run
Sergio's network-test-session tool:

[Bug 1425760] Re: NM takes a long time to discover and connect to wifi after suspend/resume and roaming

2015-03-04 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Do you remember which network you were suspending on at that point?

I see some fairly old scan results, but nothing extraordinary (4, 14, 24
seconds, which seems consistent with NM's scanning thresholds). Still,
the timing is such that there may have been a scan request or an
automatic scan by the driver before the command was run. Could you
attach a full syslog (or at least, containing kernel, wpasupplicant and
NetworkManager messages) so that we know whether wpasupplicant has
received scan results and when?

For lack of better options right now, it looks like this might just be
stale scan results from the driver, but I'm also not noticing this kind
of behavior on my very similar system.

[Bug 1301843] Re: Terminator window shrinks while trying to reduce font size with CTRL - in split window

2015-03-04 Thread Stephen Boddy
Hi, Terminator maintainer here. This is another occurrence of a common
bug in Terminator. It's connected with the window geometry hints as
suggested by #6. It seems like the geometry hints and the window manager
get in an argument over how big the window should be, and they each
start adjusting the size, causing the incredible shrinking windows.
There's a number of bugs previously raised against the Terminator
project in Launchpad (i.e. lp:1246078 and lp:1361252)

Simplest fix is to deactivate the geometry hints. I didn't write this
bit of the code, and I've not yet figured out the proper fix.

[Bug 1428114] Re: Need OSK input device on phones

2015-03-04 Thread Christian Dywan
I filed bug 1428206 for implementing a fake OSK plugin, which may
eventually also serve as a drop-in replacement for Autopilot to avoid
requiring maliit.

** Description changed:

Currently although it may look as though we have an OSK in Autopilot
tests running on phones, keyboard input emits synthetic events. This
makes testing of particular behavior involving pre-edit text impossible
- to test. We don't have unit tests for this either because maliit is very
- hard to spawn, so we essentially never run any of the tests for it.
+ to test (see also bug 1428206). We don't have unit tests for this either
+ because maliit is very hard to spawn, so we essentially never run any of
+ the tests for it.

- def get_keyboard():

- Return the keyboard device.
- # TODO return the OSK if we are on the phone. --elopio - 2014-01-13
- return input.Keyboard.create()
+ def get_keyboard():
+ Return the keyboard device.
+ # TODO return the OSK if we are on the phone. --elopio - 2014-01-13
+ return input.Keyboard.create()

As per my understanding we should have an input device that talks to
maliit using introspection (accessibility?), which is the way tests run
in ubuntu-keyboard, but those aren't right now re-usable by other
  projects.

[Bug 1428087] Re: Need (some) Autopilot tests to run in different orientations

As per discussion we should actually aim to simulate orientation changes
within the UITK without depending on the shell to enable tests not
relying on the environment. I'll take another look into what options we

addition to that.

[Bug 1428243] [NEW] package libc6-x32 2.19-0ubuntu6.6 failed to install/upgrade: package libc6-x32 is already installed and configured

2015-03-04 Thread Deve
Public bug reported:

I'm new to Ubuntu, which means I have no fu*king idea what i'm doing.
I tried to install steam on by 64bit machine but it wasn't working. I googled
the error and found this page: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2242632
I then used sudo apt-get install '^libc6.*' which is entry #4 and ever
since the error message appears, needless to say that steam still isn't working.

[Bug 1428083] Re: MIR: cmdtest, python-cliapp, python-ttystatus, python-coverage-test-runner

2015-03-04 Thread Michael Terry
cmdtest:
- It would be nice if this were python3 in this day and age. But since cmdtest
and its friends won't actually be on the desktop CD, it's OK.
- Needs team bug subscriber
- Its tests should be run. You can do this like so:
override_dh_auto_test:
ifeq (,$(filter nocheck,$(DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS)))
python setup.py check
endif

But be warned... The CoverageTestRunner check needs python-coverage-
test-runner added to the build-deps and even then it will fail because
it finds fault with files found in the build/ directory... So maybe fix
or finesse that test somehow.

2015-03-04 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1427133] Re: Build and validate click package button disabled without explanation

2015-03-04 Thread Zoltan Balogh
Once we arrive to the converged world where desktop Ubuntu will support
.click packaged applications the Build and validate click package will
be enabled even for Desktop target.

The package creation is target specific. If the target is i386 emulator
then the i386 chroot is used for package build, for an armhf device
obviously the armhf click chroot is used for package creation.

So the target selection is a very important step in Running-Building-
Packaging a project. Publishing I would consider as the last step of the
application development. I would expect the developers to first get
familiar with the Run function and that should put the developer on
track about the importance of the selected target.

But I am open for suggestion where and in what form should the IDE tell
that this button is disabled because you have selected a target what
does not yet support the .click package format

Also, I would forward this bug to the relevant system component what is
responsible to provide click support on desktop.

Is there anything you can add to the details of how you do the

[Bug 1428214] [NEW] FF: 36 - last window (of 6): no context menu + long lag for mouse/keyboard navigation

2015-03-04 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
Public bug reported:

I do not know in which version this bug manifested. Until #36, I had
been stuck using #28, as all subsequent versions crashed when first
starting up (I had 9 or so windows with lots of tabs, but whether that
was the issue I don't know - #28 had no problems with it, all that came
after were VERY slow to start up, and then crashed. With #36, I cleaned
things up - only 6 windows, and not so many tabs - it comes up rather
quickly and does not crash, but...)

All windows but the last work as expected.

Links, when right-clicked in the last window, do not display a context
menu, and nothing happens. I normally only use the menu to open a link
in a new tab, or once in a while, a new window. I can still do this by
holding down the control- or shift- key while left-clicking on the link
(a keyboard shortcut I just discovered, on a guess, when I found I could
not do it the normal way).

Also, if I use the navigation keys (or scroll-bars), or scroll-wheel,
there is a (sometimes very long) lag between when I try to navigate in
that direction, and when FF actually does so.

[Bug 1426794] Re: Wrong keymap on HP Compaq 8710W

2015-03-04 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.0 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 864735] Re: [ATI HDMI] HDMI Audio Disabled by Default (since oneiric)

2015-03-04 Thread madbiologist
Trusty 14.04 will get LTS updates with kernels from future Ubuntu releases.
For example, Trusty 14.04 shipped with a 3.13-based kernel, while 14.04.2 has a
3.16-based kernel similar to the one in Utopic 14.10. I couldn't find a
release date for 14.04.3, but they are currently targeting the kernel from
15.04 - see https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+milestone/ubuntu-14.04.3
15.04 will be released with a 3.19-based kernel, so to get the 4.0 kernel you
will have to use the mainline kernel PPA I mentioned in comment #33. The final
4.0 kernel should be released in 6 or 7 weeks time.
