[Bug 1001405] Re: "on startup"-ed pidgin's window does not restore

2017-11-03 Thread Seventy Nine
I had the same / a similar issue today. The Pidgin window was not
showing up, after I killed the Pidgin process, since it was hanging when
shutting down normally.

The shutdown was not commencing at this point:
(10:48:26) proxy: Connection in progress
dns[13098]: nobody needs me... =(
(10:48:55) prefs: /pidgin/blist/list_visible changed, scheduling save.
(10:49:01) util: Writing file prefs.xml to directory /home/*/.purple
(10:49:01) util: Writing file /home/*/.purple/prefs.xml

The reason why I tried to restart Pidgin was my Office Communicator
(SIPE) plugin (running at current latest version 1.23.0), which was not
able to connect to our Lync server (which itself has probably the issue
at the moment).

Then I tried to restart Pidgin and it was not showing up anymore. The reason is
the /pidgin/blist/list_visible property which have been changed to 0 in the
previous shutdown. When I switched it back to 1 in the
/home/*/.purple/prefs.xml like:

[...]

[...]

The Pidgin window is showing up again.

[Bug 1724752] Re: No headphones sound after a boot up

2017-11-03 Thread Marys
I've tested this problem on the v4.14 kernel.

To be specific:
$ uname -a
Linux tuturu 4.14.0-041400rc7-generic #201710292231 SMP Sun Oct 29 22:32:07 UTC
2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The problem is still there. I'm not sure if it could be pulseaudio, ALSA
fault or something specific to Linux Mint 18.2.

[Bug 1729536] Re: InnoDB: Failing assertion: sym_node->table != NULL

2017-11-03 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi Olaf,
there seem to be some related known issues in percona/mysql, see bug 1399471
for more details and follow referenced further bugs from there.

I'll explicitly subscribe Lars to take a look, but as printed in the
error message it would be great if you could file (and mention the
number here) a bug at [1] the upstream bug tracker for mysql. They might
have a backportable fix known already.

You'd have to check if [2] or [3] are your case already.

In general many of the issues seem related to e.g. migrating from
percona - does your setup have any percona history that could be
related?

[Bug 1729637] Re: Samba mount/umount in docker container triggers kernel Oops

2017-11-03 Thread Fabian Holler
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected uec-images xenial

** Description changed:

When running 2 docker containers, one as samba server and another one as
samba client that mounts and umounts a smb share a kernel OOps can be
  triggered on multiple kernels.

  The kernel message:
unregister_netdevice: waiting for lo to become free. Usage count = 1
shows up, some minutes later the oops and/or warnings happens.

The scripts to trigger the kernel Oops can be found at:
https://github.com/fho/docker-samba-loop
I was able to reproduce kernel Oopses on a clean Ubuntu 16.0.4 installation
with:

  - linux-image-4.4.0-93-generic=4.4.0-93.116~14.04.1
  - linux-image-4.10.0-32-generic=4.10.0-32.36~16.04.1
  - linux-image-4.11.0-14-generic=4.11.0-14.20~16.04.1

In a different scenario were Ubuntu 16.04 servers were running multiple
docker containers with Nginx or small network applications in parallel,
I was also able to reproduce the kernel Oopses also on:

  - linux-image-4.10.0-1004-gcp
  - linux-image-4.12.10-041210-generic=4.12.10-041210.20170830

I haven't tried again to reproduce it with those kernels on a clean Ubuntu
installation and unfortunately didn't kept the kernel logs.

The "unregister_netdevice: waiting for lo to become free. Usage count =
  1" messages are related to
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1711407 which is
  handled as separate issue.

According to https://github.com/moby/moby/issues/35068 the crash is fixed by:
  https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/801533/

[Bug 1698788] Re: package mysql-server-5.6 5.6.16-1~exp1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

2017-11-03 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi,
this is a Ubuntu 16.04 System.
Which a while ago correctly installed mysql 5.7.18-0ubuntu0.16.04.1

But now apt sources got changed to downgrade to 5.6 5.6.16-1~exp1 which
is from trusty, and even there not the latest but the release version.

This causes:
If are sure you want to downgrade to 5.6, remove the file
/var/lib/mysql/debian-*.flag and try installing again.
dpkg: error processing archive
/var/cache/apt/archives/mysql-server-5.6_5.6.16-1~exp1_amd64.deb (--unpack):
subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

And it probably causes many more issues and is an unsupported case.

[Bug 1729836] [NEW] update-initramfs generating unbootable initrd files

(full screenshot at https://photos.app.goo.gl/XLNKOM3cDNHsfyFt2).

