[Bug 1650336] Re: NFS client : kernel 4.4.0-57 crash with nfsv4 enries in /etc/fstab

2017-01-30 Thread Thomas Fili
Hm, sorry i hope there was no misunderstanding ?!

As i mentioned some times before, there was a strange behaviour when i test the
kernels the first time.
Sometimes a kernel boot successfully for one or two times and crash not before
the third try ...

I could reproduce this behaviour on different computers, but at the
beginning of the tests i declare kernel would be ok by mistake this way.
Maybe someone else are able to explain such a behaviour ...

When i tested the kernels the second time, i try to boot every kernel
three time to ensure getting the correct tag.

Sorry again, for the unnecessary work

[Bug 1659988] Re: Firefox apparmor profile: /usr/bin/python3: error while loading shared libraries: cannot apply additional memory protection after relocation: Permission denied

2017-01-30 Thread Roberto
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1659922 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1659922

Just my 2 cents: we had the same problem here after the Firefox 51.0.1 update
(just one machine is affected anyway, the others updated with no problem). The
error message is NOT related to python, but I get graphics errors like the ones
seen in bug #1643200:
[GFX1]: Failed 2 buffer db=0 dw=0 for 0, 0, 1920, 876
[GFX1]: Failed 2 buffer db=0 dw=0 for 0, 0, 1920, 876
[GFX1]: Failed 2 buffer db=0 dw=0 for 0, 0, 1920, 876
Anyway, excluding Firefox from Apparmor (as with the OP's first suggestion)
works around the problem. My suspect is bad interaction with the driver for the
videocard of that specific machine on which we have the problem.

No that it is not good. This is completely irresponsible and lame.

It is a shame, that so important software is a part of core Ubuntu
system. Canonical should reconsider using it. Because backup is critical
and if DejaDup is a part of a core system, people rely on it.

[Bug 1660353] [NEW] thumbnails disappear when scrolling in thumbnails pane

2017-01-30 Thread Krister
Public bug reported:

1. open a many-page (at least 15 pages) document
2. open the thumbnails pane
3. click on a thumbnail
4. scroll up and down until the thumbnails (including outlines disappear)

Obviously, we expect for the thumbnails to stay visible. To make then
visible again, move the pointer to the main document window, and then
back to the thumbnails. Each one will reappear as you move the pointer
over it.

This is not the same as bug 1369028 as evince does not hang.
This is not the same as bug 1629633, as there is still a thumbnail border for
that document, and under no circumstances will the thumbnail appear.

[Bug 1647204] Re: 1.8.0-2 FTBFS in zesty 17.04

2017-01-30 Thread Andre Heinecke
I don't think Barry included the patch against entropy starvation in his
PPA so It's expected that it would hang.

I've discussed possibly high resource usage of the gpgme test suite
(there were also other complaints) and we reduced it accordingly:
https://git.gnupg.org/cgi-
bin/gitweb.cgi?p=gpgme.git;a=commitdiff;h=7bd6ab4a91d43d7cbf5d347c0c12e0e4f9f7e3bf

This might fix the armhf error in t-thread-keylist-verify

Is there still something open here that would block GpgME-1.8 from
making it into ubuntu?

Otherwise we'll probably also release a new GpgME Version including
these changes soon.

It even gets better: The person who posted these

And from my side, I can say that these issues all have gone (already

[Bug 1650336] Re: NFS client : kernel 4.4.0-57 crash with nfsv4 enries in /etc/fstab

2017-01-30 Thread Seth Forshee
There were two commits to sunrpc between 4.4.0-38 and 4.4.0-42 which
came from upstream 4.4 stable.

4bb0ea1f3289 SUNRPC: Handle EADDRNOTAVAIL on connection failures
8785a1d6c5b3 SUNRPC: allow for upcalls for same uid but different gss service

There's a later commit which says it fixes problems with the latter of
these, and specifically mentions a NULL derefernce in rpc_pipe_read:

1cded9d2974f SUNRPC: fix refcounting problems with auth_gss messages.

That one should be coming from upstream stable too, but it looks like we
don't have it yet.

