2016-08-20 Thread Lou
I just discovered that running "gksudo gnome-software" in terminal
starts the app normally. Don't know why this should be necessary but I
have changed the menu command accordingly as a workaround.

[Bug 1615269] [NEW] package tex-common 6.04 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2016-08-20 Thread Gideon Copestake
Public bug reported:

Upgraded from 14.04 LTS to 16.04 LTS and had error message about tex-
common; later in the upgrade process it said it was aborting the
installation.

Ubuntu stopped functioning in many ways - lost wifi and could not
restart via menu and resorted to a hard-shutdown, which appears to have
sorted them out now.

Not sure if that behaviour was anything to do with tex-common, but that
was the only error message. Never submitted a bug report before, so not
sure what else to put it here.

[Bug 1615293] [NEW] Remove node-mapnik 3.5.13+dfsg-1~exp2 from yakkety

2016-08-20 Thread Bas Couwenberg
Public bug reported:

The mapnik family of packages have been synced from Debian experimental
(without coordinating with the maintainers in Debian) because mapnik
3.0.11 doesn't support Boost 1.61.

Now that the DebianImportFreeze has started the final version (which
hasn't been released yet) won't be find its way into the yakkety
release.

Syncing the mapnik packages from Debian experimental was very premature.
In the future, please don't sync packages from experimental unless
explicitly asked to by the maintainers in Debian, or talk to maintainers
in Debian before doing so.

The mapnik family of packages in their current shape should not ship
with yakkety, please remove them before the yakkety release.

In the future, when packages break due to transitions as these, remove
the packages (or move them to proposed) instead of diverging from
Debian. Packages in universe are pretty much unmaintained in Ubuntu, and
removing such packages is preferable over shipping not properly
integrated packages.

[Bug 1178272] Re: Without pulseaudio, banshee and rhythmbox report "jack server is not running or cannot be started" and do not play

2016-08-20 Thread gmorehou
This is still a problem in Lubuntu 16.04. gstreamer1.0-pulseaudio is
installed by default (presumably following Ubuntu), gstreamer1.0-alsa is
not.

'sudo apt install gstreamer1.0-alsa' fixes the problem. Gstreamer apps
such as banshee now output audio instead of silence.

I will file a bug against lubuntu-desktop and reference this bug.

Confirmed using Xubuntu 16.04 with the Kokodi theme. (I use this theme to give

Thank you Aielyn for your diagnosis, thanks to which I can use the workaround

[Bug 1615304] Re: running the atom editor and pressing alt-tab causes compiz to freeze and crash

2016-08-20 Thread Gonçalo Gomes
The same sort of behaviour has been experienced, although not as easily
reproducible, when using firefox with multiple open windows spread
across different workspaces.

** Description changed:

[Bug 1615305] [NEW] Output when changing comment is weird and badly documented

2016-08-20 Thread Karol Babioch
Public bug reported:

Changing a key comment within a private key might not be something you
do on a daily basis, but it is mostly a frustrating task, since the
documentation is incomplete and wrong. In particular the man page says:

-c Requests changing the comment in the private and public key
files. This operation is only supported for RSA1 keys and keys stored in the
newer OpenSSH
format. The program will prompt for the file containing the
private keys, for the passphrase if the key has one, and for the new comment.

So, one gets the impression that this is not applicable to newer keys.
However bug #811125 dealt with this, and there was a commit (see [1])
that added support for basically all key types. In the case of RSA keys
one has to use the new key format though (-o), which can only be find
out with trial and error and is not documented at all.

Furthermore the output of an actual ssh-keygen run is also confusing:

[kbabioch@antares .ssh]$ ssh-keygen -c -C "new comment" -f id_rsa -o
Enter passphrase:
Key now has comment '(null)'
The comment in your key file has been changed.

The output tells me that the key is now empty (null). However the
comment is correctly set, so while this works as intended, it is
confusing to the user.

[Bug 1615304] [NEW] running the atom editor and pressing alt-tab causes compiz to freeze and crash

2016-08-20 Thread Gonçalo Gomes
Public bug reported:

Running the atom editor (www.atom.io) on ubuntu 14.04 with gnome-panel +
compiz leads to compiz crash when pressing alt-tab to switch to a
different window.

Reproduces every time.

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System
-> About Ubuntu

Description:Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS
Release:14.04

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or
by checking in Software Center
compiz:

  Installed: 1:0.9.11.3+14.04.20160425-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1:0.9.11.3+14.04.20160425-0ubuntu1

 1:0.9.11+14.04.20140409-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://ie.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64 Packages

3) What you expected to happen

I expected ctrl-tab to switch me to a different window.

4) What happened instead

The environment freezes, despite mouse still moving. No application or
item in the windowing system responds and ultimately compiz crashes (~5
seconds later), leading up to black screen followed by a default
graphical login prompt.

This bug is fully reproducible in my environment and I'm eager to help
debug it.

