[Bug 1475129] [NEW] HP EliteBook 9480m and others crash when sleeping docked and resuming undocked

2015-07-15 Thread val-s
Public bug reported:

I've seen this bug on multiple versions of Ubuntu (14.04 and 15.04) and
with multiple hardware (HP EliteBook 9470m, HP EliteBook 9480m, and HP
EliteBook 820). Not surprising since they appear to share a bios core.
They are all running latest BIOS.

Sleep/resume normally works fine, but if I allow it to sleep while in
the docking station, and then I undock it and resume it, it appears to
try to resume, then after half a second or so, it flashes back to POST
screen and boots fresh. It looks to me like the resume operation crashes
somehow and it reboots.

Observations:

It does not matter if there are any monitors pluged into the docking station.
I've tried toggling deep-sleep in bios, no effect.
I've tried toggling USB3 in bios, no effect.

I can't find any indication of a crash or a reason for the reboot in any
of the logs. I added the dmesg from EliteBook 820 because it's the
simpler installation. I have Bluetooth, Camera, and audio turned off in
bios for various reasons. It is also docked in a monitor-less dock (I
use it for charging).

Please let me know what other information I can provide.

[Bug 1369793] Re: Segmentation fault when changing level

2015-07-15 Thread John
I had the same problem (well, my daughter found it), and valgrind pointed me to
an issue which was easily fixed:
Array.h at line 106 (in svn trunk - if you have a different version it might be
elsewhere):
memcpy( m_data+i, m_data+i+1, (m_size-i-1)*sizeof(T) );
should be
memmove( m_data+i, m_data+i+1, (m_size-i-1)*sizeof(T) );

I emailed the address on the numpty physics page, but I don't know if
it's actively monitored so I thought I'd mention it here, too.

[Bug 1475089] [NEW] Power settings shows state of the wrong batteries.

2015-07-15 Thread PeterKnaggs
Public bug reported:

On this machine, I have three separate batteries whose power status gets
displayed in various misleading ways.
  - A CyberPower 1350AVR UPS (this is the battery whose status I'd prefer to
see in the menubar)
  - A Bluetooth-connect Apple MagicTrackpad (synaptic driver)
  - A Logitech wireless MX Laser USB-connected mouse.

When I launch

unity-control-center power

I see the Using battery power at about 50%, but I think it's referring to the
battery in the Apple Trackpad,
and on the right hand side it shows Unterruptible power supply Charging - fully
charged (at 100% on the meter).

The trouble is, it's not clear from the On battery power column, where I have
selected Power off for the
action to take when the power is critically low, which battery's charge state
it will be acting upon.
At the moment, the Using battery power just below shows at 50%, but I'd
prefer to see the
charge state of my CyberPower UPS being reported there, or at least some
indication in the
power configuration settings that it's going to perform the system shutdown /
power off action
based on the charge state of the UPS, and not on the charge state of my Apple
Trackpad (!)

I guess it sounds like a strange bug report, but I can imagine other Ubuntu
users seeing this
with other possible configurations, and it'd be nicer to make it clear which
battery charge
state is the one related to the shutdown action.

[Bug 1475134] [NEW] ixgbe and iproute2: inconsistent behaviour when setting VF mac and vlan using 'ip link'

2015-07-15 Thread Roman Bogorodskiy
Public bug reported:

'ip link' behaves strangely when trying to set both vlan and mac for a
VF.