Joe, could you provide Thomas with a test kernel containing that fix
that he can test? Thanks.

[Bug 573618] Re: Installer does not detect hard drive partitions

2017-01-30 Thread DrPsychick
I'm new to launchpad, but I've been using Ubuntu personally and at work for
many years now. I never had this problem until yesterday.
A 250GB Disk with Ubuntu 14.04 32bit installed. Put it into a new computer
which is capable of 64bit. Realized that a reinstall would be the best option
and rebooted with Ubuntu 14.04 USB stick to install Ubuntu.

Same error: Step 3 "Installation Type" shows the disk in the dropdown
without a name and absolutely no partitions -> no way to install. The
disk is fine though, I can even boot the 32bit Ubuntu etc.

After stumbling upon this thread, doing a simple "dmraid -r -E", I could
install just fine.
The disk was NEVER used in a raid, Ubuntu 32bit was installed from CDROM or USB
stick as well without any issues.

Seems to happen not very often, but to improve ubiquity I would too
suggest to check for broken raid metadata and inform the user instead of
leaving him in the dark.

Applied as a patch to v1.8, the first hunk of that modifying
/tests/gpg/t-gpgconf.c fails to apply due to other commits since v1.8.

I am not 100% certain if it is redundant on the older revision, or not.

Presumably the Qt test issue for arm64 would still exist, although from
my perspective that is not critical, or maybe fixable later.

Whether it would block things, I am not sure.

@thomas303 I can't apply the patch, it's a production machine. Besides,
I don't understand which file has to be patched (I figured it was
/usr/bin/firefox, but it doesn't contain any of the words found in the
patch). Thanks anyway, I just wanted to highlight the fact that Python
is probably not the cause, but ratherconflicts with problem drivers.

[Bug 1654288] Re: NFSv4 open(O_CREAT|O_EXCL) creates file with bad mode

2017-01-30 Thread Matthieu Herrb
This patch fixes the issue here: http://marc.info/?l=linux-
nfs=148527567624411=2

** Patch added: "[PATCH] NFSv4.0: always send mode in SETATTR after EXCLUSIVE4"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-meta-lts-xenial/+bug/1654288/+attachment/4810884/+files/coddington.diff

** Description changed:

After upgrading my machine to Ubuntu 16.04, I noticed that 'git clone'
started creating files with wrong mode (0700 instead of 0644
typically) on NFSv4 partitions mounted from our NetApp servers.

I've first tracked this down to the fact that git uses

-  open(name, O_RDWR|O_CREAT|O_EXCL, 0666);
+  open(name, O_RDWR|O_CREAT|O_EXCL, 0666);

to create files. If O_EXCL is not present, the files are created
  normally.

I've tried various kernels from Ubuntu and the problems appeared
between their 4.2.0-42-generic kernel-image (as found on willy) and
the 4.4.0 kernels found on xenial. I tried building 4.9 from
kernel.org and the problem is also there.

I've then bisected the kernel to figure out that this is caused by the
  following commit:

-
https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=5334c
- +5bdac926c5f8d89729beccb46fe88eda9e7

https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=5334c5bdac926c5f8d89729beccb46fe88eda9e7

ie NFS: Send attributes in OPEN request for NFS4_CREATE_EXCLUSIVE4_1

  Our NetApp filers are running:

[Bug 1572801] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 Unity desktop uses much more ram than Ubuntu 15.10

2017-01-30 Thread Marcantonio
This is affecting our servers, which we just upgraded to 16.04. No
unity or gnome or any of that. Memory, for any application it seems,
just grows more rapidly. I'm convinced this is related to the kernel.

I hate to be the guy to say this, but why isn't this a bigger deal?

I've tried 4.4.0-59 and 4.8.0-34. I haven't seen any improvement.

[Bug 1539621] Re: Add an option to cancel pending snooze

2017-01-30 Thread GT
Being highly irritated by the current (non)communication regarding
Ubuntu Touch, I would like to ask about the future regarding this bug
(and bugs like this).

