[Bug 1745118] Re: Unable to boot with i386 4.13.0-25 / 4.13.0-26 / 4.13.0-31 kernel on Xenial / Artful

2018-02-21 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Node fozzie, onza, onibi (these three nodes are affected by this bug)
can boot with the proposed 4.13.0-36-generic #40~16.04.1-Ubuntu i386
kernel.

It looks like the 4.13.0-32 kernel is still affected by this issue, so I
can't deploy Artful image with MaaS, which uses the 4.13.0-32 kernel, we
can expect the Artful deployment back to normal when -36 has been
released in the future.

[Bug 1750753] [NEW] some keyboard shortcuts not working

2018-02-21 Thread Fi Stach
Public bug reported:

Starting today (21 Feb 2018) some keyboard shortcuts stopped working.

In firefox all shortcuts involving the CTRL key do not work. There is no
reaction. For example CTRL+T does not open a new tab, CTRL+N does not
open a new window, CTRL+F does not initiate the search, CTRL+A does not
select the whole text.

The CTRL key is working fine, because for example in firefox CTRL+mouse
click opens the link in new tab.

In the system itself CTRL+ALT+T does not open a terminal, CTRL+arrow
does not jump word by word (the cursor just blinks in place), CTRL+home
does not jump to beginning of text, CTRL+C/CTRL+V does not work.

CTRL+SHIFT+arrow behaves very strangely. Normally it should select word
by word in text. Now it works sometimes. For example it works after I
start selecting text with SHIFT+arrow first. Or it works depending if I
used arrows first to navigate in the text.

I attach my history.log.

[Bug 1670408] Re: apparmor base abstraction needs backport of rev 3658 to fix several denies (tor, ntp, ...)

2018-02-21 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
- Tested 2.10.95-0ubuntu2.9 from PPA (working as expected
- Added SRU Template
- Uploaded for consideration by the SRU team

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * The base abstraction in xenial misses some ways programs can push
+logs to journald
+
+ * Backport the fix form Artful to:
+1. get rid of the Denies making logs less readable
+2. get users to see the actual log entries will help to unbreak many
+   other cases
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Install one of the affected packages (in a xenial container is enough)
+ * For the case of ntp just install and then run
+systemctl restart ntp
+ * in Dmesg you'll see apparmor Denies like
+  apparmor="DENIED"
+  operation="file_inherit"
+  profile="/usr/sbin/ntpd"
+  name="/run/systemd/journal/stdout"
+ * Each case is different, in this (ntp) case also some log entries are
+missed due to the block
+ * After installing the fixed package there is no Deny anymore and
+programs are able to correctly log.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * The change is in ubuntu as-is since artful and we are only opening up,
+but not limiting the access - so there should be nothing that is denied
+after the update that was not before.
+Vice versa there could be changes due to things now working correcrly,
+but I'd not see that as a regression.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * affects many packages ntp, tor - I even heard examples of mysql.
+But the fix is in apparmor through base abstraction
+
+ ---
+
  Using tor 0.2.9.9-1ubuntu1 with Linux 4.10.0-9-generic on Zesty, tor
  fails to start after installing the tor package. "systemctl status
  tor@default" reports:

  Mar 06 16:04:00 zesty systemd[1]: tor@default.service: Main process exited,
code=killed, status=11/SEGV
  Mar 06 16:04:00 zesty systemd[1]: Failed to start Anonymizing overlay network
for TCP.
  Mar 06 16:04:00 zesty systemd[1]: tor@default.service: Unit entered failed
state.
  Mar 06 16:04:00 zesty systemd[1]: tor@default.service: Failed with result
'signal'.

  There are two AppArmor denials in the kernel log:

  Mar  6 15:53:12 zesty-test kernel: [  102.699647] audit: type=1400
  audit(1488815592.268:35): apparmor="DENIED" operation="file_inherit"
  namespace="root//lxd-zesty_" profile="system_tor"
  name="/run/systemd/journal/stdout" pid=3520 comm="tor"
  requested_mask="wr" denied_mask="wr" fsuid=10 ouid=10

  Mar  6 15:53:12 zesty-test kernel: [  102.702418] audit: type=1400
  audit(1488815592.272:37): apparmor="DENIED" operation="file_mmap"
  namespace="root//lxd-zesty_" profile="system_tor"
  name="/usr/bin/tor" pid=3520 comm="tor" requested_mask="m"
  denied_mask="m" fsuid=10 ouid=10

  Workaround: add the following two lines to /etc/apparmor.d/system_tor:

  /usr/bin/tor m,
  /run/systemd/journal/stdout rw,

  I couldn't remember how to that that profile reloaded, so I rebooted,
  and after the reboot tor does start up successfully. "systemctl
  tor@default" reports it as running.