Examining the initrd files, here is a good one, as installed by the
Ubuntu 17.10 installer:

# file /boot/initrd.img-4.13.0-16-generic
/boot/initrd.img-4.13.0-16-generic: ASCII cpio archive (SVR4 with no CRC)
# ls -la /boot/initrd.img-4.13.0-16-generic
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 50764087 Nov 3 21:02 /boot/initrd.img-4.13.0-16-generic

and here is the file after 'update-initramfs -u -k 4.13.0-16-generic':

# file /boot/initrd.img-4.13.0-16-generic
/boot/initrd.img-4.13.0-16-generic: gzip compressed data, last modified: Thu
Nov 2 10:51:42 2017, from Unix
root@jturner-home:/boot# ls -la /boot/initrd.img-4.13.0-16-generic
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 50895514 Nov 3 21:01 /boot/initrd.img-4.13.0-16-generic

Good and bad initrds can be downloaded from
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1reMWj1TohrQ4K5EbBMJPhw4xXUdBi0K9?usp=sharing

After downloading initrd.img-4.13.0-16-generic-broken, the panic can be
replicated in qemu with:

kvm -m 1G -kernel /boot/vmlinuz-4.13.0-16-generic -initrd
/boot/initrd.img-4.13.0-16-generic-broken

(tip obtained from https://lists.debian.org/debian-
kernel/2016/02/msg00323.html)

I've experienced this problem with Ubuntu 17.04 and 17.10 on two
separate PCs (both Dell OptiPlex 990s). Ubuntu boots fine initially,
until one day I update the kernel or something, and a .deb postinst
script calls update-initramfs and trashes that kernel's initrd file. If
I run 'update-initramfs -u -k all', all my old initrd files are toast.

The "good" initrd format "ASCII cpio archive (SVR4 with no CRC)" is
strange. I'm not getting many google hits on it. None of my other
Ubuntu/Debian servers use that format in their initrds.

[Bug 1449951] Re: tomcat7 in ubuntu trusty is affected by the '50 days timeout bug' when run by the Oracle JDK 7

2017-11-03 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi I'm clearing bugs on our list that were dormant for too long.
The fix was actually applied to 7.0.55, so >=Xenial is good.

The fix itself would be:

[Bug 1672297] Re: gnome-shell uses lots of memory, and grows over time

2017-11-03 Thread Paul
I've installed most of the debug symbol packages, and the attached
Massif profile has far fewer unknowns. However, this isn't a proper run,
because when I try to log in now, gnome-shell grinds for a minute or so
and then quits. Works fine without Valgrind, of course. I suspect it has
some form of watchdog timer and is killing itself.

[Bug 1615694] Re: [860730] Host experiencing constant session termination and recreation while using jumbo frames

2017-11-03 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi Clayton,
I'm cleaning up bugs that work was going on but were forgotten for whatever
reason.
Sorry for the delay (again I should say).

To build and use from source you can:
# Build from git
$ git clone https://github.com/open-iscsi/open-iscsi.git
$ sudo apt build-dep open-iscsi
$ sudo apt-get install libssl-dev
$ cd open-iscsi
# Now this step depends on compiler, libs and more - e.g. I had to comment a
few lines in include/iscsi_proto.h whicih were now in the linux-headers before
being able to build correctly
$ make
$ make install
# Remove the packages version, but backup config
$ cp -a /etc/iscsi ~/iscsi-etc-backup
$ apt remove --purge open-iscsi
# Install what you just built and make it usable
$ systemctl daemon-reload
$ systemctl start open-iscsi
$ systemctl status open-iscsi

As usual you have the config in "/etc/iscsi/" and can try to experiment with
that.
Use your backup at ~/iscsi-etc-backup to configure it as similar as possible to
the former case.

I updated my BIOS to the current version
~ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
JBET66WW (1.30 )
09/13/2017

It didn't fix the [Firmware Bug] lines in the syslog though
Also the actual bug still appears. There seem to be some lines in the log that
I haven't seen before though

Nov 3 12:37:05 xxx kernel: [ 8137.161988] [drm:pipe_config_err [i915]] *ERROR*
mismatch in pixel_rate (expected 148500, found 296999)

)
Nov 3 12:37:05 xxx kernel: [ 8137.162076] [drm:pipe_config_err [i915]] *ERROR*
mismatch in port_clock (expected 27, found 54)
Nov 3 12:37:05 xxx kernel: [ 8137.162078] pipe state doesn't match!

Can you advise on how to narrow down the error to the actual state where it
happens?
Can it be achieved through changing settings in /etc/systemd/logind.conf?
Because currently the only way to reproduce it is locking the screen while the
computer is sitting in the docking station and come back after a longer period
of time (e.g. 30 minutes)

[Bug 1725190] Re: Please update modemmanager in xenial to the 1.6 series

2017-11-03 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
The main requirement is that those patches need to be first present in
the devel series (so in bionic). I would propose forwarding them
upstream and then actually distro-patching them into the current version
in bionic. We can then easily pull those into zesty and xenial.

Are there any mysql services still running, like sharing with another version
running concurrently.
It also could be a daemon that aborted in a really bad state.
You could start checking if that file is actually open by any process via using
"lsof".