The "option to cancel pending snooze" is a feature which is neccessary
for a mobile OS, independently whether it will be called Ubuntu Touch or
Ubuntu Personal, whether it uses click or snap.

I am curious to know what the future approach is to tackle this bug (and

[Bug 1658792] Re: libopenscap8: Enable SCE option to make broader SCAP content available for Ubuntu users

2017-01-30 Thread Alan Guan
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

Canonical security certification team is implementing SCAP content based
on CIS and STIG compliance rules. A good portion of these rules are
beyond the scope of SCAP and OVAL, and will require the Script Check
Engine (SCE) facility provided by OpenSCAP.

SCE is not enabled by default, and will require the addition of the
"--enable-sce" option in the "debian/rules" file to turn it on. The
attached patch has all the necessary code change.

-
  [Test Case]

run the command "oscap --v", and without the SCE option, content under
" Capabilities added by auto-loaded plugins " will be empty.
With the SCE option turned on, we'll see the following:

- Capabilities added by auto-loaded plugins
-SCE Version: 1.0 (from libopenscap_sce.so.8)
+     Capabilities added by auto-loaded plugins
+    SCE Version: 1.0 (from libopenscap_sce.so.8)

+ [Regression Potential]

- [Regression Potential]
+ The changes proposed just enables new code and does not change the
+ behavior of existing code.

- Using the same patch attached to this bug report, Canonical security
- certification team has created a PPA here:
- https://launchpad.net/~guanym/+archive/ubuntu/ppa. The team is actively
- using the PPA to develop SCAP content, including shell and python
- scripts for SCE consumption. No regression has been noticed.
+ Using the same patch attached to this bug report, Canonical security
certification team has created a PPA here:
https://launchpad.net/~guanym/+archive/ubuntu/ppa. The team is actively using
the PPA to develop SCAP content, including shell and python scripts for SCE
consumption. We also ran the following tests with and without the proposed
changes:
+ -- Without the proposed changes, ran scans using OpenSCAP against SCAP
content with about 35 diverse rules based on CIS benchmark, and saved the xml
scan result. The content included a rule that requires SCE support, and the
rule simply evaluated to "not checked", which is expected since SCE support is
not included with OpenSCAP without the proposed changes.
+ -- With the proposed changes, ran scan against the same SCAP content, and
saved the xml scan result. The result was identical with the only exception
that the SCE rule evaluated properly, since the SCE support is included in
OpenSCAP after making the proposed changes.
+
+ We also have been running similar scans against an ever growing SCAP
+ content base 20~30 times on a daily basis, and OpenSCAP behaved the same
+ way as before the SCE functionality was enabled.

  [Other Info]

A similar bug report has been submitted to Debian.

  [Test Case]

run the command "oscap --v", and without the SCE option, content under
" Capabilities added by auto-loaded plugins " will be empty.
With the SCE option turned on, we'll see the following:

      Capabilities added by auto-loaded plugins
     SCE Version: 1.0 (from libopenscap_sce.so.8)

  [Regression Potential]

- The changes proposed just enables new code and does not change the
- behavior of existing code.
+ The changes proposed enables new functionality that is already included
+ in the source package, and does not change the behavior of existing code
+ significantly.

- Using the same patch attached to this bug report, Canonical security
certification team has created a PPA here:
https://launchpad.net/~guanym/+archive/ubuntu/ppa. The team is actively using
the PPA to develop SCAP content, including shell and python scripts for SCE
consumption. We also ran the following tests with and without the proposed
changes:
- -- Without the proposed changes, ran scans using OpenSCAP against SCAP
content with about 35 diverse rules based on CIS benchmark, and saved the xml
scan result. The content included a rule that requires SCE support, and the
rule simply evaluated to "not checked", which is expected since SCE support is
not included with OpenSCAP without the proposed changes.
- -- With the proposed changes, ran scan against the same SCAP content, and
saved the xml scan result. The result was identical with the only exception
that the SCE rule evaluated properly, since the SCE support is included in
OpenSCAP after making the proposed changes.
+ Using the same patch attached to this bug report, Canonical security
+ certification team has created a PPA here:

[Bug 1652270] Re: Could not boot into RPi3 with kernel 4.4.0-1038-raspi2

2017-01-30 Thread Joachim Marthinsen Giæver
Can i ask where this config.txt file is located?