  I haven't checked to see if only one or other rule is actually required.

  Importance -> High since this bug makes the package unusable in its
  default configuration on Zesty. Since the AppArmor profile comes from
  Debian's 0.2.9.9-1, this should probably be fixed in Debian.

[Bug 1750385] Re: Poor wifi signal with RTL8723BE and 4.13.0-32 kernel

2018-02-21 Thread Doesnt Matter
I installed the linked kernel and the wifi still wasn't working (though
with antenna 1 it didn't even find the wifi in the first place and with
antenna 0 it wouldn't connect (the signal was really really bad though)
so it almost seems as if the problem is even worse than with the 4.13.
Though that could just be coincidence).

[Bug 1750763] [NEW] local-premount/resume script broken, resume fails

2018-02-21 Thread Bas Zoetekouw
Public bug reported:

On bionic, the initramfs pre-mount/resume script contains this call to
/bin/resume:

   /bin/resume ${DEV}

Unfortunately, the ${DEV} variable is never set, causing all resumes to fail,
with this error in initramfs.debug:

  + /scripts/local-premount/resume
  + PREREQ=
  + [ -z UUID=16195e13-9fb3-41b2-9671-fb4e1df1ff93 ]
  + [ ! -e /sys/power/resume ]
  + . /scripts/functions
  + . /scripts/local
  + wait-for-root UUID=16195e13-9fb3-41b2-9671-fb4e1df1ff93 5
  + SWAPTYPE=swsuspend
  + [ -x /bin/plymouth ]
  + plymouth --ping
  + [ -n  ]
  + /bin/resume
  Usage: /bin/resume /dev/ [offset]

This seems a porting bug: the Debian version
(https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/kernel/initramfs-tools.git/tree/scripts
/local-premount/resume) calls local_device_setup(), whioch sets DEV.
This call is missing in the Ubuntu (bionic, 0.130ubuntu2) version.

In my case, a simple

   DEV=$(resolve_device "${resume}")

also solved the issue, but I guess the Debian solution is nicer.

[Bug 1720109] Re: snmpd stop on host stops snmpd on LXD containers

2018-02-21 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
- Ack on the MP (and some more tests)
- Updated the SRU template
- pushed the git ubuntu tag

Thereby uploaded the proposed change for the SRU team to evaluate.

** Description changed:

- If you have ubuntu 16.04 containers running snmpd and you stop the snmpd
- on the LXD host system, it will also shut down all the snmpd instances
- on the containers (but will not restart them if you restart them on the
- LXD host) .. in fact, you even need to go back into the container, stop
- the snmpd before you can start it again.
+ [Impact]
+
+ * Stopping snmpd in Xenial can stop container processes of the same
+binary
+
+ * Fix by matching to the PIDFILE that is already tracked by snmpd
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+  * Set up a host (e.g. a VM being Xenial)
+ * Set up at least one (or more) containers in it
+ * Install and start snmpd in the Host
+ * Install and start snmpd in the containers
+  * you'll now see like:
+ root@ubuntu-vm:/var/log# ps fxaw|grep snmp
+ 29382 ? S 0:00 \_ /usr/sbin/snmpd -Lsd -Lf /dev/null -u snmp -g snmp
+ 29308 ? S 0:00 /usr/sbin/snmpd -Lsd -Lf /dev/null -u snmp -g snmp
+ # One of these is from the container
+ * now on the host stop your service, chances are you stop your guests instead
+root@ubuntu-vm:/var/log# service snmpd stop
+root@ubuntu-vm:/var/log# ps fxaw|grep snmp
+29426 pts/0 S+ 0:00 \_ grep --color=auto snmp
+# 29382 was from a lxd container in this case
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * In case the pidfile stored by the snmpd daemon would be incorrect then
+the stop/restart actions would not match the process and fail to
+stop/restart. We didn't see that in our tests, but that is the
+regression I could think of.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+  * n/a

There's probably some more configuration I need to do to make the system
slow enough. Just booting a bionic ISO in a VM with 1024 MiB of memory
and 1 vCPU does not cause gnome-session to time out for me.

