[Bug 1755640] [NEW] Pitch-Bend Control Wrong On Java MIDI Interface
Public bug reported: When using a Java MIDI interface to connect a MIDI keyboard to either the Java Sound Synthesizer, or to an external MIDI synthesizer (via a hardware MIDI interface), the pitch-bend MIDI message is two half-steps (one note) low (out-of-tune). It appears that the data1 (least-significant byte), and data2 (most- significant byte) values are interpreted as a signed 14-bit number (whose mid-point is 0), rather than an unsigned 14-bit number whose mid- point is X'00', X'40' = X'0200', as specified in the MIDI spec. This results in all further notes played being a whole-step too low, and the pitch-bend values within the range of the MIDI keyboard not being a smooth progression from low to high. Here is information from the MIDI trace: Input IDLE. Input ACTIVE. Forwarded MIDI = E0, 00, 40 (this message generated by the code to compensate for being out-of-tune) Received MIDI = E0, 00, 00 Received MIDI-message: E0 Received MIDI = E0, 00, 01 (should have been E0, 00, 41) Input ACTIVE. Received MIDI-message: E0 Received MIDI = E0, 00, 02 (should have been E0, 00, 42), etc. Received MIDI-message: E0 Received MIDI = E0, 00, 03 Received MIDI-message: E0 Received MIDI = E0, 00, 05 Input IDLE. Input ACTIVE. Forwarded MIDI = E0, 00, 40 Received MIDI = E0, 00, 00 Received MIDI-message: E0 Received MIDI = E0, 00, 01 Input ACTIVE. Received MIDI-message: E0 Received MIDI = E0, 00, 02 Received MIDI-message: E0 Received MIDI = E0, 00, 03 Received MIDI-message: E0 Received MIDI = E0, 00, 05 Input ACTIVE. Received MIDI-message: E0 Received MIDI = E0, 00, 04 Received MIDI-message: E0 Input ACTIVE. Received MIDI = E0, 00, 03 Received MIDI-message: E0 Input ACTIVE. Received MIDI = E0, 00, 02 Received MIDI-message: E0 Input ACTIVE. Received MIDI = E0, 00, 01 Received MIDI-message: E0 Input IDLE. Input ACTIVE. Received MIDI = 90, 3C, 00 Received MIDI-message: 90 Input ACTIVE. Received MIDI = 90, 3C, 53 Received MIDI-message: 90 Input IDLE. Input ACTIVE. Input ACTIVE. Received MIDI-message: E0 Received MIDI = E0, 00, 04 Received MIDI-message: E0 Input ACTIVE. Received MIDI = E0, 00, 03 Received MIDI-message: E0 Input ACTIVE. Received MIDI = E0, 00, 02 Received MIDI-message: E0 Input ACTIVE. Received MIDI = E0, 00, 01 Received MIDI-message: E0 Input IDLE. Input ACTIVE. Received MIDI = 90, 3C, 00 Received MIDI-message: 90 Input ACTIVE. Received MIDI = 90, 3C, 53 Received MIDI-message: 90 Input IDLE. Input ACTIVE. This is different from how it works on Oracle Java 8, where the value for 'no pitch-bend' shows up as E0, 00, 40. It is possible to send the proper pitch-bend values from a Java- implemented MIDI transmitter, but received pitch-bend values (coming in on an input MIDI interface) get transformed to an improper value. This problem has probably been in-existence from the first release of open Java. I tested on an old system having Open Java 7, and the problem was there too. Until I created 'wrapper code' for the Java Sound (Gervill) Synthesizer, I had no way to test this functionality. My expectation is that Open Java will handle pitch-bend messages the same way as Oracle Java does. I am using Lubuntu 17.10, but the problem also occurs on Lubuntu 16.04.4. [Bug 1755640] Re: Pitch-Bend Control Wrong On Java MIDI Interface
The attached JAR-file has online help (click the Help button) to explain how to use it. Unfortunately, Java cannot 'see' ALSA MIDI devices, so you have to use a hardware MIDI interface (such as a USB MIDI keyboard). The code to compensate for the out-of-tune pitch-bend makes things worse, but you can see everything coming in from the MIDI keyboard traced (printed on the terminal). [Bug 1754506] Re: AutoFS does not automatically umount SMB shares
As far as I know, just a few steps are necessary to reproduce this issue: 1. Setup a simple smb server on machine a, like the one I've attached to this report. 2. Create a smb user on machine a: smbpasswd -a $username 3. Enable smb in auto.master on machine b (and set the timeout to something small, e.g., 30 secs): /media/smb/ program:/etc/auto.smb 4. Save the credentials on machine b: echo "username=$username\npassword=$password" > /etc/creds/machineb 5. Try to access the home directory from machine b: user@machineb:~$ ls -lh /media/smb/machineb/$username 6. [Bug 1754888] Re: Menulibre: invalid desktop files detected!