Consider the following example:

$ sudo ip link set p2p1 vf 6 mac 36:c3:25:02:65:c4 vlan 300
$ ip link show p2p1
189: p2p1: BROADCAST,MULTICAST mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN mode DEFAULT
group default qlen 1000
link/ether 0c:c4:7a:1e:ac:0e brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
vf 0 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
vf 1 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
vf 2 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
vf 3 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
vf 4 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
vf 5 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
vf 6 MAC 36:c3:25:02:65:c4, spoof checking on, link-state auto

As you can see, it was able to set MAC address, but silently ignored VLAN
setting.
Now comes the interesting part, if I specify vlan first and then mac, things
work:

$ sudo ip link set p2p1 vf 6 vlan 300 mac  36:c3:25:02:65:c5
$ ip link show p2p1
189: p2p1: BROADCAST,MULTICAST mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN mode DEFAULT
group default qlen 1000
link/ether 0c:c4:7a:1e:ac:0e brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
vf 0 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
vf 1 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
vf 2 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
vf 3 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
vf 4 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
vf 5 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
vf 6 MAC 36:c3:25:02:65:c5, vlan 300, spoof checking on, link-state auto

The system is:

$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu

[Bug 1475089] Re: Power settings shows state of the wrong batteries.

2015-07-15 Thread PeterKnaggs
Sorry, I meant to explain about the power status getting displayed in various
misleading ways:
What happens is, if the Bluetooth-connected Apple trackpad happens to become
disconnected
for whatever reason (happens occasionally, I still haven't figured out how to
prevent it), the
power meter shows in the panel red and at 0% but that's misleading because it
really has no
information on the battery state in the Bluetooth Apple Trackpad, since that
device is no
longer connected.

Then sometimes, even when the Bluetooth Apple Trackpad _is_ connected, the
charge icon
in the panel changes to the shape of a mouse and shows me instead the charge
state of the
Logitech MX USB mouse. I'd prefer to have some way to configure the panel so as
to either
be able to display the charge state of all three batteries simultaneously
(preferably) or if
that's not possible, to at least be able to choose which device's charge state
to _always_ display.

Having the panel pick one (apparently on a whim) seems confusing and
sometimes startling.

Clicking on the icon does indeed show a menu where the status of the trackpad
and UPS batteries
gets displayed as horizontal bars, and the mouse gets displayed as a
partially-red-filled mouse
icon, so the information is indeed available. But some consistent
representation of the charge
state would be nicer, and without having to click to see it in this power menu.

  Consider the following example:

  $ sudo ip link set p2p1 vf 6 mac 36:c3:25:02:65:c4 vlan 300
  $ ip link show p2p1
  189: p2p1: BROADCAST,MULTICAST mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN mode DEFAULT
group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 0c:c4:7a:1e:ac:0e brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
  vf 0 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
  vf 1 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
  vf 2 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
  vf 3 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
  vf 4 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
  vf 5 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
  vf 6 MAC 36:c3:25:02:65:c4, spoof checking on, link-state auto

  As you can see, it was able to set MAC address, but silently ignored VLAN
setting.
  Now comes the interesting part, if I specify vlan first and then mac, things
work:

  $ sudo ip link set p2p1 vf 6 vlan 300 mac  36:c3:25:02:65:c5
  $ ip link show p2p1
  189: p2p1: BROADCAST,MULTICAST mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN mode DEFAULT
group default qlen 1000
  link/ether 0c:c4:7a:1e:ac:0e brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
  vf 0 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
  vf 1 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
  vf 2 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
  vf 3 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
  vf 4 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
  vf 5 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
  vf 6 MAC 36:c3:25:02:65:c5, vlan 300, spoof checking on, link-state auto

[Bug 1475129] [NEW] HP EliteBook 9480m and others crash when sleeping docked and resuming undocked

2015-07-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

** Affects: pm-utils (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 1292290] Re: [SRU] Window manager keybindings don't work after reboot

2015-07-15 Thread Chris McCormick
I am experiencing this same issue on Ubuntu 14.04 with xubuntu-desktop
installed.

To summarize:

 * I set a new keybinding in Settings - Window Manager. In my case it was
Alt-F1 to switch to workspace 1.
 * When I log out or reboot the key binding is lost and Alt-F1 does nothing.
Settings - Window Manager still says it's bound to Alt-F1 but it does not
function.
 * If I re-set the key by double-clicking Alt-F1 and then pressing Alt-F1
again it works.
 * In the file
`~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-keyboard-shortcuts.xml`
multiple definitions exist for the same key combination and also for
`workspace_1_key`.