[Bug 1741409] Re: stress smoke test hang with dev test on AWS Xenial kernel

2018-02-21 Thread Stefan Bader
I was booting the same Xenial based HVM guest on the same host (but this
time running Bionic / Xen 4.9). This combination does not crash the
domain when opening HPET. Though the check and code that would do it is
still there. I also found a bug report against xenserver which I believe
is based on the same Xen version as we have in Xenial (4.6.5):
https://bugs.xenserver.org/browse/XSO-809?focusedCommentId=16484=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels
%3Acomment-tabpanel

This and the code say that the crash is done because HPET is set to use
an unsupported interrupt method (edge/level). Since the Linux guest is
the same in both cases, and also the test + crash code, either the
hypervisor or maybe the seabios seem to use a different default.

fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the

your testing we will not be able to proceed.

[Bug 1750826] Re: [SRU] 12.2.3

2018-02-21 Thread James Page
** Description changed:

- TBC
+ [Impact]
+ This release sports bug-fixes and we would like to make sure all of our
+ supported customers have access to these improvements.
+
+ The update contains the following package updates:
+
+* ceph
+
+ [Test Case]
+ The following SRU process was followed:
+
+ https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OpenStackUpdates
+
+ In order to avoid regression of existing consumers, the OpenStack team
+ will run their continuous integration test against the packages that are
+ in -proposed. A successful run of all available tests will be required
+ before the proposed packages can be let into -updates.
+
+ The OpenStack team will be in charge of attaching the output summary of
+ the executed tests. The OpenStack team members will not mark
+ ‘verification-done’ until this has happened.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ In order to mitigate the regression potential, the results of the
+ aforementioned tests are attached to this bug.

the 1-line memleak fix from the description...can you remove the extra
changes from the debdiff so it only contains the memleak patch? Or

[Bug 900384] Re: usbipd requires usbip_common_mod.ko and usbip.ko kernel modules, which are not available in any package

2018-02-21 Thread John Bester
Finally got it! linux-tools-generic needs to commands to be executed after
install:
ln -s /usr/lib/linux-tools/$(uname -r)/usbip /usr/sbin/usbip
ln -s /usr/lib/linux-tools/$(uname -r)/usbipd /usr/sbin/usbipd
By doing this, root will have usbip and usbipd in its executable path

[Bug 1744718] Re: Install/refresh stuck at configure hook (Wekan)

2018-02-21 Thread Jamie Strandboge
The /sys/block access is being denied to your snap, not snap-confine.
Access to /sys/block is provided via the hardware-observe interface.
Does wekan plug hardware-observe? Is it shown as connected via 'snap
interfaces'? If not, what happens if you connect it with 'snap connect'?

As for install/refresh being 'stuck', are (wekan) commands from the
install/refresh hooks still running when it is 'stuck'? If so, it may
not be handling an error condition gracefully.

[Bug 1748323] Re: /usr/lib/chromium-browser/chromium-browser:5:AsLocatedEvent:DispatchMouseEvent:DispatchEvent:non:DispatchEvent

2018-02-21 Thread wdoekes
I've seen a crash with that exact backtrace on Artful just now.

Both on 64.0.3282.140-0ubuntu0.17.10.1 and on
64.0.3282.167-0ubuntu0.17.10.1.

For 140 I did not get a full backtrace because I could not locate the
dbgsym at the time. For 167 the backtrace ends in AsLocatedEvent() <-
DispatchMouseEvent() <- DispatchEvent() <- ...

Reproducing was as simple as:

- open a website where you can scroll
- set mouse scroll-wheel to keep scrolling (I have a button to disable friction)
- scroll
- right click on the webpage
- at that point, the context menu opens and the browser crashes

Many in the office can reproduce (also on Ubuntu 16.04), except for that
one guy who uses Xorg (not Wayland) on 17.10.