Most similar cases [1] also seem to point to still running processes that you
have to clean up.
As I suggested lsof is probably the best start tp get this sorted out.

I didn't hear of any plan to backport 3.6

If the issue you referenced is a common one you hit we would need to
think on backporting the fix for it in the SRU [1] process.

Do you have a list of steps to reproduce the issue, so that one could test a
potential backport of at least the fixes that soemwhat apply back to Xenial?

[Bug 1721272] Re: Create 'ua' symlink pointing at 'ubuntu-advantage'

2017-11-03 Thread Andreas Hasenack
I don't think I can mess with past changelog entries. We have a ppa with
daily builds for this, and there is also a sort of chicken an egg
problem: this is a native package (for reasons). The upstream code has a
debian/ directory in it. So everytime I *want* to make an ubuntu
release, I have to add a d/changelog entry to the upstream tarball.
Whether it *gets* into ubuntu or not, I don't know at that time, since I
can't upload it. Turns out that first new name attempt was rejected, and
we are now with this "ua" shorter one.

Thanks Paul.

For readability you might want to just run 'ms_print massif.out.3205'
and attach the output of that in future.

[Bug 1672297] Re: gnome-shell uses lots of memory, and grows over time

2017-11-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Actually it's not the "top" of the output that's interesting. The
snapshot #1 just shows where memory went initially on start-up (to
loading images). That doesn't represent the ongoing growth problem
though. You need to scroll down to later snapshots in the ms_print
output to see where the growth is coming from, like snapshot 51:

 47 68,075,238,605 72,060,280 63,908,218 8,152,0620

So you then need debug symbols for libraries like:
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgobject-2.0.so.0.5400.1
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mutter/libmutter-clutter-1.so
  /usr/lib/libgjs.so.0.0.0
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libmozjs-52.so.0.0.0

Which sounds like it's getting closer to the core of the problem.

Since upstream requires Oracle accounts I don't file bugs there anymore..
Note that we're running 5.7.20, I'm not sure why any backporting would
be required.

[2] doesn't seem applicable as our crash doesn't happen consistently at
startup.

Not sure about [3]

I didn't setup the server but I don't think so.

I think it was first installed with Ubuntu 16.04.. didn't that include
MySQL 5.7 already? If so, I don't think there were any upgrades.

So much as reported.

[Bug 1725954] Re: It is hard and nonintuitive to switch to console ttys on Ubuntu 17.10

2017-11-03 Thread Jeffery To
Turns out this is the default for gdm. According to this blog post:

http://rubereality.com/2012/11/08/change-the-vt-setup-with-gdm-3-6-1-and-systemd/
(Wayback Machine:
https://web.archive.org/web/20141228051646/http://rubereality.com/2012/11/08/change-the-vt-setup-with-gdm-3-6-1-and-systemd/
 )

changing it back to previous behaviour will require recompiling gdm :-(

[Bug 1729736] Re: 10de:1c8c [MSI] Module nouveau fails to manage GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Mobile

2017-11-03 Thread Etienne URBAH
With nouveau enabled in Linux kernel 4.13.0-16 on GP107M [GeForce GTX
1050 Ti Mobile], 'lspci' systematically makes nouveau fail (1 CPU
stuck), and returns nothing.

This is the reason why I could NOT submit this issue using 'apport-bug',
and why 'apport-collect' returns nothing.

But I can try other commands permitting to obtain relevant information.

[Bug 1727318] Re: I can not change Wallpaper after Ubuntu 17.10 Update

2017-11-03 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

2017-11-03 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

I also did some testing and the only case that won't work without either
the hook, or using the IP_FREEBIND socket option, is when ListenAddress
is set to an IP that doesn't exist yet. Meaning, sshd won't listen on
that IP when it comes up.

Maybe people caught in this corner case should use 0.0.0.0 (or the IPv6
equivalent) for ListenAddress and firewall rules to control which
traffic can reach the sshd daemon. That's the only way in artful now
anyway.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2017-11-03 Thread Mikhail V. Golubev
> Try gnome-tweak-tool, as Norbert wrote, "Additional Layout Options".

In Wayland (libinput) keyboard key combinations work on key press (not on key
release).
So if I set Ctrl+Shift combination for switching layout (changing keyboard
language) in "Additional Layout Options", after that I can't use any other
Ctrl+Shift+AnyKey combinations. For example a I can't reopen closed tabs in
Web-browser (Chrome/Firefox) using Ctrl+Shift+T key combination.

How to change this wayland/libinput behavior?
I want use Ctrl+Shift for swithing keyboard layout and at the same time use
Ctrl+Shift+T to re-open closed tabs in web-browser.

[Bug 1729609] Re: xubuntu and kubuntu iso dns

2017-11-03 Thread ubuntushop
During installation I can disable networking in the top bar, and than re-enable
network. This way the installation goes well.
Can this be done in the preseed file?