After reviewing the package for vim, it doesn't seem like there's a good way to resolve this issue for the vim source package. [Bug 1208993] Re: Ubuntu slows down and hangs while copying file from/to USB
I experienced this issue twice in the last 24 hours on 16.04. Both times, I waited over an hour after the computer froze before performing a hard reset on the machine. (The expected time for the operation to complete was under 10 minutes.) In my case, the computer goes directly from working as expected to being completely unresponsive, freezing all input (keyboard, mouse, power button) and output (screen, file transfer). The bug does not appear consistently, though. After restarting the computer, performing the same file transfer worked without any issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1208993 Title: Ubuntu slows down and hangs while copying file from/to USB To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1208993/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1755627] [NEW] ibrs/ibpb fixes result in excessive kernel logging
Public bug reported: Since at least kernel 4.4.0-116, every invocation of `sysctl -a` results in kernel logs similar to the following: % sysctl -a &>/dev/null; dmesg -T | tail -8 [Wed Mar 14 00:06:36 2018] sysctl_ibrs_enabled = 0, sysctl_ibpb_enabled = 0 [Wed Mar 14 00:06:36 2018] use_ibrs = 4, use_ibpb = 4 [Wed Mar 14 00:06:36 2018] read cpu 0 ibrs val 0 [Wed Mar 14 00:06:36 2018] read cpu 1 ibrs val 0 [Wed Mar 14 00:06:36 2018] sysctl_ibrs_enabled = 0, sysctl_ibpb_enabled = 0 [Wed Mar 14 00:06:36 2018] use_ibrs = 4, use_ibpb = 4 [Wed Mar 14 00:06:36 2018] read cpu 0 ibrs val 0 [Wed Mar 14 00:06:36 2018] read cpu 1 ibrs val 0 The output varies with the number of CPUs. [Bug 1755629] [NEW] ephemeral-disk-warning yields /mnt 0444 immutable on package update when /mnt is bind-mounted
Public bug reported: Both /etc/init/ephemeral-disk-warning.conf and /usr/sbin/ephemeral-disk- warning contain code to determine where the ephemeral disk is mounted, write a warning file, and set that file read-only (0444) and immutable (+i). In the case where the ephemeral drive is bind-mounted to several places (e.g. using it as a docker backing storage, etc.) an execution of one of these scripts will yield /mnt 0444 and immutable, usually breaking whatever was using the storage space. We had one customer who had a large number of yarn nodes go bad because of this. Output from `journalctl -u ephemeral-disk-warning.service`: -- Logs begin at Thu 2018-03-01 00:08:50 UTC, end at Tue 2018-03-13 22:33:22 UTC. -- Mar 01 00:09:14 wn103-limitl systemd[1]: Starting Write warning to Azure ephemeral disk... Which was right after the walinuxagent package was updated to 2.2.21+really2.2.20-0ubuntu1~16.04.1 I was able to repro the problematic lines on my dev box, where I have two directories bind-mounted to my home dir: $ dev_resource=$(readlink -f /dev/disk/azure/resource-part1) $ dev_resource_mp=$(awk '$1==R {print$2}' "R=${dev_resource}" /proc/mounts) $ echo $dev_resource_mp /mnt /home/paulmey/packer_work /home/paulmey/packer_cache $ cat /proc/mounts |grep sdb1 /dev/sdb1 /mnt ext4 rw,relatime, data=ordered 0 0 /dev/sdb1 /home/paulmey/packer_work ext4 rw,relatime, data=ordered 0 0 /dev/sdb1 /home/paulmey/packer_cache ext4 rw,relatime, data=ordered 0 0 It looks like this script needs to be more specific in determining the mountpoint, or maybe even make its own temporary mount point for the ephemeral drive, since /proc/mount does not indicate which mounts are bind mounts (and what the source directory for that bind mount was). It looks like LP#1626318 is also an example of this bug. ** Affects: walinuxagent (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1755629 Title: ephemeral-disk-warning yields /mnt 0444 immutable on package update when /mnt is bind-mounted To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/walinuxagent/+bug/1755629/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1746088] Re: [Ubuntu 16.04.4] Unable to analyze the vmcore generated by kdump on 4.13.0-26-generic kernel
@breno re: point release meaning vs updates Please note point releases refer to installation media only, which is a consistent snapshot of cloud images, container images, server ISO, d-i, etc. Built from xenial-updates & xenial-security pockets as published at the time of the respin. xenial-updates/-security themselves are a moving target. It's impossible to ship something in "16.04.2" today, as there is no package archive that refers to "16.04.2". One simply continuously ships updates in xenial-updates. Thus the point of point-releases installation media, is to have installers available with a newer kernel which hopefully supports more hardware, and newer packages making post-install security/updates upgrades quicker & smaller, as one does not need to catch up 2 years+ of updates, just a few weeks of updates. This issue does not appear to impact the installation media / installation success, therefore it is not critical to ship in installation media as respun for a point release. Hence it is targetted to ship simply as any other SRU in xenial-updates. TLP (for example) says that tp-smapi can't load by kernel and is "inactive". I tried different tips from forums and compiled the actual tp-smapi 0.42 too - but all with the same effect: tp-smapi(-dkms) is able to install und is compiled right, modules are found by "modinfo" but the modul is not loading with Kernel during startup! Tried to load it with terminal command but there is coming a warning about an exec-format-error. So if i install and compile tp-smapi with older 4.4.0-xxx-Kernels, there is no error message and the tp-smapi-module is loaded and active. tested on: - Ubuntu 14.04, Linux Mint 17.3, MATE, 64bit, Kernel 4.4.0-116 (LTS) - Could it be an incompability with the newest Spectre/Meltdown-Patches in Kernel(s)? I heard about a lot of work and changes because of this. So i hope tp-smapi (or the Kernel) could be fixed and running stable with next Kernel-or tp-smapi-upgrade. Thank's for caring! Also i reported this to the tp-smapi-side: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tp-smapi/+bug/1755301 ** Affects: linux-lts-xenial (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: - Bug Description: - I recognized the last days that tp-smapi 0.41-1 can't load by Kernel 4.4.0-116, while with all 4.4.0-xxx-Kernels before it gives no problems.