Cheers,
Walter

2018-02-21 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Glad that it works now per comment #5

Yes folder permissions are changed on install - they are created first
and then chown'ed.

I didn't get the last issue of manually creating /var/lib/temp as
root:root - that should be unrelated right?

TL;DR - it seems to work as set up by the package and if you can convince the
jenkins setup of the testbed to not mess with it things are good.
Setting invalid per former comments - feel free to continue to discuss here
whatever that temp dir in the last comment was about.

[Bug 1731698] Re: [SRU] Tor 0.2.9.14 and 0.3.0.13

2018-02-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package tor - 0.3.0.13-0ubuntu1~17.10.1

---
tor (0.3.0.13-0ubuntu1~17.10.1) artful; urgency=medium

  [ Peter Palfrader ]
  * Change "AppArmorProfile=system_tor" to AppArmorProfile=-system_tor,
causing all errors while switching to the new apparmor profile to
be ignored. This is not ideal, but for now it's probably the
best solution. Thanks to intrigeri; closes: #880490.

  [ Simon Deziel ]
  * New upstream version: 0.3.0.13 (LP: #1731698)
- Fix a denial of service bug where an attacker could use a
  malformed directory object to cause a Tor instance to pause while
  OpenSSL would try to read a passphrase from the terminal. (Tor
  instances run without a terminal, which is the case for most Tor
  packages, are not impacted.) Fixes bug 24246; bugfix on every
  version of Tor. Also tracked as TROVE-2017-011 and CVE-2017-8821.
  Found by OSS-Fuzz as testcase 6360145429790720.
- Fix a denial of service issue where an attacker could crash a
  directory authority using a malformed router descriptor. Fixes bug
  24245; bugfix on 0.2.9.4-alpha. Also tracked as TROVE-2017-010
  and CVE-2017-8820.
- When checking for replays in the INTRODUCE1 cell data for a
  (legacy) onion service, correctly detect replays in the RSA-
  encrypted part of the cell. We were previously checking for
  replays on the entire cell, but those can be circumvented due to
  the malleability of Tor's legacy hybrid encryption. This fix helps
  prevent a traffic confirmation attack. Fixes bug 24244; bugfix on
  0.2.4.1-alpha. This issue is also tracked as TROVE-2017-009
  and CVE-2017-8819.
- Fix a use-after-free error that could crash v2 Tor onion services
  when they failed to open circuits while expiring introduction
  points. Fixes bug 24313; bugfix on 0.2.7.2-alpha. This issue is
  also tracked as TROVE-2017-013 and CVE-2017-8823.
- When running as a relay, make sure that we never build a path
  through ourselves, even in the case where we have somehow lost the
  version of our descriptor appearing in the consensus. Fixes part
  of bug 21534; bugfix on 0.2.0.1-alpha. This issue is also tracked
  as TROVE-2017-012 and CVE-2017-8822.
- When running as a relay, make sure that we never choose ourselves
  as a guard. Fixes part of bug 21534; bugfix on 0.3.0.1-alpha. This
  issue is also tracked as TROVE-2017-012 and CVE-2017-8822.
  * New upstream version: 0.3.0.12
- Directory authority changes
  * New upstream version: 0.3.0.11
- Fix TROVE-2017-008: Stack disclosure in hidden services logs when
  SafeLogging disabled (CVE-2017-0380)

  * apparmor: use Pix instead of PUx for obfs4proxy, giving us
better confinement of the child process while actually working
with systemd's NoNewPrivileges.  (closes: #867342)

newer in all supported Debian and Ubuntu trees, and binutils
is in the transitive dependency set of build-essential.
Patch by Helmut Grohne. (closes: #873127)

on some system-V systems again. (closes: #869153)

