[Bug 1751769] Re: Some libraries that the gst-libav package relies on are missing.

2018-02-27 Thread Tom Brossman
apt update && apt -f full-upgrade ran like usual and returned "0 to
upgrade, 0 to newly install, 0 to remove and 0 not to upgrade." After a
reboot nothing changed, I still can't play MP4 video.

Is there a way to clear everything out and start over? I looked into
this yesterday but cancelled when I saw the ubuntu-desktop package was
going to be removed (I think the command I tried was "apt-get purge
gstreamer1.0*" or similar).

Thanks again for the troubleshooting help and if there's anything else I
can test please let me know. I would like to understand how I can avoid
this happening again, or recover from it on my own if it does.

Re: [Bug 1751005] Re: libreoffice cannot open a document not within $HOME

2018-02-27 Thread holiday
Very sorry. I was exploring the site and didn't understand the purpose of
the button. I was surprised to find that I had changed the status and was
even more surprised that having changed it I hadn't the authority to change
it back.

[Bug 1751995] Re: package libreoffice-common 1:5.1.6~rc2-0ubuntu1~xenial3 failed to install/upgrade: il sottoprocesso dpkg-deb --fsys-tarfile ha restituito lo stato di errore 2

2018-02-27 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1751716] Re: [Aspire 6930G, Realtek ALC888, Speaker, Internal] Sound is distorted

2018-02-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. I have seen other audio bugs with the same problem -- the state
of the hardware changes on warm boot. But hopefully there is a software
solution...

Can you please look at System Settings > Sound and verify that 'Allow
louder than 100%' is OFF? If it is ON then that would explain the
problem.

Please also try toggling that tick box and playing with the volume
slider to see if you can make the distortion go away.

[Bug 1637797] Re: kernel referred to by /*.old autoremoved

2018-02-27 Thread Marius Gedminas
The nightly unattended-upgrade (which I've configured to Unattended-
Upgrade::Remove-Unused-Dependencies "true";) removed the .old kernel on
two different 14.04 LTS servers last night, leaving both with no backup
kernel at all.

In fact now that I'm paying attention again, I have quite a number of
servers without a /vmlinuz.old.

[Bug 1751223] Re: 3.2.6+dfsg1-1 : pyqt5 not found

2018-02-27 Thread Ghislain Antony Vaillant
FYI, the issue is a combination of upstream now explicitly listing
'pyqt5' in install_requires, and a technicality in the Debian packaging
of pyqt5, see .

[Bug 1751769] Re: Some libraries that the gst-libav package relies on are missing.

2018-02-27 Thread Sebastien Bacher
right, the issue is

"libsodium18:amd64 1.0.16-0ppa1~xenial1

> debsums libsodium18

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libsodium.so.23.1.0 OK"

the package name is supposed to match the soname version, so .23 should
be libsodium23 and not libsodium18, the ppa you are using is buggy

[Bug 1752024] [NEW] patch review of gnome-session

2018-02-27 Thread Tim
Public bug reported:

I have had a look through the current gnome-session packaging and there
are a number of packages which I would like to drop.

22_support_autostart_delay.patch - This was broken while we were running
under upstart user sessions, not sure if it currently works with
systemd, however the few apps that may be using it, should probably be
using systemd --user sessions?

95_dbus_request_shutdown.patch - This predates the dinosaurs, no idea if
anyone is using the dbus API's butthis should all have been superceeded
by logind?

export_env_to_upstart.patch - upstart is no longer in the archive, this
is no longer needed.

13_display_session_properties.patch and 51_remove_session_saving_from_gui.patch
should just be merged into the gnome-session-properties revert patches, if we
decide to keep it.

ignore_gsettings_region.patch - should probably be added in debian,
unless its specific to ubuntu specific patches in accountsservice or so?

[Bug 1752024] Re: patch review of gnome-session

2018-02-27 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks Tim for reviewing those, some comments

* 22_support_autostart_delay.patch,

It's still useful and easy to maintain, let's keep it at least until the
LTS. We don't have systemd user session yet, when we do (likely next
cycle) then we can drop the patch and move from autostart to user jobs.

* 95_dbus_request_shutdown.patch,

unsure where it's used but it's easy to keep so let's avoid surprises by
dropping it just before the LTS and do that next cycle?

* export_env_to_upstart.patch

seems fine to drop

[Bug 1695565] Re: [MIR] chrome-gnome-shell

2018-02-27 Thread Sebastien Bacher
@Mathieu, that's probably something we want to ask the security team
about as well, to know how they feel about the feature? The team
subscription process is a bit backward, we subscribe currently before
knowing if the MIR is going to be validated, would make more sense to
subscribe between the "ack" and the promotion

[Bug 1752026] Re: Ubuntu18.04:POWER9:DD2.2 - Unable to start a KVM guest with default machine type(pseries-bionic) complaining "KVM implementation does not support Transactional Memory, try cap-htm=of

2018-02-27 Thread Andrew Cloke
Hi, the long description in this bug is a little confusing. Some of the
comments appear to suggest that the required support is not yet
upstream.

Could the reporter confirm whether there any current upstream patches
that require backporting urgently (the bug is marked as critical)?

Or whether further upstream work is required before backporting should
begin.

Thanks, Andy.

OK, mystery solved and thanks for the info about libsodium.

I no longer have any audiovisual PPAs I'm using, and I have no clue how
to revert to the correct libsodium18 packages. Any suggestions? I did
use ppa-purge when switching back to the default player, but this hasn't
worked out as intended.