I experience this bug now, so I dont know if it's related to the topic
here, or if its a new one. Haven't installed the "broken" kernels (1038
or newer), and it have working flawlessly - until I rebooted yesterday.
Now I'm stuck in this loop.

But, I cant seem to find the config.txt file, but i can find
/boot/config-4.4.0-1009-raspi2. But the variables you're referring to
aren't in this file.

[Bug 1659950] Re: rsync -u --inplace --partial -a can't resume transfer

2017-01-30 Thread Nahuel Greco
Researching more, I see POSIX has NO way to disable mtime updating while
calling write()'s, so there is no way to atomically leave a partial file
with an mtime=0 mark while using --inplace.

"rsync --update --partial" (no --inplace) can do it because it transfers
first to a temporal file, then updates his mtime (to 0 if unsuccessful,
or to the original file mtime if transfer completed), and then
rename()'s the file.

So now I think this can't be solved, but a warning should be placed in
the rsync manpage about this "-u --partial" unexpected behavior. Take
this as a documentation bug.

[Bug 1660280] [NEW] Users get misleading warning at first login when nautilus-admin is installed

2017-01-30 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
Public bug reported:

When I install nautilus-admin package on Ubuntu, then all users get
misleading warning at first login after installation:

"The file manager must be restarted in order to start the Nautilus Admin
extension."

This warning should be moved from nautilus-admin package debian/postinst
script to package's description or /usr/share/doc/nautilus-
admin/README.Debian, because of 2 reasons:

1. User's should not be disturbed about installed nautilus extensions,
this info is useful only for system administrator, so, it belongs to
package's description or /usr/share/doc/nautilus-admin/README.Debian

2. Prompting "every" user instead of system administrator violates
Debian policy, see www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-
binary.html#s-maintscriptprompt

Prompting must be done by *communicating through a program, such as
debconf*, which conforms to the Debian Configuration Management
Specification, version 2 or higher.

was a complete uninstall of mysql and mariadb and a clean install of
mariadb. Especially the fact that Gerardo tries to connect to a mysql
server, but mysql-server-5.7 is not installed on his/her machine makes
me think that mariadb might be involed, because I got equal error
messages.

Maybe this is related to #1490071

my setup: ubuntu 16.04, amd64, mysql Ver 15.1 Distrib 10.0.29-MariaDB

[Bug 170225] Re: relative image paths instead of absolute

2017-01-30 Thread jazzynico
@Jarl, I can confirm that Inkscape crashes when linking a JPG and a GIF
file with 0.91 for Windows 8 -64-bit). The good news is that I can't
reproduce the bug with 0.92 on the same computer.

As of the file with both relative and absolute links, I can't reproduce the
crash at all, even with 0.91. Could you please try with 0.92 and confirm it's
fixed? If not please open a new specific report.
Thanks for your comments!

[Bug 1660333] [NEW] python3-aiohttp depends on python3-multidict < 2.0

2017-01-30 Thread yope
Public bug reported:

DISTRIB_RELEASE=16.10 (Yakkety)

Package: python3-aiohttp
Version: 0.22.4-1

and

Package: python-multidict
Version: 2.0.1-1

python3-aiohttp is not compatible with python3-multidict versions 2.0 and
higher.
Unfortunately yakkety only ships multidict version 2.0.1 at the time of
reporting this.

As a consequence, python3-aiohttp is broken and just does not work at
all.

Running the example web-server from the documentation:

async def hello(request):
return web.Response(body=b"Hello, world")

app = web.Application()
app.router.add_route('GET', '/', hello)
web.run_app(app)

Will always return 405: Method Not Allowed

It should instead return a web-page saying "Hello World".

Either python3-aiohttp needs to be upgraded to version 1.0 or newer, or
python3-multidict version 1.2.2 needs be be provided as install candidate.
I suppose updating python3-aiohttp is easier in this case, and preferred anyway.

** Affects: python-aiohttp (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