[Bug 1731698] Re: [SRU] Tor 0.2.9.14 and 0.3.0.13

  * apparmor: use Pix instead of PUx for obfs4proxy, giving us
better confinement of the child process while actually working
with systemd's NoNewPrivileges.  (closes: #867342)
  * Do not rely on aa-exec and aa-enabled being in /usr/sbin in the
SysV init script. This change enables apparmor confinement
on some system-V systems again. (closes: #869153)
  * Update apparmor profile: replace CAP_DAC_OVERRIDE with
CAP_DAC_READ_SEARCH to match the systemd capability bounding set
changed with 0.3.0.4-rc-1. This change will allow tor to start
again under apparmor if hidden services are configured.
Patch by intrigeri.  (closes: #862993)
  * Replace CAP_DAC_OVERRIDE with CAP_DAC_READ_SEARCH in systemd's service
capability bounding set. Read access is sufficient for Tor (as root on
startup) to check its onion service directories (see #847598).
  * Change "AppArmorProfile=system_tor" to AppArmorProfile=-system_tor,
causing all errors while switching to the new apparmor profile to
be ignored. This is not ideal, but for now it's probably the
best solution. Thanks to intrigeri; closes: #880490.

  [ Simon Deziel ]
  * Backport 0.2.9.14 to 16.04 (LP: #1731698)
  * debian/rules: stop overriding micro-revision.i

  * Resync with Debian Stretch

tor (0.2.9.14-1) stretch-security; urgency=medium

  * New upstream version, including among others:
- Fix an issue causing DNS to fail on high-bandwidth exit nodes,
  making them nearly unusable. Fixes bugs 21394 and 18580; bugfix on
  0.1.2.2-alpha, which introduced eventdns. Thanks to Dhalgren for
  identifying and finding a workaround to this bug and to Moritz,
  Arthur Edelstein, and Roger for helping to track it down and
  analyze it.
This issue is also tracked
  as TROVE-2017-012 and CVE-2017-8822.

tor (0.2.9.13-1) stretch; urgency=medium

  * New upstream version:
- update directory authority set

tor (0.2.9.12-1) stretch-security; urgency=medium

  * New upstream version:
- CVE-2017-0380 (TROVE-2017-008): Stack disclosure in hidden services logs
  when SafeLogging disabled
- other maintenance and security related fixes, see upstream changelog.

[Bug 1750794] [NEW] eigen3-dev crashes because unstable

2018-02-21 Thread Marco Camurri
Public bug reported:

The official version shipped with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS is an unstable branch
of Eigen 3.3 (i.e. Eigen 3.3-beta1)

This is very inconvenient for a LTS version of Ubuntu, considering that
even the following simple code gives SEGFAULT:

#include
#include

using namespace std;
using namespace Eigen;

int main()
{
Eigen::Vector3d b = Eigen::Vector3d::Random();
Eigen::MatrixXd A = Eigen::MatrixXd::Random(3,3);

std::cout << "The following code crashes from Eigen 3.3-beta1 to Eigen
3.3-RC1" << std::endl;
std::cout << -A*b << std::endl;

return 0;
}

I strongly suggest either to upgrade to the stable branch of 3.3 (i.e.
3.3.4) or the stable branch of the 3.2 (i.e., 3.2.10), for which the
problem doesn't hold.

Note that I'd rather prefer not to install one of these stable versions
myself, because lots of other packages for this release are built on top
on the libeigen3-dev.

If I link those packages against my custom libraries, I would have two
different versions of Eigen to co-exist in the same binary.

[Bug 1750787] Re: enosys test in ubuntu_stress_smoke will failed on Artful

Looks like the enosys stressor was being prematurely killed by the OOM
killer, I'll add some extra wrapping to detect this and try to re-start
the stressor when it gets OOM'd. This does not appear to be a kernel

My config is:

The socket created, but then, unbound can't properly change the owner to
unbound:unbound.

[Bug 659649] Re: package chrony 1.23-7 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2018-02-21 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi Vladim,
I worked on Chrony in 18.04 and it is quite good now IMHO.
Given that 10.04 is EOL for quite some time I'll mark this bug incomplete.

Please if you still have/find an issue in it these days please let us know.
It will unlikely be the same bug, so if you do I'd recommend you open a new bug
for those.

[Bug 1048148] Re: system jobs displays problem when ticking an unticked box

2018-02-21 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

There isn't really enough information here for a developer to confirm
this issue is a bug, or to begin working on it, so I am marking this bug
Incomplete for now.

If you can provide exact steps so that a developer can reproduce the
original problem, then please add them to this bug and change the status
back to New

Actually since 12.04 also is EOL for a while I'll mark invalid for now.