I have tried the following fixes:

 * In Settings - Window Manager clear the key first. It shows Ctrl-F1 (the
old value) on the first click and then shows - the value I would expect on
the second click. I then re-bind the Alt-F1 key.
 * In Settings - Settings Manager - Settings Editor -
xfce4-keyboard-shortcuts I have tried un-clicking and re-clicking override
two times in a row.

I will report back as to whether these fixes work or not. Obviously this
should be fixed in the code though.

The error appears to originate in gl_program_family.cpp, so could be
driver specific. I'm using Intel i915.

[Bug 1475110] [NEW] Unneeded whitespaces

2015-07-15 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 15.10 dev with linux-image-generic 4.0.0.4.6 and I'm
noticing that /var/lib/dpkg/info/linux-image-4.0.0-4-generic.postrm
contains an unneeded whitespace at Examining /etc/kernel/postrm.d .\n
and Examining /etc/kernel/postrm.d/$version .\n while the other
scripts (prerm, postinst, preinst and postinst) are not containing a
whitespace at their related message (also I'm now noticing that the ones
without a whitespace are calling print STDERR while postrm is calling
warn in case this should be consistent too).

[Bug 1474910] Re: Desktop notifications not supported

2015-07-15 Thread Tim
vivid shipped with webkit2gtk 2.6 (you seem to be confusing with webkit1)
epiphany in wily is built against webkit2gtk 2.8, in fact that is a hard
dependency for 3.16.

Unfortuantely it is not possible to backport major releases to stable
release of Ubuntu, so this can't be fixed in vivid or earlier

This was reported on Launchpad:

by: https://bugs.launchpad.net/~markus-napp

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Do a right-click on the Quicklauncher and select Properties I see a window
Configure Quicklauncher.

Actual Results:
The scrollable area of the settings have French titles icone, commande,
nom instead of the English Icon and Command Name. The spacing, tooltips
and labels settings are also named in French: Espace entre les lanceurs,
afficher les tooltips, afficher les labels. I tested this with the German
language pack and my standard English working environment, all the texts change
except for those mentioned above. Maybe additional language support/translation
is needed.

Expected Results:
Text should match the locale of the system.

[Bug 1475078] [NEW] VirtIO is built-in, make it modular...

2015-07-15 Thread Thiago Martins
Public bug reported:

Guys,

Can Canonical ship Ubuntu with its Linux in a modular way?

Honestly, don't understand why some modules are compiled as built-in,
instead of modules, for example (NET/BLK/PCI/etc):

---
ubuntu@vivid-1:~$ grep VIRTIO /boot/config-3.19.0-23-generic
CONFIG_NET_9P_VIRTIO=m
CONFIG_VIRTIO_BLK=y
CONFIG_SCSI_VIRTIO=m
CONFIG_VIRTIO_NET=y
CONFIG_CAIF_VIRTIO=m
CONFIG_VIRTIO_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_HW_RANDOM_VIRTIO=m
CONFIG_VIRTIO=y
CONFIG_VIRTIO_PCI=y
CONFIG_VIRTIO_BALLOON=y
CONFIG_VIRTIO_MMIO=y
CONFIG_VIRTIO_MMIO_CMDLINE_DEVICES=y
---

While on Debian, it is all modular, as expected:

---
debian@jessie-1:~# grep VIRTIO /boot/config-3.16.0-4-amd64
CONFIG_NET_9P_VIRTIO=m
CONFIG_VIRTIO_BLK=m
CONFIG_SCSI_VIRTIO=m
CONFIG_VIRTIO_NET=m

I see no reason to load this modules in a non-virtualized environments.

Thoughts!?

[Bug 1453738] Re: installer in LVM mode sets up broken encrypted swap, using duplicate unencrypted swap

2015-07-15 Thread Vindicator
How does one test this when it happens during installation? Does the
15.04 installer ISO get updated? Can we specify the Live Installer flash
drive to apply the package via dpkg or apt-get?