[Bug 1615326] [NEW] volume control UI too sticky (Lubuntu 16.04)

2016-08-20 Thread gmorehou
Public bug reported:

This bug is regarding the volume control applet/widget/whatever in
Lubuntu 16.04 in lxpanel.

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS

Upon clicking the volume control icon, a slider pops up. Upon clicking
anywhere else on the display, in other windows, in the panel itself, the
slider remains visible and on top of most other elements on the display
with one notable exception, context menus from other panel applets (or
at least the context menu from network connections applet).

WHAT I EXPECT TO HAPPEN

Upon clicking the volume control icon, a slider pops up. Upon clicking
anywhere else on the display, the slider should disappear.

[Bug 1441253] Re: hanging suspend job prevents shutdown

2016-08-20 Thread Alberto Santini
I could not agree more with Robert Jansen, as I also think the problem
is caused by the systemd plague. Steps to reproduce on a Thinkpad X1
Carbon 4th gen:

1) Turn on; shutdown -h now => no problem;
2) Turn on; sleep (e.g. close lid); wake up (e.g. open lid); shutdown -h now =>
problem!

Doing a ps aux | grep systemd, however, does not show any systemd-sleep
process that might be hanging.

[Bug 1615321] [NEW] Caller's name too small on Aquaris E4.5

2016-08-20 Thread N. Gineer
Public bug reported:

On the BQ Aquaris E4.5, when the phone rings, the font of the caller's
name is only ~1.5 mm high. This is not large enough to identify the
caller in every situation (e.g. when the phone cannot be held steadily).
Because this info has to be legible immediately, and in situations when
the usage of the phone was not expected, I think the font size should be
at least about the one used in the dialer-app in the "Calling" screen,
or even larger.

2016-08-20 Thread cltien
I noticed that my /run mounted as tmpfs and is 371M and just used 1.5M.
There is still plenty of room.

My system is installed in the second disk (/dev/sdb1) and boot loader in
/dev/sda is the grub.

After the installation failed, I can find the vmlinuz and initrd.img are
already installed in the /boot. One thing odd is that the driver
/lib/modules/ took 192M, while the newly installed
/lib/modules/3.16.0-73-generic used 33M and the same size by
/lib/modules/3.16.0-76-generic.

This drive is a flash drive, and I didn't find any error logged with the
'dmesg' command.

The same error still happened without any clue.

[Bug 1615314] [NEW] It struggles to start

2016-08-20 Thread el_gallo_azul
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System
-> About Ubuntu

Description:Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS
Release:14.04

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
pkgname' or by checking in Software Center

rhythmbox:
  Installed: 3.0.2-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 3.0.2-0ubuntu2
  Version table:

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 3.0.2-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/ubuntu/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64
Packages

3) What you expected to happen

The application starts easily and quickly

4) What happened instead

4.1 As soon as starting the app, the screen greys out, as if running low
on system resources. I can now rule that possibility out, because I had
only just booted, I had not started any other applications, and this
computer has LOADS of memory and LOADS of processing power. This
'greying out' lasts for about 30 seconds or so, and I cannot use the
application at all during this time.

4.2 Also right near the end of this 'greying out' time, an error message
appears, saying "The application Rhythmbox has closed unexpectedly",
despite the fact that the application Rhythmbox HAS NOT closed. I attach
a screenshot of the message.

This bug has been occurring for more than a year, and occurs EVERY TIME
that I start the application.

[Bug 1615316] [NEW] gnome/xorg crashes when I run libreoffice

2016-08-20 Thread themusicgod1
Public bug reported:

steps to reproduce
1) using commandline, open any document in libreoffice
2) libreoffice startup banner pops up, pointer disappears(?)
3) pointer reappears, "libreoffice 5.1: recovering document, status of
recovered documents... " window appears.
on either "start recovery" or "discard recovery data" buttons being clicked,
the screen flickers black, and the login prompt for gnome is shown, as if I
logged completely out of gnome (mate)

this did not happen with 15.10, only started once I installed 16.04.

[Bug 1615184] Re: systemd update breaks screen lock, dpms, startup programs

2016-08-20 Thread Rocko
Reading the associated Debian bug (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=834367), it's a different one from this bug. That
bugs refers to issues after running systemctl daemon-reexec (which
happens when systemd is upgraded) caused by keypresses being sent to a
tty console as well as to the X session, and the workaround is to
reboot. This bug occurs with the latest systemd installed even after a
reboot, and is not related to the systemd upgrade process.

I have certainly seen all those issues when systemd is upgraded (usually
one of my monitors turns off, even though it is set to be on; I have
seen the keypresses echoed to a tty console; I have had the system
reboot on CTRL-ALT-DEL even though I was in an X-session; and I have
seen it switch to tty consoles unexpectedly from an X-session).

So just to be clear: _this_ bug occurs after any number of reboots with
systemd 231-4 installed. It does not occur with systemd 231-1 installed.
It does not appear to be related to http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=834367. (Really, I would not have reported a bug
if I knew there was an upgraded version of the relevant package
available.)
